Good to know you're not one of those old people who're obsessed with braking at every corner / passing vehicle / pedestrian / tree / atmosphere. I wish everyone drove like you do!
Driving on the left side kinda threw me off....very different for me. I can say one thing, you may be an older gentleman, but you sure don't drive like an old man! I wish more elderly people here in the U.S. drove like you do. I am a truck driver by trade, so I do this professionally. And I must say, you drive better than most. Enjoyed the ride. Maybe someday, I would love to come over, and have a ride for real, and u can show me around. I couldn't imagine a better guide.
you are so right about boring car rides with automatics & wait till you turn on cruise control. That's really why loud stereo's are so popilar in cars now ad days.
I literally panicked for the first 30 seconds watching it waiting for an accident because we drive on the right side in the US. I don’t know if I could rewire my brain to drive on the left ir not. Lol. Lovely countryside though!!
Nice video Peter. I loved what you said about those drivers who ride their brakes. They are frustrating. Your driving philosophy is very much the same as mine.
that was great! I felt so much at home :) now since I live in Poland when I visit my grandma in Northamps she takes me on trips like that to show me the local changes and landscapes. thank you!!
I know it has been said before but, you're driving on the wrong side of the road! #LOL My mom drives a Prius. You pronounce it differently. Here in the US, we say it like "Preeus"
your videos constantly amaze me and entertain me i always watch them and will continue to do so. you are a true gent and you have my attention always. thankyou and continue to post your awesome videos sir.
@DarkCityDave No never had a Cooper, the only mini i ever had was a basic tin box, but my last car was a Mercedes SLK so the Prius is no where near as much fun.
I kept swerving my head and leaning a bit with the video... and, yes, being another right side of the road driver, I tended to tense up when turning corners. Hee hee... grand fun! Lovely country. I'd rather have a motorcycle on those roads, though...
That is the kind of trip i would like to take in the DAYTIME. You won't catch me doing that at night! Good trip Peter! Now maybe you can plant some banana peppers. Nice ride!
Nice drive Peter and it sounds like you've passed your Advanced Driving Test at sometime - you certainly used a lot of techniques I was taught before I took my ADT. Wish I encountered more drivers like you. Thanks.
@dclews Yes I did pass my advanced driving test when I reached 70 year old and like you would encourage all drivers to do it. My grandson has taken my advice and passed his for motorcycles and it is therefore not only for the elderly.
I took this trip with you for the third time now - it's such a nice video :-)! The first time, I was all like "nerves!!", because, let's face it: Being indoctrinated with driving on the right side of the street my whole life, I have a hard time adjusting to that constant "ride on the passing lane" the British do, haha! Had i been driving, we 'd have rammed the white lorry that came at us on that one left turn, by the way.
I love the landscape, but the roads are really VERY narrow at places :-O!
The Prius is a battery assisted petrol powered car. The job of the battery and electric motors is to assist acceleration and recover energy when decelerating. This means when you use the brake at speed the real brakes do nothing - the electric motors regenerate into the battery. This "B gear" is only for long descents with the battery full. My advice - to get the best fuel economy ride the brakes like "Those People" do :-)
I haven't explained that very well. Perhaps "ride the brakes" is OTT - just drive in "D" and slow with brakes only unless you are on a long descent and you filled the battery already then use "B". This site explains it better: answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070704084852AAKU3fC. This web site does a good job explaining how to drive a Prius (boringly) to get the best fuel economy: kbtoyota.com/priusmileage.html. Sorry I'm being a nerdy Prius Geek. :-(
Haha! By halfway through this drive, you were pushing the little beast pretty hard, and it seemed like it was responding rather snappily. It was fun riding with you, and enjoying the countryside.
You speed demon you! Haha. You do it with appropriate caution too, so bravo. Do you ever feel you want to get behind a motorcycle again? With proper speed of course. :)
Wonderful countryside. It reminds me of my days in upstate New York outside of Manhattan. Thank you Peter.
Nice video. Being form the US is is weird to me to watch the video since you guy drive on the left side. But I am sure it might seem weird if you were over here too. Thanks for sharing the video
The B feature stands for "Brake." What it does is it engages a generator when your foot is not on the accelerator. It slows you down and behaves like an engine brake, but while it does that it takes your kinetic energy and charges your battery with it. It's supposed to be a fuel saving feature. I drove one of those cars as a taxi for a while, and just kept it in B mode all the time...
@fehquig Thank you for that information. I thought that the energy went to the battery ever time that you went into over-run when your foot was off the accelerator and also when using the brakes a kinetic energy recycle system but without engaging that B position there was no engine braking. There is a menue if you activate the screen to see diagrams of where the energy is going but why would you want to take your eyes off the road to look. :)
hey peter you are a wonderful driver! was suprised to hear the prius scream at some points. beautiful scenery too.. would wish to ride my bike on such a beautiful road
You are so awesome with technology! Gah! I have a grandmother about 20 years younger than you, and she can't even answer her mobile phone. Sir, you are an inspiration. Thankyou for uploading! :D
I find it very strange that your gasoline(petrol as you call it in the UK) is purchased by the liter and yet your speed is measured in miles per hour. I had always assumed that the UK used the metric system for everything as is done in Canada. So, is an automobile's mileage measured in miles per liter or do you convert it to miles per gallon?? Oh, nice informative video by the way.
@jonnyrobinson1 yes we have a strange mixture of weights and measures but the mileage of a car is quoted in miles per gallon.Did you know that it costs 140pence per litre here which is about £7 per gallon so all manufacturers try to boast about the economy of their particular makes but to get what they might claim would mean driving it like an invalid carriage. No fun at all.
Hello Grandad! Such a beautiful drive and so nice and green. I shall have to share this with my Mom as she is missing home since watching the Royal wedding and she would enjoy this so much!
as beautiful as the countryside was, i felt incredibly uneasy watching this video ... i guess that's just the drive-on-the-other-side-of-the-road-american in me ;)
That was fun Peter! You're a bit of 'lead foot' but I like that about you! :-) Oh and what about the sign that said Slow on the road? I think you picked up speed! lol Those roads would be fun on a motorcycle for sure! Thanks again for the tour, your camera works well.
Sometimes I worry about driving with people, since they don't really know what they're doing. I get the impression that I'd worry about driving with you mostly because you *do*! @geriatric1927 Or, you can do the commentary without muting the video :D

@geriatric1927 , it is far better this ( the original) way! Your are still good to hear.
And you take me on the trip realistic, naration from bhind the computer would spoil it.
By the way, I loved every minute of your drive, I even didn't get carsick, you are a good driver.
Strange that they put word's on the road itself. Every time the same one.
I'm not really good with the englisch language, so can you help me:
What does that word "SLOW" mean? ;-)
Thanks Hans
