To everyone who said he failed...THANK U! I posted my own homemade video of the performance (as seen on my channel) and I said he "blows" the performance. U can even here the fans in the stands boo him hardcore, yet people are telling me on comments that it wasn't bad at all and that's how he was supposed to sing it. I love Stevens signature scream...but not during the fucking National Anthem! I thought it was disrespectful and not how it should be sang AT ALL! He failed it...badly!
I like Steven, but he fucked this one up. If he was going to sing this song he should have done it in a rock style using a rock music track behind him, not acapella and singing traditionally. That is where he made his mistake. He is not a traditional singer he is a rock star. Next time Steven tell your agent you don't want to sing a song like this if they ask you to sing again.
I give him a 8 out of 10 because of effort hes a legend of rock and people should be glad he took the time to sing it i mean the guys is what almost 80 years old? people dont sound that great when they get older people just need something to cry about...ps madonna is at halftime at the super bowl cant wait to hear about that..
Not an Aerosmith fan per se...but he did fine. Not the best ever, far from the worst. He sang it pretty much like I would have expected given his voice. Anyone who thinks it's easy - give it a shot and post your videos. Then try doing it at 63 and see how you do. Easy to sit home and judge rather than doing something.
i think he totally nailed it..i will admit there were a few off-notes that didnt quite hit the mark,,but as a singer,,he was dealing with being outside in january singing a capella ,,i mean those are HARDLY favorable conditions for ANY singer,,,he is Steven Tyler,,a rock singer,,that is what he sounds like all the time,,if you dont want to hear him sing it like that, dont invite him to sing it..what did you expect,,,Celine Dion?
I really appreciate your video buddy .....point blank period......I thought you was gone be on some other type time , but you is refreshing .......and ah yeah ........ he nailed it.....I am about to listen to it for the second time and probably two more times before I head out to work today...thanks
I'm sure Steven Tyler is embarrassed about this performance.
I love Steven Tyler's music. He and Aerosmith are great but let's be honest here..............This was a pretty crappy performance..............Some of those notes he hit during the end my God..........As a judge on Idol you see he and the other judges grimacing when some bad auditions hit real sour notes.........That's what this performance was.
For fans to defend his singing just for the sake of defending it is ridiculous.
I think he nailed it. Everyone expects the Anthem that the Anthem has to be sung in a certain way. This is Steven Tyler. A ROCKSTAR!!! He sang it in his own style. His voice doesn't even crack until he purposely does it. Yeah. I think he did a good job.
Steven Tyler has his own style and flavor and even if ppl think he cannot sing they need to realize that he is a multi-millionaire off of....yeah you guessed it SINGING!! He sang it like he does every other song.
I enjoyed Tyler in the 70's and his voice was mediocre then - this was just brutal, and he took the liberty of changing a few key words. Fail. What ever happened to good singers - not famous old wash ups - but really good singers? Why not hire talent and leave the antiques at home. Just saying.
They didn't hire him for his style, they hired him because he is a Boston Area Native and because he is current. It's too bad that the AFC game wasn't on FOX, they could have had even more publicity for the AI episode that followed the NFC game, one hour later!
He nailed it. Anybody that gets to sing the National Anthem is an honor to have them sing it!!! Who cares if he sounded off key a little bit!!! He nailed it. Man that's a hard song to sing, and I don't think he did bad I mean he was at his prime 20-25 yrs ago so I don't think anyone is giving him the respect he deserves for going out and giving his all after all these years of entertaining America. Erase the Hate... Love Your Neighbor.... these things are commanded of us by an unknown force and you should obey or else....

I think he nailed it!!! He is one of the most talented singers ever. He's been singing for over 40 years, had throat surgery, fallen off the stage multiple times, done 20 million dollars worth of drugs, etc. The fact that he's still alive is a miracle, nevermind the fact that he can still sing SOO perfectly. And anyone who says it was bad, I'd like to see you have the balls to stand up in front of that crowd and belt out the national anthem better. Still love Steven and he did great <3
Steven TYLER - well likely he wouldn't have made it to Hollywood or gotten a golden ticket. Still he was on key (most of the time) and like everyone else commented he was an old Rock performer singing one of the hardest songs to sing on a bitterly cold day. It wasn't awesome but to a guy that has entertained us thru almost 5 decades I see no reason to hate. It did occur to me at one point though..... the dude looked like a lady :)
alright I say shut up all you haters. Why don't you try singing the National Anthem in front of a bajillion people. It's one of the hardest songs there is to sing, the acoustics and feedback were probably awful and i personally think he did good. I agree. If you don't want it to sound like Steven Tyler, don't hire Steven Tyler to sing it!
@gdoddmeta Regardless of how you feel concerning this matter, that was very disrespectful and incredibly rude. I'm sure your parents raised you much better than that if at all. And in regards to Steven Tyler, honestly, it's not worth commenting on. It wasn't worthwhile and sounded precisely like what it was: An elderly man trying to hold onto his more glorious days. Given, he's still pretty damn famous but those drugs did a number on his vocal chords lol.
I love Steven Tyler! Who cares what his voice sounds like! Steven Tyler is not the only famous singer to mess up the National Anthem! I thought he nailed it! Besides this is America everyone sings the Anthem differently! What would you say if a 5 year old sung the Anthem and messed it up! I mean seriously!
I think he nailed it. He is a rock star and his legendary voice as a rock star nailed it. not sure what the public is knocking him for? He messed up ONE word from my observation... am I missing something here? As for his pitch... I guess I never knew him to be 100% on key as his voice is just different...
Hey Point- He could have learned the words at the very damn least...the performance as far as voice is concerned???-we usually hear him with a band so it kinda covers his screw ups and there is editing. But...get this,"he was a bit pitchy u know and there were a few notes that really just didn't do it for me man. He needs more practice-work hard and come back next year!" BB
Watch ALL the You Tube versions of Steven Tyler singing the anthem at Hockey, baseball and Race Car events FIRST. Then rate the man for doing exactly what he has done consistently with the song for years. No one ramped up, booed or disrespected him then.. why now? He's a Rock legend being a Rock legend changing up a few words and using his style to sing it. Its not like the Patriots can say they never heard him sing it before... ROCK ON STEVEN! I say he nailed the song the way he does it.
Funny how people CAN'T say it was bad simply because they like Aerosmith. It's OK to still love the guy/band and be honest enough to yourself to admit that this clearly was a pretty bad performance. It's Tyler, so obviously he can get away with this. But if it's some unknown up-and-comer, that person would get killed online with musings and never sing again in their lives! lol
I mean he's obviously a legend and all that, but to say it wasn't bad is a stretch. It was pretty damn rough! lol...
And seriously, he has to be on something. Like, 100%. Even prescription drugs, but something. It's almost as if 10 seconds into the song he's thinking to himself, 'Why did I agree to this again?! Disaster, Steven. Disaster. Youtube. Internet.'
@DelGriffith10 Can't be all that Baaaad if he keeps getting asked to sing it that way for so many years... word changes and all He keeps getting asked to come out and sing it.
@BMoney1980sBaby In no way, shape, or form did he mess up the words. If you yourself knew the words you would know that. The criticism isn't for the words being forgotten it's the way he sang it. Nice try though... and the drunk or high part... he may be permafried from the years and years that he was a legit rock star, but who are you to judge a legend. Drunk or high, he still has more talent in his left pinky than the rappers who sing about being "high" in all their songs...
@doms132 fuck u dick I was stating my opinion the old mutha fucker fucked the words up unless he has his on remix to the anthem he fucked up the words so fuck what u say bitch Im just statin my opion im not judging anyone leave me the fuck alone bitch!
@BMoney1980sBaby I can tell by your defensive reply that your very ignorant. So let's just leave it at that. Your a moron, and most likely "very likely", a complete failure in your life... whether financially, socially, ethically, or all paramaters.... I'm going to lean toward all facets. In closing, please... sell your computer, lord knows you probably need to money. I assure you in doing so, the world will be a better place...free from your profound ignorance and general doucheness. Thanks
@doms132 I am blessed and Highly Favored by my lord and savior Jesus Christ! I can say what I feel out of my mouth at any time! so you can steriotype me all you want but I promise I have more than a man could want and I could care less what you have to say about me but just remember I AM BLESSED! I can state my opinion any time I feel and if you dont like what I say then mind your business you started this mess I just said how I feel and you should respect me for being bold if not then bounce!
@doms132 fuck u dick I was stating my opinion the old mutha fucker fucked the words up unless he has his on remix to the anthem he fucked up the words so fuck what u say bitch Im just statin my opion im not judging anyone leave me the fuck alone bitch!
Steve Tyler need i say more!! the man rocks my soul and he did great!!!! If there are haters its because they don't know how to listen to a persons real and honest voice.
I think he was fabulous! He always is.....This was not.... by far.. the first time he sang "The National Anthem." He has done much better, but he was no Roseanne. I think he nailed it.
He messed up on the words. Flat out, pure and simple. If It was somebody unknown, I would give them some leniency for being nervous; but he's a rock legend and should have known the lyrics. I LOVE Steven Tyler, and I don't mind the way he sang it; but he should have known the words.
Steven Tyler! I think that it's totally bold for him to get out there and sing the National Athem. It isn't like he & everyone else for that matter don't know that he has a "screaming" voice not a "singing" voice. Good for him. & as far as judging people in a singing competition. He's a star so he completely is able to judge star potential, and just because his particular method of singing isn't traditional doesn't mean that he doesn't know&understand the traditional foundation of singing.
Steven Tyler did a pretty good job on the National Anthem for a 64 yr old, been there done that, rock star. He in no way butchered it, as so many people are claiming. It may not have been the powerful smooth voice of the Whitney version or as harmonious as some of "The Cactus Cuties" versions but at least he didn't desecrate the Anthem like R.Kelly did, singing his own interpretation and encouraging people to dance around while he sang it, or render it flat out intolerable like Rosanne Barr.
You cannot seperate his style from the lyrics! Aerosmith rocked,, but that was many years ago, Tyler sucked and has no business trying to perform a wonderful piece if he cannot remember the lyrics....no he did not nail the song..as someone said, keep the washed out rock stars away from the National Anthem! Rate this one with Roseanne.
If you are asking if he nailed it in terms of his vocal flavoring of the song then I believe he nailed it because if you know anything about Steven Tyler and the music of Aerosmith, that is the way the man sings. His voice is his voice and you either like it or you don't; like Janis Joplin, his unique sound cannot be matched. Whoever invited Steven Tyler to perform at the game most certainly knew his vocal style! If you are talking about his flubbing the lyrics then he failed it.
He nailed it like only he could do! and the rest of you that are talking shit you do not know what the hell you are talking about! you obviously do not have good taste in music!
I think if Steven Tyler wasn't a rock star and tried to audition for American Idol, he wouldn't make it past the first audition. If they had an audition for just anyone to sing the National Anthem, he wouldn't make it either. But I have to say, he wasn't off tune. That is his normal voice and he was being himself. Just not everyone appreciates his music or the way he sounds. But oddly enough, he wasn't off tune and he didn't forget the words.
He tried his best and did a lousy job. The crowd should show more respect for the national anthem. NFL should stop letting washed up pop stars ruin our great national anthem on live tv. It makes US look bad as a nation and hurts American morale. The NFL and other sports bodies should do a better job choosing vocalists to sing the anthem.
If it was michael (rip) bryan mcknight or hell even katie perry id expect some super classy voice singing. getting him up there was like telling the lead singer of the rolling stones to do it.
He nailed and failed it. He did mess up one word in the anthem. "The bombs bursting in air.." He sang "AS bombs bursting in air".. At least he didn't stretch it out like some singers do.
what do you expect? its steven from aerosmith folks. if you take out the loud guitars and drums thats exactly what result you will get. At least he remembered ALL the words unlike christina lol. and at least he definitely was way more digestible on the ears than rosanne barr. Tyler isnt classical. hes rock. And for the record this is coming from a R&b & hip hop fan first and i have to say he did his job for the kind of artist he is.
His version of the National Anthem was quintessential Steven Tyler. You can't expect him to get up there and sing like Garth Brooks, Usher, or Michael Bolton, he's Steven Tyler and we love him for it. The words were correct, the notes were all there and he did not grab himself inappropriately. Rock On Steven Tyler!
He nailed it. As so many others have said, he sang as he does for Aerosmith, and put a lot of respect for the song, the meaning, and the occasion into it. He didn't miss a note, hit every one dead center, and yes, sometimes his higher notes screech a bit but he still gets them. He's one of the finest singers in rock, and I'm sure The Patriots knew his style, even if the critics obviously never heard him before.
If you know Steven Tyler's music and voice then you know thats his way and his style.. I didnt expect anything different.. He didnt screw up or mess up on the words or disrespect anyone. Steven Tyler is a Rocker. He Nailed It...
I think he did great! As Baiza187 said, he is a rocker and thats how rockers sound..Do you expect him to sing it as an opera star would or something??? Lets see just how do you think Alice Cooper or Ozzy Ozbourne would sound singing it?
He did great. If people actually listend to good music, they'd know that hes a rock legend. Thats how he sings, like a rocker. If you expected him to sing like a R&B star or somethin, then you are dumb.
keep the likes/ dislikes even. KEEP THEM EVEN!!!

TheCpham1010 1 month ago
Sorry forgot to add that he does have alot more $ than me tho-so I can laugh and poke at him but in the end whose really laughin'.

OMyrtleSue 1 month ago
he nailed it!

MamaKin66SKB 1 month ago
Funny how people CAN'T say it was bad simply because they like Aerosmith. It's OK to still love the guy/band and be honest enough to yourself to admit that this clearly was a pretty bad performance. It's Tyler, so obviously he can get away with this. But if it's some unknown up-and-comer, that person would get killed online with musings and never sing again in their lives! lol
DelGriffith10 1 month ago
I mean he's obviously a legend and all that, but to say it wasn't bad is a stretch. It was pretty damn rough! lol...
And seriously, he has to be on something. Like, 100%. Even prescription drugs, but something. It's almost as if 10 seconds into the song he's thinking to himself, 'Why did I agree to this again?! Disaster, Steven. Disaster. Youtube. Internet.'
DelGriffith10 1 month ago
@DelGriffith10 Can't be all that Baaaad if he keeps getting asked to sing it that way for so many years... word changes and all He keeps getting asked to come out and sing it.

He fucked up the words period I personally thought he was drunk or high!
BMoney1980sBaby 1 month ago
@BMoney1980sBaby In no way, shape, or form did he mess up the words. If you yourself knew the words you would know that. The criticism isn't for the words being forgotten it's the way he sang it. Nice try though... and the drunk or high part... he may be permafried from the years and years that he was a legit rock star, but who are you to judge a legend. Drunk or high, he still has more talent in his left pinky than the rappers who sing about being "high" in all their songs...

He messed up on the words. Flat out, pure and simple. If It was somebody unknown, I would give them some leniency for being nervous; but he's a rock legend and should have known the lyrics. I LOVE Steven Tyler, and I don't mind the way he sang it; but he should have known the words.
punkybris51 1 month ago

TheGodamndevil 1 month ago
You cannot seperate his style from the lyrics! Aerosmith rocked,, but that was many years ago, Tyler sucked and has no business trying to perform a wonderful piece if he cannot remember the lyrics....no he did not nail the song..as someone said, keep the washed out rock stars away from the National Anthem! Rate this one with Roseanne.
profnod 1 month ago
Only thing he nailed was about 5 handles.
chitsweire 1 month ago
If you are asking if he nailed it in terms of his vocal flavoring of the song then I believe he nailed it because if you know anything about Steven Tyler and the music of Aerosmith, that is the way the man sings. His voice is his voice and you either like it or you don't; like Janis Joplin, his unique sound cannot be matched. Whoever invited Steven Tyler to perform at the game most certainly knew his vocal style! If you are talking about his flubbing the lyrics then he failed it.
sleepyshepherd 1 month ago
He nailed it. No question.
mlillianlilnails2010 1 month ago
Yeah, he rates the performances of singers on AI. But those little children don't have 40 years of rock legend behind them. Who cares...

He nailed it like only he could do! and the rest of you that are talking shit you do not know what the hell you are talking about! you obviously do not have good taste in music!
jen41973 1 month ago
I think if Steven Tyler wasn't a rock star and tried to audition for American Idol, he wouldn't make it past the first audition. If they had an audition for just anyone to sing the National Anthem, he wouldn't make it either. But I have to say, he wasn't off tune. That is his normal voice and he was being himself. Just not everyone appreciates his music or the way he sounds. But oddly enough, he wasn't off tune and he didn't forget the words.
Truthrevealed21 1 month ago
At least he actually remembered the lyrics unlike most people these days ! He nailed it for me!
jasonthakid 1 month ago
He tried his best and did a lousy job. The crowd should show more respect for the national anthem. NFL should stop letting washed up pop stars ruin our great national anthem on live tv. It makes US look bad as a nation and hurts American morale. The NFL and other sports bodies should do a better job choosing vocalists to sing the anthem.

If it was michael (rip) bryan mcknight or hell even katie perry id expect some super classy voice singing. getting him up there was like telling the lead singer of the rolling stones to do it.
xDTHECHEMISTx 1 month ago
He nailed and failed it. He did mess up one word in the anthem. "The bombs bursting in air.." He sang "AS bombs bursting in air".. At least he didn't stretch it out like some singers do.

what do you expect? its steven from aerosmith folks. if you take out the loud guitars and drums thats exactly what result you will get. At least he remembered ALL the words unlike christina lol. and at least he definitely was way more digestible on the ears than rosanne barr. Tyler isnt classical. hes rock. And for the record this is coming from a R&b & hip hop fan first and i have to say he did his job for the kind of artist he is.
xDTHECHEMISTx 1 month ago
For the people that said he nailed it go back and listen to the words. He most definitely failed it. SMH!!!!
ktube84 1 month ago
nailed it, for his age and way he sang he was good, messed up a little but what do you expect? can you sing like that in front of everyone
dionysusanton 1 month ago
