I can't stand the test, because in theory everything is a hazard for example signs, speed signs, other road users, road condition, one way streets.
I also noticed that they are all clumped on one second intervals, I think that once a hazard is identified it is one hazard whether it is a single or multiple events. It's a scam to make more cash, I would say 90% pass the question stage but fail on the HPT, you have no choose but resit the exam and spend more money, it's just pathetic
i totally agree, i have a hazard perception test app thing on my phone, i click when i see a hazard developing, yet i get a score of like 0 out of 5 at the end, i press the review button and it plays the clip and circles the hazard, yet its the one i clicked for, by the sounds of things you have to click exactly when the computer is programmed to allow you to recieve the point, not really when the hazard develops...
I have a test booked next week, I've always found doing the Hazard part in practice hard to do. Got a MacBook but the DVD with the videos and questions on only work with a PC, which sucks as well.
Basicly, you click when you see a developing hazard, for example a person on a bicycle infront of your vehicle positioned to the left, riding next to the pavement. Then as soon as you see him/her give any warning of changing direction (looking over shoulder etc, or turning without looking) you click again, because that's the hazard. Reacting to this fast will give maximum points (5).
just passed this today - but youre right it is far too ambiguous - plus the intro at the start was vague as it said something about clicking when you spot a developing hazard and clicking again if it changes or develops. pardon? so i double click? how are you defining a change? i.e. if a car indicates to turn off the road, you click as you may have to slow down, but if it hasnt made the turn by the time you get there and you have to stop, is that a change or is it part of the same hazard? daft.
Yep, I've been driving for a few years and I'm getting them way too early. I like your idea Mr poster of stopping the video or maybe even having to analise a screen shot.
@rajufromlondon same i did my theory today i got 47 in the questions and was 4 points of the hazzard perseption test its bullshit and a money making scam
Did my Theory test just yesterday. I passed the multiple choise but failed on the Hazard Perception. I was trying not to get too paranoid, but ended up scoring 42 (44 being a passing mark). I saw three hazards happening at once, yet I scored 0. I was so distressed that I hardly ate anything.
what gets me is that if you tested the whole nation with this test, only ten percent of the nation would be passed and able to drive, what gives my, say, uncle, the right to be on the road the same as me, when all he did was get in a car and drive 200 yards to pass his test in the early 80s.
iv actually seen with my own eyes, some one not know how to change gear properly, but they own a licence because they passed in the iron age lol AND they have lower car insurance.
It's so stupid! If a pedestrian clearly shows no intention to cross the road, and they are lesiurely strolling to a bus stop, I feel no need to label them as a hazard. I've just booked my theory for a few weeks time and I hope I master this stupid half of the test by then.
Personally I think this test is retarded as well because seeing a hazard on a computer and driving and seeing the hazard for yourself is two completely different things, its basically saying every single thing in the video clip as svengalie was saying, because of this retarded part of the test i failed after a week of waking up practising the theory test before going to sleep practising the theory test, it went to waste alittle bit because of the fact is i got 43 in the theory when top is 49.
@doga201 i got that aswell i got my theory test questions 100 % but the hazard perception test is rubbish its nothing like what its like when your driving :D
I had my 1st thoery test today, i was 6 point's off from completing it, i got 47/50 on the first part but failed the hazard perception which i'm pissed off with cos ive put a lot of time in revisin plus ive wasted 30.00 pound, i'm trying to figure what i did wrong cos i noticed virtually all hazards....
@pemberton1986 47/50 in multi choice and 38/75 in hazard perception? That's exactly the same score as I just got today, I'm livid but I'm glad I'm not the only one x
Yeh and i hardly clicked at all during the double hazard one, maybe 8/9/10 times throughout THE WHOLE DURATION, i.e. not in bursts/constant clicking throughout, i clicked once for the potential hazards, and then maybe a couple of time when i saw them (to ensure i got a click in the scoring zone) and it said id tried to cheat and gave me 0. 10 fucking points down the drain! You are quite right in saying you are between a rock and a hard place, never mind i got 45 out of 75, 44 is a pass, phew lol
The trick is to click about three times if you see a hazard to gurantee you get the mark. Pointless to be honest as surely your actual driving test is where you will show examiners your hazard perception abilities.
I've passed this test once before, now as my certificate has run out I have to take it again and now I remember how bloody stupid it is! I have no idea how I passed it last time, there's no logic to it whatsoever. It was sheer fluke, and now I have to do that again and hope for the best. I spent a week straight practising two years ago and could not work it, and things haven't changed. Ridiculous.
well said and done, hazards are everywhere, yet if you click too much, you fail, if you click too early, you don't score anything. Retarded? yeah i think so...
Spotting a hazard to early! If I see a vehicle waiting to pull out from a side junction somewhere ahead then that is not necessarily a hazard until I am close enough for it to become one. Once I am close enough it may become a potential hazard. If the car begins to move out into the main road when I am close enough then it is a developing hazard. So what is close enough, I have time to slow down for a potential hazard and time to stop for a developing hazard!
The test is primarily aimed at young drivers as they have the highest probability of having an accident. To older drivers who have to sit the test it is considered an unnecessary inconvenience, especially if they have already been driving for some time. I notice that most of the people moaning are those who have failed the test.
Like anything the test will probably evolve subject to feedback. The biggest problem that people who fail this type of test is they don't spend enough time understanding what is required before they sit it. If you think that response time is a problem then practice with a more relaxed attitude. Take some time to appreciate what constitutes the different types of hazard. If you see somebody walking towards you that is a potential hazard. If they turn towards the road that is a developing hazard.
Im having the same problem with the hazard perception part, took it yesterday for the 1st time and got 50/50 on the Multiple question part but got 40/75 because i was clicking too quickly in the mock tests at home and corrected this by multiple clicking. Obviously i didnt want to do that in the real thing and score 0 for cheating so i held back and what happens ? .....i fail because i spot them too quickly ? what a load of bull ....i hope they change this thing and not for my sake but everyones!
yeah i have to do my bike test , same problem i think driving trucks and cars for 30 years with no accidents or convictions plus full no claims should equate to just having to refresh the q and a part of the theory test point 2 i ve been in 2 bumps as a passenger and both were rear end shunts from new drivers some people remember numbers and can get the stopping distances every time ..me i forget them but the difference is i know them in practice, some people think a 40 foot is 40 inches
I think if I can go 200km/h down the highway in moderate to high traffic, weaving thru all 4 lanes while racing another car and not crash I should be exempt from having to do this shithouse test.
Actually, how bout we make the test 'drive down the highway at 200km/h.. if you crash you're shit and you fail, if not you pass.. ah that sounds like a good test to me lol.
@lank05 yeah so thats why my insurance has trebled in the last 5 years .. its not inflation at all, its the claims from all the other drivers crashing into each other as you cut them up at 200kmh, ironically it would be people driving as you SAY you do, that cause us all having to take this ridiculous pain in the butt test in the first place. so from the heart of my bottom thanks pal.
i sat my theory test today. failed the theory by 1 mark and failed the hazard awareness by 4 . i think the hazard perception shouldn't be in the test. should be in practical side in stead when you are actually on the road
I sat my theory test yesterday and guess which part I failed on? That's right, it was this shitty HPT. Why it has to be included in a THEORY test is beyond me, though I suspect it has a lot to do with raising revenue for whichever govt. money pit is charged with keeping people off the road these days. Surely hazard perception is covered by the driving test itself? The thing that really stinks is the fact that an 'expert' scores the HPT and not the computer. Draw your own conclusions from that.
I just took a pratice test, for a lot of the clips I got 0. When reviewing my answers, it was because I was clicking too early! I would notice a bike in the distance pulling in and so I'd click, whereas the scoring window hadn't actually begun yet... stupid test!!
Shit quality, unrealistic videos that you are required to take and automatically know what particular hazard the computer is looking for you to spot. I hate the hazard perception, i can get every single question on the question part of the test right but the hazard perception part of it i fail every single time...
My advice is don't try to get a 5 always aim for a 4 or 3. That way your sure you've sported the hazard and avoid getting a zero. Am taking my theory test tomorrow, I will update you guys how it goes.
I,d HGV theory which I passed it by 97 of 100, but I couldent pass the "hazard", I,ve driven over 22 years car without any mark on my driving licence!!!!!
"I think its the most retarded test in the world.." That my friend really sums it up for me, very funny.
i have my test on tuesday and i have been training for it for 2 weeks, 3 mocks a day, with the theory im passing 90-100%, hazard perception, utter crap, 25-30%.
one thing struck me: even the clips i have done before, and failed, then shown to me when i should click, i STILL fail because im trying to get the timing right for that clip rather than PERCEIVING a potential hazard, retarded indeed
Its all revolved around money. If they found a way of making the test fair, or even semi-balanced, it would lose the agency(s) a fortune. I have just failed my hazard perception for the 2nd time a week ago. I have so much rage inside me every time I even hear the words 'hazard perception'.
So if your unsure of what a scam is, I hereby present to you....
If they can't get it by raising taxes in households in fear of losing votes, it's through motorists who pay from everything extortionate from tests, to fuel, to.. oh wait... tax again. If you say motorist to a government member, just watch and you'll see the pennies and pounds gleam in their eyes.
It's a scam, and always will be till some sence is put in the country.
svengalie you r my idol you hit the nail on the head i did the crap test for the second time 2day and failed again just on this stupid unfair test, i have ben driving for 30 years and am doing a adi coarse and cant get passed this hpt i click 3 times as soon as i see the hazard and its never right, it does not reflect reality in any way cause thiers a hell of a big differance btween driving for real and a wee fuzzy screen the size of a cd case......keep ranting please

The problem for me is the video quality. If the videos were taken on a HD cam and the display was nice and large and had more real-life qualities - such as the actual view you're given - I don't think it would be as bad (though it would still be stupid). On my mock test DVDrom that I have, I had to click a hazard before it even came onto the screen. In a car, I would have easily noticed it in my peripheral vision, however on the screen it was a 3/5 before i could see the indicator.
Your point and click idea wher you highlight the hazard sounds far better..
I have been unbelivably pissed off at this retarded test, you listed most of the points as to why its so bad.
It is literally stealing perfectly good drivers money to rebook the test, i just failed my driving instructor hazzard test today by 2 marks..... i kinda want to punch the person in the face that came up with this retarded money making bullshit.
Good to know im not alone, maybe one day they will realise.
@Grazenblaze your not alone i failed the (as you rightly call it) retarded test today for the 2nd time today by 1 point the last time by 4 this means i only have 1 more chance to do it
a hazard is something for which u need to change your speed or your normal course of driving.... what u said like "its raining/windy, when shud i click?" is not exactly for which this test is designed... people fail cause either they click too early or too late.... thers a difference between guessing a hazard and actualy spotting a hazard on its early stage before it develops.
You've got to click the mouse when the POTENTIAL hazard becomes a DEVELOPING hazard. If your opinion of the exact point at which this happens differs from the guy who set the test, you fail. It's a total joke, I failed my LGV hazard perception (by 2 points) with 15 years professional driving experience under my belt.
I am going for my 2nd hazard perception test in 3 hours time. i failed the 1st time much like your self. i have 20 years of driving , never had an accident.I am going for my pcv licence again as i used to be a bus driver in 2000 . i passed my theory test and got 99 out of 100 right. i have passed all my tests 1st time but this bullshit test i got 64 out of a possible 100 arhhhhhhhhhh lol. will have to wait this time and not click to early as last time i actually got on 3 clips 0 wtf???

I just passed my theory today on the second attempt. I failed first time because of the Hazard section (one mark off a pass...). I found that the video quality was terrible, which didnt help when youre trying to see if the car in the distance is indicating or not, or if that cyclist really did look over his shoulder. Youd think at £31 a pop they could afford a better camera to film the footage with
EXACTLY! dude, you are spot on! i took my theory test last week and got 48/50, and on hazard perception... 17/75. am i clicking too early or something? + theres alods of hazards, its a stupid test and it should be either improved or removed! (good slogan for a campain? :L jk)
Just failed and have been driving for 24 years with no accidents. Bullshit is the best description for this test. You must not click when you see a potential hazard. No, you must wait until the person actually leaps infront of your vehicle. Absolute nonsense. This is the first time I have failed a test for being too good at it. It seems there is a bit of an art to it that has little to do with hazard perception. DSA DVD? Its rubbish - I am none the wiser. Nice little money-spinner for the DSA.
BTW who the fuck lets a computer mark their test of a pc video. I understand letting a computer mark the theory test coz thats just right or wrong questions. But for HP is just plain stupid. We just have to click and hope the computer agrees. That is bull. So basically this means when we are driving we should let a computer tells us when to stop or change direction.

You're right its a bullshit money making scheme. I have done some of these hazard perception tests online and sometimes some dickhead RANDOMLY steps out onto the road without looking right in front of the car or someone gets in their car and a second later attempts to pull away, wtf I mean how quick is that. And they say this is shot on real roads with REAL people. Yeah right!
Passed today. On the on line mocks which are are HARDER I have passed with at least 10 points spare. Today I had my test which was slower, clearer: Easier and only passed by 5 points. I spotted some hazards and clicked too early. It was easy to day but I don't agree with my final score.
I agree with every word you said pal. What a crock,I have been driving for over 20 years and i am taking my lgv they call it now,I have 19 video's,But my point is" ,So why don't they have hazrd perception with a truck HGV or whatever you want to call it",In a truck it takes longer to stop and you are higher up in the truck ,So why don't they design one for hgv.Like you said "its confusing to how many clicks you click
I've memorised all the theory topics and just watched the official DSA Hazard Perception test and my God, it sucks. I can't see how it can be an accurate gauge as to how good you are and how rapid you are at spotting hazzards. You get penalised for being too quick!!! Blame my creator! What would be better is if you made to sit with an instructor and ypu just told them what the hazards are as you watch it. Yes, it is very ambiguous and yes, it is another way of the government to make money.
ive been practicing my hazard perception for my theory test and ive been failing on a few videos becuase i spotted the hazard, clicked and its said i clicked before the score margin so i got nothing. i spotted the hazard too early whats that all about! It does my head in!
that was my little bitch about the hazard perception test which is stupid :)
@STRUFC which is exactly why people who have been driving a long time fail it. How can you fail for spotting a hazard too early? There is no such thing as too early in spotting a hazard.
@svengalie yh they dont explain it well. from what i can figure hazard perception is to test your ability to see hazards developing, and click when a developing hazards causes you as a driver to change speed or direction, rather than your reaction time
@STRUFC i have just failed the hazard test with 15 out of 75, i was applying for a driving job with an agency, i obviously spotted TOO MANY hazards and clicked TOO EARLY, what a load of crap, oh by the way i have been driving for 40 years i guess that score makes me a bad driver!!!!
@STRUFC i agree with you 100% mate.. this test is total crap. my test is in 3 weeks time and i am dreading failure. what will i tell my mates???... i was too good at it. haha. my method will be to spot the hazard then click again half a second later. i'm sure a score of 4 out of 5 on the majority will give me a pass.
I totally agree with you. It's a very strange way of testing someones ability to drive safely. Im off to take the test for a second time in a couple of hours. Im not very confident about passing it.
mate you are soo correct, it is a pointless test, epcially when the video quality is poor and they want you to click a black smudge in the horizon, or a car driving by, some of the hazards are, well hazards but some of them are sooooo pointless its unbelievable, there is reason behind the high percentage of freshly passed drivers crashing
I have recently taken the theroy test twice and pass on the mutliple choice but failed the hazard perception both times by one mark! How is that possible, can you really react at the same time both times?? I have my theory again tomorrow so fingers crossed.
Little tip for people who think they are reacting to fast, I've been told to click as soon as you see the hazard, WAIT a second then CLICK AGAIN aslong as you dont machine gun it you should be garanteed some points for both clicks!!!
Been driving 13 years.....(driven approx 150 000 miles) I've hit one wall (lost control, diesel on road..), Clipped one car on a roundabout (hands up, my fault) and when on my push bike a drunk suddenly fell off the pavement (8.40am....) and knocked me out cold and broke one of my ribs. Sitting my Theory test this afternoon towards riding a motorcycle...... Surely if I make it to the test centre in Piccadilly, Manchester, 4 miles of hazards it should count for something?????????
I don't know what your qualification is, but I hope that you're qualified to asses a piece of software used around the country and deciding that it doesn't work properly.
I cannot see any good reason why government shouldn't make more money - Tax payer money circling around - No harm done.
i took my theory test too a fortnight ago, and failed it, and my instructor told me people average about 60 out of the total 75 points available, HORSE-SHIT.... i missed it by 11 points, and i agree i think its coz i clicked way too early... but oh well, i got to sit it again tomorrow, good luck aye!!! lol
I failed the Hazard Perception the first time. I couldn't believe it, I was so ashamed to fail something that was basically the easiest videogame you've ever played. I even doubted if I should ever be allowed to drive, because anyone who can't pass this the first time must have a single digit IQ and the motor-skills of a toddler, right? After doing some research I learned that it wasn't my inability to spot or react to the hazards: it was simply that I wasn't clicking enough. Stupid bloody test.
the thing that gets me is many people pass there C.B.T then do their bike test after the C.B.T...so they have had 2 years rding experience, and then you have to sit this crap after having 2 years on the road if it was that important then what the hell are they dong letting people out on the roads with no road experience without sitting this exam...what a load of money making shit!
@FerrariGood It's irritating, I have practice software I'm using because I do the actual test; I click as soon as I say the hazard as instructed; and fail for that cause.
what percentage of the hazard perception test do you have to get to pass
Help i wanna no if i am ready to take my theory/hazard test i really dont want to fail i have both the dics for the theory and the hazard test but it doesnt tell you how much you have to get to pass and it doesnt tell you if you fail its so silly

On top of that, the instruction video you get shows a rider on a bike turn its head to look behind him. That is what they consider a hazard in the HPT. Now, fair enough, but the fact I watched it on a 15" with videos of poor quality and pale colours makes it hard for me to actually see him turn his head. Same goes for indicators. Sometimes the colours are so pale, I can't see the bloody indicators... how am I supposed to spot a hazard when the videos aren't even of a good standard?
The main flaw of this test is, is that it doesn't give you points, until the computer says so.
I saw a video of a girl riding a horse on a country road. Now, I saw this horse miles ahead and already knew what was potentially going to happen. I waited a bit, saw the horse getting restless, so I clicked. Then the horse ran across the road onto a driveway. I got 1 point. I clicked too soon. I saw the hazard before the computer gave points. I beat the computer, yet I failed the test.
HPT is a bullshit and everyone who is supporting this crap is braindead or just have financial benefits from this conspiracy known as greatness of soul of our traffic experts - all sort of scientists (e.g. Climategate) - just bribery.
Besides noone considered that people are different and react in different times, but this doesn't mean this man is ok, but the second one is a freak driver.
Sven you are right. It is the best example how to multiply the income of DVLA through theory test with HPT.
It is right that just clicking is a nonsense. I was watching a movie where me - the driver was driving on a motorway. I've noticed a car joining from a slip road - click. And I scored 5, but the real hazard was very far ahead - the car driver on the same lane pressed the break pedal. I was lucky because everything happened in the same time.
I failed first time for spotting the hazards to fast, you are meant to click when they are obviously a hazard, like if its in the way. Not before its about to get in the way.
I hate this test too, I saw it ages back when they were still considering it.
What I hate is you can see kids on the side of road playing football (which is one of the official ones, although they change them so I don't know if it still exists) so that's a possible hazard right? So you'd click... if you play it back the hazard doesn't start until the ball is already in the road... that is WTF x2.
The way I figured through was to click when *I* thought there was hazard, and then theirs.
@drsquirrel0 Oh, and another was someone running across the road to the passenger side of a car, I knew the car was going to pull out (passenger side, running/rushing), but the hazard doesn't "start" until the car starts to pull out.
That's BULLCRAP - I knew it was going to happen yet you would fail if you clicked "too soon".
I don't have to worry about this so I'm lucky I guess :/
Not only that but some of the footage is so piss poor in quality it's really hard to see. I had one where a lorry in front was indicating and it was a hazard. The video was so fucking pixelated it was almost impossible to see the indicator. It's a fucking scam and aloud of shit. What they need, but it would be costly, is someone sitting with you, you click and explain why you clicked, the actual person then marks you.
I'd also like to add that it's shitter than shit. I thought the HPT was the shittest thing known to man. I passed it but I was still fucked off. It's the most stressful part of the test. Your busy worrying about not clicking to much as it fails you on that specific test thinking you're cheating. But if you stop a hazard to early then you can also not get points. Some hazards I was spotting and clicking, waiting a few seconds and clicking again in case I was to early with the first click.
The hazard perception test is total nonsense. In one clip the "hazard" will be a bike, in the next clip the bike in a near *identical* scenario is not the hazard - total bollocks. I aced the theory but failed this bit because i spotted too many hazards. I just can't tell what they think the hazard is at any given moment :-(
@VampHammer1 So the goverment created a "test" to "test" how good a driver you are, yet the instructors that take this test fail it? Something smells fishy.
Anyway, obvious troll is obvious - your opinion is in the minority if you browse the (sane) comments on this thread.
@svengalie Agreed, the test doesn't test hazard perception, it supports "spot the hazard we mark you for". I have seen videos with up to 10 hazards, or potential hazards, yet the computer only marks you for 1. How does that constitute to a fair judgement of someone's hazard perception? Aside from that, hazard perception is not theory, it is road knowledge and safety.
failed my theory test yesterday by 4 marks, and passed the question part by 5 marks. why cant they just count the marks as a whole. so annoying, i was parinoid not to click too many times because of what it said at the start, so i only clicked like 2 or 3 times for each clip. pissed me off big, and a waste of £30! :(
I'd go a step further, surely a better way of doing it would be to drive or be driven around a town pointing things out to an examiner. and see if you have a good understanding of hazards.
@estaa11 I completely agree. Or, rather than click the mouse when you see a hazard, have someone scoring you beside you as you could point out all potential hazards on the screen. I fear that if I click for too many potential hazards I see, then I'll get 0 points for clicking too much
And if you pass the hazard perception and 1 mark away on the mock or vice versa then you have to retake the whole test again because of 1 mark, Like thats gonna make a difference to your driving! So yea its just another way to make money and they say its for safety, bullshit is it. No one learns from theory they learn from practical.
Yea the Theory Test is complete bullshit its just a way for the goverment and DVLA to make alot of money as its not cheap at around £31 a time! For people who fail this time around 3-4 + times its gonna cost them well over £100 to pass a pointless test plus driving lessons arent cheap then the practical test around £60. I think they should make the test that if you fail you stay until you passed, at least then you learn from mistakes. The practical should be more concentrated on.
Thanks vamphammer1. I really feel that the videos before the practise clips are very misleading. They tell you that a wet road is a hazard to click and mud.. and children on the pavement.. it's so confusing. I'll use your advice and let you know how I do next week. :)
Totally agree with you. I'm going to do mine next week & I am just scraping a pass on the practise DVD's. It's odd because the more I practise with the clips obviously the earlier I'm clicking on the hazards and my score is actually going down. I got a big 'cheat' on one clip because I clicked on everything I thought they would say was a hazard not because I was cheating. I'm trying not to get annoyed with it though. I WILL pass this ridiculous test.
@VampHammer1 Thank you vamphammer1 :) I passed my theory today. 49/50 for questions and just scraped the hazard with 49 as well. I used your advice and didn't go clicking crazy. Sooo relieved!
your right its bullshit i clicked when i spotted it early and when i was closer and i think thats y i failed it by 3 points even though i passed the multiple choice part
I like :-) and I have been riding a 125 for 2 years never crashed, dropd or fallen off... Do the DVLA take any of this into account?? No. Now I have to pay £400 to prove it...
heres a tip from an instructor, you have to click for a developing hazard, e.g pedestrian walking from pavement to road or a car pulling out of a junction. and ist usually 1 hazard per clip

100% true, I almost failed my hazard perception test, I had to deliberately be slow to react to pass. It sucks donkey balls.

you are right
archiko99 3 months ago
just passed this today - but youre right it is far too ambiguous - plus the intro at the start was vague as it said something about clicking when you spot a developing hazard and clicking again if it changes or develops. pardon? so i double click? how are you defining a change? i.e. if a car indicates to turn off the road, you click as you may have to slow down, but if it hasnt made the turn by the time you get there and you have to stop, is that a change or is it part of the same hazard? daft.

I've just booked my theory for a few weeks time and I hope I master this stupid half of the test by then.
xsmatherx 6 months ago
Personally I think this test is retarded as well because seeing a hazard on a computer and driving and seeing the hazard for yourself is two completely different things, its basically saying every single thing in the video clip as svengalie was saying, because of this retarded part of the test i failed after a week of waking up practising the theory test before going to sleep practising the theory test, it went to waste alittle bit because of the fact is i got 43 in the theory when top is 49.

@TheMintedAero1993 Fail my hazard last week 49/50 and fail the whole test by one point 43/75 BULLSHIT thats all i could say.
Brian53255 7 months ago
Yeh and i hardly clicked at all during the double hazard one, maybe 8/9/10 times throughout THE WHOLE DURATION, i.e. not in bursts/constant clicking throughout, i clicked once for the potential hazards, and then maybe a couple of time when i saw them (to ensure i got a click in the scoring zone) and it said id tried to cheat and gave me 0. 10 fucking points down the drain! You are quite right in saying you are between a rock and a hard place, never mind i got 45 out of 75, 44 is a pass, phew lol
TheseGoToo11 7 months ago
It's possible to react too quickly, however saying you're "too good" just makes you sound like an arrogant dick.

Ridiculous.

This video is spot on, this is so so true !!
well said and done, hazards are everywhere, yet if you click too much, you fail, if you click too early, you don't score anything. Retarded? yeah i think so...
Benjiboi87 10 months ago
Spotting a hazard to early! If I see a vehicle waiting to pull out from a side junction somewhere ahead then that is not necessarily a hazard until I am close enough for it to become one. Once I am close enough it may become a potential hazard. If the car begins to move out into the main road when I am close enough then it is a developing hazard. So what is close enough, I have time to slow down for a potential hazard and time to stop for a developing hazard!
JurassicPlank 10 months ago
The test is primarily aimed at young drivers as they have the highest probability of having an accident. To older drivers who have to sit the test it is considered an unnecessary inconvenience, especially if they have already been driving for some time. I notice that most of the people moaning are those who have failed the test.
JurassicPlank 10 months ago
Like anything the test will probably evolve subject to feedback. The biggest problem that people who fail this type of test is they don't spend enough time understanding what is required before they sit it. If you think that response time is a problem then practice with a more relaxed attitude. Take some time to appreciate what constitutes the different types of hazard. If you see somebody walking towards you that is a potential hazard. If they turn towards the road that is a developing hazard.
JurassicPlank 10 months ago
Im having the same problem with the hazard perception part, took it yesterday for the 1st time and got 50/50 on the Multiple question part but got 40/75 because i was clicking too quickly in the mock tests at home and corrected this by multiple clicking. Obviously i didnt want to do that in the real thing and score 0 for cheating so i held back and what happens ? .....i fail because i spot them too quickly ? what a load of bull ....i hope they change this thing and not for my sake but everyones!
TantoBlade2007 11 months ago
yeah i have to do my bike test , same problem i think driving trucks and cars for 30 years with no accidents or convictions plus full no claims should equate to just having to refresh the q and a part of the theory test point 2 i ve been in 2 bumps as a passenger and both were rear end shunts from new drivers some people remember numbers and can get the stopping distances every time ..me i forget them but the difference is i know them in practice, some people think a 40 foot is 40 inches
poodlehopper 11 months ago
I think if I can go 200km/h down the highway in moderate to high traffic, weaving thru all 4 lanes while racing another car and not crash I should be exempt from having to do this shithouse test.
Actually, how bout we make the test 'drive down the highway at 200km/h.. if you crash you're shit and you fail, if not you pass.. ah that sounds like a good test to me lol.
lank05 1 year ago
@lank05 yeah so thats why my insurance has trebled in the last 5 years .. its not inflation at all, its the claims from all the other drivers crashing into each other as you cut them up at 200kmh, ironically it would be people driving as you SAY you do, that cause us all having to take this ridiculous pain in the butt test in the first place. so from the heart of my bottom thanks pal.

vivmyster 1 year ago
I sat my theory test yesterday and guess which part I failed on? That's right, it was this shitty HPT. Why it has to be included in a THEORY test is beyond me, though I suspect it has a lot to do with raising revenue for whichever govt. money pit is charged with keeping people off the road these days. Surely hazard perception is covered by the driving test itself? The thing that really stinks is the fact that an 'expert' scores the HPT and not the computer. Draw your own conclusions from that.
PadsterDood 1 year ago
I just took a pratice test, for a lot of the clips I got 0. When reviewing my answers, it was because I was clicking too early! I would notice a bike in the distance pulling in and so I'd click, whereas the scoring window hadn't actually begun yet... stupid test!!

Shit quality, unrealistic videos that you are required to take and automatically know what particular hazard the computer is looking for you to spot. i have my test on tuesday and i have been training for it for 2 weeks, 3 mocks a day, with the theory im passing 90-100%, hazard perception, utter crap, 25-30%.
one thing struck me: even the clips i have done before, and failed, then shown to me when i should click, i STILL fail because im trying to get the timing right for that clip rather than PERCEIVING a potential hazard, retarded indeed

@125969mcm money for the government.

In a car, I would have easily noticed it in my peripheral vision, however on the screen it was a 3/5 before i could see the indicator.

a hazard is something for which u need to change your speed or your normal course of driving.... what u said like "its raining/windy, when shud i click?" is not exactly for which this test is designed... people fail cause either they click too early or too late.... thers a difference between guessing a hazard and actualy spotting a hazard on its early stage before it develops.

@svengalie yh they dont explain it well. from what i can figure hazard perception is to test your ability to see hazards developing, and click when a developing hazards causes you as a driver to change speed or direction, rather than your reaction time

@FerrariGood It's irritating, I have practice software I'm using because I do the actual test; I click as soon as I say the hazard as instructed; and fail for that cause.

Piisuke 1 year ago
@Piisuke i think you click too late house by it self is a hazard
burrozion 1 year ago
HPT is a bullshit and everyone who is supporting this crap is braindead or just have financial benefits from this conspiracy known as greatness of soul of our traffic experts - all sort of scientists (e.g. Climategate) - just bribery.
Besides noone considered that people are different and react in different times, but this doesn't mean this man is ok, but the second one is a freak driver.
kardellwalker 1 year ago
Sven you are right. It is the best example how to multiply the income of DVLA through theory test with HPT.
It is right that just clicking is a nonsense. I was watching a movie where me - the driver was driving on a motorway. I've noticed a car joining from a slip road - click. And I scored 5, but the real hazard was very far ahead - the car driver on the same lane pressed the break pedal. I was lucky because everything happened in the same time.
kardellwalker 1 year ago
I failed first time for spotting the hazards to fast, you are meant to click when they are obviously a hazard, like if its in the way. Not before its about to get in the way.
rishy561 1 year ago
I hate this test too, I saw it ages back when they were still considering it.
What I hate is you can see kids on the side of road playing football (which is one of the official ones, although they change them so I don't know if it still exists) so that's a possible hazard right? So you'd click... if you play it back the hazard doesn't start until the ball is already in the road... that is WTF x2.
The way I figured through was to click when *I* thought there was hazard, and then theirs.
drsquirrel0 1 year ago
@drsquirrel0 Oh, and another was someone running across the road to the passenger side of a car, I knew the car was going to pull out (passenger side, running/rushing), but the hazard doesn't "start" until the car starts to pull out.
That's BULLCRAP - I knew it was going to happen yet you would fail if you clicked "too soon".
I don't have to worry about this so I'm lucky I guess :/
drsquirrel0 1 year ago
Not only that but some of the footage is so piss poor in quality it's really hard to see. I had one where a lorry in front was indicating and it was a hazard. The video was so fucking pixelated it was almost impossible to see the indicator. It's a fucking scam and aloud of shit. What they need, but it would be costly, is someone sitting with you, you click and explain why you clicked, the actual person then marks you.
joeypesci 1 year ago
I'd also like to add that it's shitter than shit. I thought the HPT was the shittest thing known to man. I passed it but I was still fucked off. It's the most stressful part of the test. Your busy worrying about not clicking to much as it fails you on that specific test thinking you're cheating. But if you stop a hazard to early then you can also not get points. Some hazards I was spotting and clicking, waiting a few seconds and clicking again in case I was to early with the first click.
joeypesci 1 year ago

Good luck with that.

@VampHammer1 Practice makes perfect? Then why did a double figure percentage of the DRIVING INSTRUCTORS taking this 'test' fail?
As your own comment indicates, you're practising to beat a computer, not get better at driving.
svengalie 1 year ago
@svengalie Agreed, the test doesn't test hazard perception, it supports "spot the hazard we mark you for". I have seen videos with up to 10 hazards, or potential hazards, yet the computer only marks you for 1. How does that constitute to a fair judgement of someone's hazard perception? Aside from that, hazard perception is not theory, it is road knowledge and safety.
Piisuke 1 year ago
i think that you are right ,i have my test in a few days so lets hope the computer is thinking the same as me on the day,
mrliversalts 1 year ago
failed my theory test yesterday by 4 marks, and passed the question part by 5 marks. why cant they just count the marks as a whole. so annoying, i was parinoid not to click too many times because of what it said at the start, so i only clicked like 2 or 3 times for each clip. pissed me off big, and a waste of £30! :(

Do you have the new touchscreen monitors?
Sirradal 1 year ago
I'd go a step further, surely a better way of doing it would be to drive or be driven around a town pointing things out to an examiner. and see if you have a good understanding of hazards.
estaa11 1 year ago
@estaa11 I completely agree. Or, rather than click the mouse when you see a hazard, have someone scoring you beside you as you could point out all potential hazards on the screen. I fear that if I click for too many potential hazards I see, then I'll get 0 points for clicking too much
FerrariGood 1 year ago
And if you pass the hazard perception and 1 mark away on the mock or vice versa then you have to retake the whole test again because of 1 mark, Like thats gonna make a difference to your driving! So yea its just another way to make money and they say its for safety, bullshit is it. No one learns from theory they learn from practical.
mrtalkischeap 1 year ago
Yea the Theory Test is complete bullshit its just a way for the goverment and DVLA to make alot of money as its not cheap at around £31 a time! For people who fail this time around 3-4 + times its gonna cost them well over £100 to pass a pointless test plus driving lessons arent cheap then the practical test around £60. I think they should make the test that if you fail you stay until you passed, at least then you learn from mistakes. The practical should be more concentrated on.
mrtalkischeap 1 year ago
YES YES YES.
I passed my first theory test with a high mark, i had to redo it today as i left it for 2 years with out learning to drive.
This time i studied hard as i wanted 100%. I got 50/50 for the questions and failed the hazard perception by 1 point.
I have been failed because my sensory awareness is higher than average Joe's and i clicked just before!
Such a stupid system, you have to learn when to click, like playing a computer game instead of using your instincts.
deepseabadger 1 year ago
Doing mine today, but I'm getting average scores on the practises :D
But it is a stupid test that's highly flawed.
Jammey90 1 year ago
I totally agree, and the pratise clips are sooo misleading. I failed the first time on it, and i have my retake in two days
tommywazear 1 year ago

Sooo relieved!

your right its bullshit i clicked when i spotted it early and when i was closer and i think thats y i failed it by 3 points even though i passed the multiple choice part

omg. Did this online, and its almost like i spotted the hazards 'too early' as i got zero for most!

I like :-) and I have been riding a 125 for 2 years never crashed, dropd or fallen off... Do the DVLA take any of this into account?? No. Now I have to pay £400 to prove it...

I've been riding a couple of months longer than you. I've crashed a fucking lot (see my videos)
And I have a full motorcycle licence and the world most powerful production motorcycle :S

You make a lot of good points, the test is just a money grab!
katakisLives 1 year ago
heres a tip from an instructor, you have to click for a developing hazard, e.g pedestrian walking from pavement to road or a car pulling out of a junction. and ist usually 1 hazard per clip
Gizmorun 1 year ago
It's really waste of time they should have more question rather then this Hazard test!!!
