  • way to fast!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Very good but It would have been nicer to actually see the chords and fingering. don't you think?

  • Hi Fabian, ich suche noche einen Lehrer ;-)

  • to fast :)

  • thats really good dude!

  • amazing!

  • is that you johnny?

  • im drinking a beer

  • this version is too fast for my ear :/ hmm.. maybe try to slow down a bit.. and enjoy that music :)

of course it's just a friendly advice, i can't play this song, so all i can say is RESPECT. :]

  • this video doesn't show up in the search results when using my iphone...weird

  • the best performance of classical gas on youtube, except obviously, mason williams.

Your tempo is almost perfect unlike other videos i've seen. GOOD JOB!

  • This isnt nearly the best one, But it's very good.

  • get off his back can you do any better?

  • Come back and squeak when you can do better. Easy to be an armchair quarterback

  • Quality :) Well Done!

  • oh my god. this song makes my heart beat really fast :S:S i dont even know why!! but oh my good god, its so good...

    from 0:51 - 1:49 it was like DUNDUNDUNDN :)

  • te felicito, la verdad sacaste muy bien el tema... supongo que todos lo saben, pero por si alguien no lo sabia éste tema sale en los Simpson...

  • that was freakin amazing

  • Dean on man! Good job, props.

  • nice mate

  • Pretty cool man,

you must of got the same tabs as I got

same way I play it :)

  • dude u knw the song alright...but u hav a tempo problem....learn to keep ur speed constant...dnt fluctuate......thats the same problem i hav....and it sok if u rewrite a lil and not ruin the melody...not necessary to be the copy paste of the real one....improvising is a good talent show how gud u can feel the melody rather than just hearing it

  • His tempo is almost dead on. That's the way the original song was written and very few people get the tempo correct. He did a great job on it.

  • whoa, i have the same shirt and guitar, no lie

    nice job, sounds good

  • Fantastic...wish I could play this good.

  • Who is this guy Erik.

    Rush a bit? ... D:

  • wow, thats a really nice song!

where did you get the tabs?

  • where you get your tabs from

  • slightly altered and a few fuck ups...but dam good.

  • great job!

  • Very Nice

  • very nice!

  • You are an amazing talent. Nice work!

  • YouTube is not a credible enough website for whether or not Eric played that song. It is a common misconception, Eric Clapton never covered it. Anybody can just place Eric Clapton next to Classical Gas in a title and say that he wrote, but are they right?

  • Eric Clapton did not write this . Silly wanker!

  • dumb ass .i didnt say he wrote it i said he played.(wanker)

  • idiot he never even covered it.

  • he did fool.

  • ur retarded

  • ahahah clapton didnt write this song.

  • there is a right way and a wrong way to hold your wrist for every body.look at jimi hendrex he played with is thum.

  • Cool!!

  • no hes not thats how u play a classical guitar...

  • There is no right or wrong. Everybody finds their own posture and tone.

  • no actually there is a right posture

ur not supposed to arch ur wrist too much

  • That is in a sense true, but I gauge on, if I close my eyes, does it sound the same. As long as it doesn't lead to long term problems like a carpal tunnel or arthritis, it's cool in my book.

If a guitarist can shove the guitar up his ass and play it with his intestines and it sounds good, personally, I just wouldn't care how he gets the notes to come out.

  • Clapton did play it, I have it. It sounds great. This guy sounds pretty good too

  • right on, pretty tough song

  • i need to grow out my nails so i can play classical guitar... haha

  • nice beautiful,,,thnx

  • please, real ignorant if u dont think clapton doesnt play this, just went to his concert in may and he fucking played this song perfect, of course it was composed by mason williams but claptons acoustic version is by far the best, and for him not playin acoustic? he had at least an hour session in the concert of just him playing acoustic

  • AWESOME!

  • nice job!

  • fuck man you're good.

  • I cant believe how much debate exists over whether eric has played it or not. everyone has their views. i am not going to give my view otherwise someone wil hammer me saying errrrr he did play it err he didnt. theres a fair bit of evidence on the web that he did play it

  • This was written and recorded by Mason Williams who still plays it and is alive and well in Oregon. Its the most famous guitar solo ever written. If you go to Clapton's website and then to Mason Williams site you will see that they both have statements that Clapton never did a cover of it and did not use it in his shows. Every musician including Clapton can play it. It is a rite of passage for guitar players the world over.

  • so are u a musican?

  • Eric Clapton, has never, ever, played Classical Gas.

  • You know this for fact? Have you sat in his home with him every single day to know that he's never been curious enough to play. I'm sure he's played it.

I cannot stand pompous arrogant people like yourself who claim to know everything.

If you think he's never performed it, then say that he's never performed it. But to say he's NEVER EVER PLAYED IT...well...I think that only he would know if he's EVER played it.

  • Not to mention, he has even preformed it live, so unless you follow his every tour, you probably wouldn't know.

  • YOU'RE ALL WRONG!!! =DD

-Clapton did not write this, obviously Mason Williams did...Clapton did not perfect it, -in the classical guitar genre or jazz or blues. Mason Williams probably did the best job of it for classical, and in jazz and blues, TOMMY EMMANUEL!!! (excuse my introduction of a foreign name...but c'mon, gotta give Australia some credit for producing just about the greatest guitarist in the world)

  • clapton played it, i don't care what anyone thinks, i have a recording of him speaking before playing it and it's definitely his voice. of course he played it, now i'm not saying he wrote it, but he did play it, end of story

  • dboz33 your wrong i have like 5 or 6 tape when clapton is playing and in two of these he playing classical gas...so he has preformed it

  • brilliant

  • Alright im squashing this shit. Mason Williams wrote this, that is true. Clapton tributed it and played it more crisply than Williams, so he is credited. Mason williams wrote it, Clapton perfected it. but look at it...Clapton is the acoustic God.

  • wrong. sorry but clapton never recorded it or performed it. its just a massive misconception held by many. the version you think is clpaton is from "the story of us" soundtrack in which clapton did most of the music, but it was williams himself playing that version of classical gas on the soundtrack.

  • Listen, or read... Eric Clapton did NOT do Classical, is was just a wrongly named mp3, Mason Willaims created classical gas!

  • Yes thanks for that :)

  • eric clapton never played it stoops

  • of course clapton played it

  • Dude, if you're gonna dispute what I'm saying then where's your proof? What album was it on? Show/ direct me to one single piece of evidence that proves he played it or don't waste my time with your unsubstantiated speculation.

  • Wow! That was amazing!

  • suhweeet!!!

  • nice 1 dude...i'll post mine soon

  • What happened around 00:30? lol. Pretty good. It's a Mason Williams song not Clapton. I don't believe Clapton ever covered it. And yea the intro is 3/4 time, you played it off.

  • yeah, he covered it all right

  • classic song eric claptons a wizz but u could do a tutorial one. eric clapton guitar wizz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude... its a mason williams song... clapton did a cover

  • You are half right...it is Mason Williams, but Clapton NEVER covered it....that's just internet urban myth

  • i figured it was, seeing as i never was able to find an actual version. seems pretty dumb that all the tab sites have it under clapton. its a shame

  • not a myth dude

  • hey man timing was a little off but still great. i'm been trying to learn the song and i actually learned what i was doing wrong from watching this.

  • Fuck me!! that was unaturally brill dude, think i'll stop trying now :o(

  • I just smashed my guitar! BRAVO! Always one of my favorite songs, and you done it good my bro.

  • you can play it right buuuuuut listen to the song so you know the timing

you play it a bit too fast

  • the beauty of classical guitar is the ability to make things your own, and mess with timing, go on itunes and search classical gas and you'll see what i mean, every plays these things different

  • i know i posted one myself. messing with eric clapton's gas contrast i sounds realy good!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • Amazing...I'm attempting to learn the song but I'm pretty new at guitar(only been playing for a few months)and I also have the horrible habit of always using a pick...which is not possible for this song. lol Really good. The best I've heard out of all of the ones on youtbe.

  • yeah you have to get in the habit of being able to play with a pick(not on this song of course) and being able to play with you fingers :) you will get it down

  • nice

  • Excellent! fiv and a fav.

  • that was really good

  • this is the best ive ever seen somebody play classical gas other than all the greats....5 stars

  • I have viewed this video at least 15 times. He does the best performance of this song (amongst the amateurs) on YouTube. A+

  • awesome stuff, i'm leaning it myself. some of the barring is tricky though for me :P

  • Same here jungenbum, the transitions into and out of the chorus is what's giving me the most trouble

  • you got most of the notes, but your rushing it. peace!

  • sweet!!

  • with ur right hand try to use less wrist. but other than that GREAT JOB! see whe u put ur wrist inward almost causing a strait plain with ur forearm then u get a much better sound. playing this song as well

    again VERY NICE ^.^

  • Actually that is the correct position for playing classical guitar. It allows better freedom of movement. Look at any master classical guitar player and their hand hovers just like this with the wrist curved and the fingers of the right hand perpendicular. His left hand thumb should stay behind the neck at all times. Any way, this was a very nice version, Lovely. :o)

  • which tabs did you use?

  • i agree that this is a very talented young musician im playing classical gas to its not an easy one to play

  • doesnt matter who plays this song, it takes talent, and all the versions her are excellente.. hats off

  • t emanuel

  • which tabs did you use?

  • great job im trying to learn it but its so hard

  • fuck thats must took awhile to maaster that im learning it right now good job man i added this as a favrotie check out my vids

  • great job sir. I admire all the discipline it took to get to where you are at.

  • Those r Eric Claptons tabs. That version of the song is not Mason Williams

  • Actually, Eric Clapton never played this song. No one is too sure who played the version everyone thinks is his.

  • Mason Williams was the original writer. He sold it to a few people, and it became a classic, he now has rights to it though.

  • wow ur really good!!

  • i like my guitar too :)

  • I like the sound of your guitar. It's very loud and crisp, especially the when you get to 1:08.

  • great!

  • best I've heard, trying to play it at the moment, its extremly difficult, I've never really tried any classical stuff

  • i need those tabs please!!

  • Is that a yamaha c-40?

  • Try listening to each and every note as you play it. Take your time as you come down with the 7ths - your getting a bit out of control. Also - feel the ending more - you looked like your were in a hurry to get out of the tune, hold on and let it die at the end. I rememeber doing this and your doing the same thing I did. Find a good teacher to listen and give you honest feedback. Piano players are good at giving feedback. Be honest with yourself and you will improve greatly.

  • if ur a piano player, ur pretty full of urself

  • No I play guitar also - I was just trying to help him become a better player by giving him some tips I learned along my path. I am sorry if my observations offended you johknut.

  • do u have the tabs to this? If so, can u send them to me?

  • Very nice... I'm trying to learn this song but I only play the guitar for 2 month so it's hard! If some day I play it as you do I'll upload a video but I think it's not gonna happen. :-D

  • we had this blind guy come to our skool and he played dis on piano and guitar i cant cant believe how fast he played it and it sounded awesum!!!

  • super cool. i still remember i first learnt this song on the simpsons when lisa plays it.

  • that was a delightful rendition

  • wow very nice. Trying to learn this on the ukulele :-)

  • also very speak english goodness

  • i play very good this song

  • was a plesure m8, realy nice done

  • To the MORON that keeps telling people that it's Mason Williams - yes it is, but Clapton had his own version, and it's this one. So learn something before you go flaming people and proving to the world that you're an uneducated prick who seeks his victories on youTube comments.

  • Yet you reply doing the same thing? I'm not flaming anyone. It's reality. Clapton never released a version of Classical Gas. I've revealed my sources. Have you? Hmm, don't start calling names because it's really pathetic, especially when trying to insult someone on a grade 2 level. Idiot.

  • But it's still Mason WIlliams Moron..

Hurrayy another vctory for me :D:D

  • I don't know how people are saying it's perfect. Classical Gas is a level 2 piece and is not challenging at all. It's pretty good I'll admit, but your timing is way off and you have a bunch of wrong notes here & there. It's yours. Do with it what you will, but if you want to be exactly like the original, I suggest you download the track.

By the way, it was posted a few years back on an official Eric Clapton site that he has never made a recording of Classical Gas.

  • Your right, it was pretty easy to play ;) At least the beginning...

  • Classical gas might be a level 2 piece, but it's got a "zen" quality to it that begs playing and re-playing to technical perfection. I've been playing the piece for over 20 years and always find a new way to develop my right hand technique. There's a lot of "feel" to this piece, and that's its major departure from playing classical music. I try to stick to the feel of the recording on, "The Mason Williams Phonograph Record," though I really like the way he played it on, "Handmade" as well.

  • I love it, great job. asked my nephew to learn to play it for me.

  • HOOOOT AS HELL BUDDY...

  • inspirational!

  • i've been trying to play it, but i simply can't , but i'll practice until i can , damn it!, you play it PERFECTLY!!!

  • Err yeah dude eric clapton does play it. His own version. Exactly like that.

  • super bien fait !!! O_O

  • top stuff 5 stars alll the way. im learnin it atmm, and when i need to hear a bit, tis the place i come to leran. great post

  • spot on; fuckin amazing. 5 dicks up.

  • You did a great job. Five stars. Balanced bass, clean and faithful.

  • I've just got a copy of the tab for this song - been wanting to learn it for ages - you've inspired me dude - Very Well Played - can't believe somebody is telling you to grow nails and practise more

  • Hehe, not as good as Lisa Simpson but good enough...this one gets all my five arrrs...

  • that was very good, i am very impressed. we need to get together and play this song. it would sound awsome

  • dude that sounds exactly like the guitar that Eric Clapton uses in the song

  • Eric Clapton doesn't play guitar for this song you idiot, it is by Mason Williams

  • nice job

  • thats pretty amazing.

  • im not a complete ass like the other fellas...

you are fucking good! keep it up!

  • lol, maybe if you ever had played guitar, you would notice either from the sound or from the way i pick the strings that i play with nails...

and yes i could practise more, but just don't want to...

  • GROW SOME NAILS

  • MORE PRACTISE

  • good speed man

  • TEMPO

    you need a metronome badly

  • buy some real strings.

    buy a metronome.

  • I can't wait to hear you play it

  • its a classical guitar dumbass

  • way too fast, dude.

  • no way, its perfect speed.

  • I cna do thisone too but I've made some little changes into it so it sounds a little bit otherwise then the original ;)

  • very nice

  • Very good.

  • Nice very nice I also can play it but not that good i need more practice :)

  • que buen angulo

  • i just started learning this song and got really frustrated but you've encouraged me to continue! awesome work dude

  • great
