@suzettespencer I think the argument isn't 5 rounds total to survive on, it's the idea that you need to be able to get your task done in 5 rounds or less (i.e. to drop an animal for food you shouldn't need over 5 rounds....1 should do with a couple extra if you don't get a kill shot the first time) even if you carry a "beta mag" that's only 100 rounds....if you use 5 rounds each time it's only good for use 20 times. :)

DirtyMidgetStudios, if you bought a Mosin Nagant for 100 bucks you got ripped off. You can find them for around 60 dollars, including the bayonet and sling (not that you need the bayonet, but still, it's a steal).

True. But this was in the context of some mall ninja preparing for SHTF or something to that effect. If something like that happened, you wouldn't want your $3,000 special built AR in some wildcat chambering. Someone would see it and kill you for it. Plus you don't need plate carriers, tac vests, ect. What you do need are basic survival tools (fire starters, water purification, food, water, knife, ect) and weapon training. No point in a $1000 dollar rifle you don't know how to use.
