awesome video - did they have another guitarist with them? the riffs going on sound like there being picked but from ryans motions it looks like he's full on strumming - and i know johnny marr tours with them these days.

For this show it was just the 3 Jarmans, they did not have Johnny Marr with them.

For more examples of this technique, watch Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood play the lead parts on songs like Bangers and Mash. He'll do these massive slicing, jerking strums and always hit exactly the right sequence of notes.
