when comparing the budget deficit of previous governments to the current one, it is important to compare them as a percentage of GDP,

thus, inflation and the diminished purchasing power parity is taken into account.

when you compare todays deficit, with the likes in WWII, it is similar.

I think Jeremiah 51:11-13 was already fulfilled when Babylon fell to the Medeo-Persian empire.

Remember Nebuchadnezzer's statue in the Book of Daniel?

It's head of gold was Babylon, followed by it's chest and arms of silver which was the Medeo-Persian empire, and so on.

Jeremiah could have also been referring to historical Babylon. He meant for Seraiah to read it aloud in Bablyon.

Daniel's interprets the hand writing on the wall to Belshazzar, king of Babylon, confirms this.

Daniel 5:25-30.

25 "This is what the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN

26 "This is what these words mean: Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.
