    thats called hard love

  • Correction . "Im just gonna WATCH the movie :)".

  • Well im spose to read this book for ap english and i realllly dont feel like it. So im just gonna read the book:)

  • dang he suck at checkers...

  • I can already tell this sucks. Screw English. Beats reading the book though.

  • i really enjoyed this movie and i think halle berry played a exceptional part in the movie. I just

didnt like the ending where as she felt she had to shoot the guy. How is it so damn easy to

shoot the hell out a person you fell in love with. All she had to do is run the hell out the house. And

she procrastinated too long while he was sick.

  • @blackchilly123 it's how it happend in the book mate

  • WHY ARE ALL YALL BEING SO DAMN NIT PICKY BOUT THE MOVIE NOT BEING TRUE TO THE BOOK BECAUSE HER HAIR IS EITHER STRAIGHT OR WAVY? NEXT ARE YALL GONE BITCH BECAUSE, SAY FOR INSTANCE THE DIRT ON THE ROAD "AINT THE RIGHT COLOR"?

  • @JACQUELLE2001 Hahahahah, well said!

  • what chapters are these?

  • @1lonso JUST THE 1ST CHAPTER

  • This is not how the book was written, they modified some of the most important parts

  • that yell at 8:17 would have scared me for life -_- "JANIE"!!! daag grandma!

  • Our teacher let us listen to the reading of the book. I had no idea Ruby Dee was going to be in the movie! It surprised me :)

  • @PivUHT0107 Ruby Dee did a great job on the reading.

  • she was my great great aunt such an inspiration to me wish i had been alive to know her truly a great woman i love hearing stories about her from my grandma its amazing to see she isnt forgotten

  • loooooveee this movie soo frkin much!

  • her hair, I grew mine out because of this book and movie

  • Just finished the book, now it's my favorite! I LOVE THIS BOOK! Thank you Zora!

Watching the movie because it really touched me...poor Tea Cake :(

    Great book :)

  • Terence Blanchard know he can compose some music The music in this movie is wonderful.

  • Dear Oprah:

Did you even understand the book?

  • of course halle berry would be in this movie. and fyi her hair is supposed to be straight so whoever made this movie YOU FAIL

  • @xj3ssica it wasnt supposed to be straight, it was just suppossed to show that she had caucasian features. thats why it's wavy.

  • @iiLoveuhable2 in the book her hair is straight fyi.

  • @xj3ssica fyi i just finished reading the book

  • i laughed 4 5 mins afta the slap/hug its not something tht normally happens lol

  • i have an essay due next week and im watching this instead

  • This is a really good movie, the book was too. Had to read it in English.

  • Love this story... Love it!

  • i love tha book and tha movie nd im just watching this for fun... oh well i guess you could call me a nerd! lols :)

  • Halle Berry is not that good of an actress!!

  • Great movie, but the book was BETTER!!!

  • this is a good movie!! but it wont be if your NOT MATURE! if u arent mature.. then you can forget about it

  • im watching this for an english class because i read the book and had difficulty understanding it. does anyone know how accurate this is to the book?

  • @MrCarbonAtom Not very accurate. I read this book and loved it. Try reading it again and you'll understand it more.

  • Watching this for African American Lit class :)

  • i never saw the movie, so i am about to watch it, i didn't think it was a book out on it, but lets see how the movie is, i always thought about the movie in my head and i'm on here to see what's it's all about and so i typed it in and hopefully the whole movie is going to play, but i will comment on it, when it' done.......LOOKS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE GOOD, JUST STARTED THE MOVIE..!

  • I love Halle in this role. She could play 17 or 44, which is exactly what the role calls for. I wish the movie had been made a bit more like the book, especially the emphasis on her view of the bee pollenating the flower and how that affected how she thought of love, happiness, and marriage. I also wish they'd kept the opening narration monologue from Janie(the first 2-3 paragraphs of the book) the same.

  • Oh my god, that grandmother's scream nearly gave me a heart attack! O_O

  • She looks older than sixteen ... The book said she was sixteen

  • @hadeehuat, no she was in her forties by the time she came back home after what happened to teacake. this is the end the rest is a flashback

  • This movie is nowhere near close to the book, lol. One of the first lines Janie says here is like, "There's two things people got to find out about theyselves [...] love and theyselves". The original line in the book was "God and themselves", not love. Also, Pheoby's opinion on Tea Cake greatly differs from the book's. Don't bother using the movie for notes. Just read the book, it's better.

  • i saw da movie b4 i read da book... i hav 2 read it 4 English AP but it has alotta inacuracies but i absolutely luv da movie

  • is this close to the book????

  • @025cn it is kind of close to the book... but You'd be better off using sparknotes...

  • is this close to the book???

  • how many times this movie was shown on Hallmark and I never got to see it full. Thank you miaevt for posting it on youtube

  • I love me some Ruby Dee. She is an excellent actress!!!!

  • I cannot understand this book it is very complicated to read. I can remember what their saying is in the book I'm just watching the movie so I wouldn't feel quilty

  • Halle ain't all dat

  • @toretsblaby Don't hate. Halle is very beautiful woman and a damn good actress too.

  • why did halle berry cut her hair its beautifull

  • @Lovingirl80 Sorry, but this here is NOT her hair.

  • @Lovingirl80 it's weave,but it is beautiful

  • For more about Zora's life when she was writing this, view the Soul of a People: Writing America's Story trailer.

  • Halle Berry is juss too beautiful...damn!!!

  • Amazing movie. Michael Ealy is HOT!!

  • very goood movie

  • Florida is fucking hot in Summer.

  • wasn't john taylor white?

  • my god we had to read this book for english, and it woulda been better if we had just watched this

  • Keep spaming 8:16 XD btw it should be made into a meme or something!

  • she smacked her, then hugged her rite after lol

  • @Breeze1495 that trip me out too

  • I thought Janie was supposed to be old in the beginning/end of the novel?

  • @XcXuXoXnXgX she is, thts why the lady said u look like ur own daughter

  • im righting a report and this movie really helped

  • The book is stupid

  • Their Eyes Were Watching God is one of the greatest jewels of American liteature...it deserves much better than a Lifetime movie.

  • @ABookwormAndProud I wholeheartedly agree, however if this is the best that could be done to give this great work an airing well...here's to the back of the damn bus! "NgaiO"

  • @ABookwormAndProud Definitely does... definitely cut out the scene where jamie rubs one out lol. this book is raunchy

  • just read this book for english....i loved it =)

  • Just finished reading this book for school like 5 minutes ago....soooo freakin' sad at the end :'(

  • @MJNumberOneForever i agree

  • The first part is but in the middle of the book the movie changes

  • Is this movie accurate with the book?

  • @deatht0ken yess it is.

  • @deatht0ken Whole parts are missing

  • @jaynemarieusa, hallelujah! How can a Spirit have color? But its ok. Color does not matter as long as we worship Him for who and what He is: Creator of everyone and everything. He is the Great I AM, First and Last, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Shalom, He is Agape love, a love which surpasses all understanding for His rainbow of children.

  • @SyrenniaLestrange ...............im a teenaged asian chick............................ but yeah, i know that most books are better as books...... anything that came first is generally better; like a book or comic or something x3

  • Love this movie and book <3

  • mi ingles es escaso y malo, seria posible que lo subieras subtitulado en español

  • Janie is so beautiful.

  • oh dear, i read the book in two days and it was so hard cause the author wrote out the pronounciations when they spoke D:

i was all "I DONT UNDERSTAND" D: so i had to read it out loud and my parents were like "STOP TRYING TO DO A SOUTHERN ACCENT, YOU'RE FAILING"

and i was all "I'M READING A BOOK"

    "STOP LYING"

    xD

  • @thestreakingninja hahaha. i like you :)

  • i just read this book in class and did a paper on it

  • When she asked "To Johnny Taylor"? What emotion was that surprised relieved or disappointment??

  • hate the book, first impression of movie i hate, and hate having to do all this for english

  • Great story by Zora Neale Hurston.

  • This looks like Beloved.

  • does anyone know the name to the song that starts playing?

  • the actress who plays Pheobe is really pretty.

  • 8:13 holly fuck

  • @codeman127 hahaha yeah mee to

  • @codeman127 is it for ur IB

  • I love how Rudy Dee says "You don't even know what harm is girl".

  • I really love this movie..

  • I wish "black" movies would tell the truth we "negros" are not just abused slaves but Isralight Jew .

  • @dedrawilliams lmao... bruh, u don't think people know? as much biblical and secular evidence there is out there, people just deny it. i've seen it time and time again.

  • this is a good movie! i wish i could find a guy like tea cake. he was good looking, considerate, loving, and he did what most men now-a-days forget. he knew how to love a woman. (sigh)

  • The book version of this is much better.

  • tea cake is supposed to be darkskinned....can the movie get this right and show some appreciation for our fine dark skinned brothas!

  • @kenene08 Thank you sumbody agrees with me

  • @17sunnyhour thats right

  • @hatsforyou100

i don't think there is a successful actress in hollywood who is dark skinned, wonder why?

  • @17sunnyhour there re indeed,

  • @hatsforyou100

I don't think there is a successful actress in Hollywood who is dark skinned, wonder why?

  • @17sunnyhour sadly true, Viola Davis and Kimberly Elise are getting a lot of recognition though

  • Comment removed

  • @islandflor

They can not compete with Halley Berry!

  • @17sunnyhour aesthetically , not really, but as talent goes, i believe viola davis is a far better actress than miss Berry!... and Kimberly Elise would come before her as well.

  • @islandflor

How many black females do you see in lead roles, in films such as Wedding Crashers, Fantastic Four, and Transformers?

  • @kenene08 I feel you on that my brotha

  • @kenene08 Should've gotten Morris Chestnut or Idris Elba. yummmm, but Michael Ealy did do his thing

  • @kenene08 amen to thatr lmbo

  • @kenene08 can u get right and realize we are a people of color. Key word "color"

  • @kenene08 The same type of casting was done for Precious; in the book the character that Paula Patton played was dark skinned with dreadlocks.

  • this movie is great but the book had my imagination going crazy. being from florida made the book extra special too

  • Michael Ealy 's Sooooo fuckingg sexyyyyy ; omg

  • @PeaceMonie7 That isn't a Black women thing, it is a women thing. We can just be some hatin assed bitches. Really we can.

  • havent read the book yet ....but i love this movie to death ! <3 ....inspiring....o so inspiring <3

  • Obviously they can't put everything into the movie. It would be too long.

  • Yea The Book is Better In The Movie They Leave Out Too Much ! The Grandmas Story From When She Was A Slave && Chapter 6 Which They Dedicated To A Mule !

  • sho nuff looks like miss starks

  • holly crape we r learning this in schol

  • As much as I love Halle Berry, this movie was HORRIBLE!!!! I read the book 12 times! I understand a movie cant recapture everything a novel is but the movie simplifies and (soap opera ) the novel. Its very unfortunate

  • lol... how you gon bitch slap someone and then hug em .... lol

  • I'm reading this book in class right now, and i heard they had a movie so i had to peep it out. I'm really not a fan of the "Renaissance talk" , yet its a best seller. I just wish it was written in modern English so i don't have to read the "Renaissance talk" twice..lolol....but so far watching it i seen some differences, the book is more passionate to me, the movie is more hurry hurry...

  • @ladybluu

    What's Renaissance talk?

  • @PatsBooks slave talk, this was happening during renaissance era

  • I love the dialect. I'm from the south, family mainly from small town Georgia, so it really makes me think of my family and all the old uncles and aunts.

I tried getting my boyfriend to read the book, but he couldn't because the dialect was too much for him to see past.

  • @CheckerBoardPants

I agree. I'm a Southerner. What's makes the book some beautiful to me is the language.

  • Man that was good I'm glad that you all have posted the movie on here because it is one of my favorite books and I love the movie too.

  • her grandma a Hater lmaoo

  • i watched it last nite, good movie. very sad ending.

  • @TheYusmina What's wrong with you? Why would you tell people in the first 10 minutes what to expect?

  • so this movie has been posted here all this TIME???!!! I am absolutely livid!

  • i love this film so much....thanks for uploading

  • You are correct @DstunnaShip09 the enslaved were robbed of their language and had to learn to speak "correct" english from somewhere.
