They changed record companies because they wanted more freedom, to produce their own music, and no restrictions. I actually like the old songs better when he sings instead of screams them....although Matts screaming always sounded more, I don't know, "musical" then most of the other screaming vocalists I heard. At any rate whether or not one can still scream, it will still fuck up your vocal chords after a few months of doing it each night so it's not the smartest thing to do as a singer. It WAS a conscious descision 4 him not 2 do it after WTF, probably an artistic one as well as a career lengthening one

M Shadows told the media that he blew out his vocal chords but then the producer said it was bullshit, funny that I have the magazine from 2005 that states M. Shadows in the interview going into detail about A7X having to cancel shows in 2004 due to vocal issues with his chords, you can probably find a live video from 2004 and hear his screaming is strained and dirty sounding, I remember in 06 I checked it out and his screaming was damaged
