  • many of the greats have their versions of Smokey's masterpiece....and Justin version is - great.

  • he sings from the soul...he misses his soul mate from another time and place...a love that could never be...and it will scare his soul forever until they meet again...how sad....he was probably a knight hundreds of years ago...

  • How precious.

  • Love the Moody Blues and Justin Hayward. Don't love the Classic Blue album. Sorry, it's a misstep. Not the songs or his singing but the heavy orchestral backing. It ruins everything. Why not Justin just acoustic with a guitar? that would have been great. He's long overdue for a genuine "unplugged" album. There were a few tracks from the Capistrano Live Concert album but it wasn't enough. Mr. Hayward, if you'happen to read this - Please do it!

  • I saw this live with Mike Batt singing backing vocals while conducting the orchestra. Never seen anyone do that before or since!

  • love all of Justin's songs, but none of his covers, (especially this one); it sounds odd hearing Justin sing anything other than what he has written; it seems false, unnecessary; yet, in covering the song of other artist's, Justin does pay a special tribute to the songs and songwriters

  • Jag älskar låten..i love the song...Justin rules

  • Embarrassing....lol

  • not as good as Smokey

  • You might not like Vincent, it's a song about Vincent Van Goh, his life as an artist & his sad end at his own hand, but that's your right. I like to listen to Frank Sinatra, but he ain't all I listen to, that's why I'm listening to the Moody Blues at the moment, & this has led to some stuff that Justin Hayward did solo that I haven't seen before, & I gotta tell you, I'm impressed! I hope Smokey has seen this.

  • This CD is one of my favorites. All except "Vincent" and that's only due to the fact I HATE the song. Period. "As Long As The Moon Can Shine" made up for it, tho....

  • 5 stars !

  • wonderful share redbaron :)

  • Hello Joyce,

I think Justin did a great job on this and thank you for posting it my friend!

    Hugs, Floyd

Thank you Wolfgang for the wonderful share my friend!!

  • wat the frick is dat lol. seriously...lol...my gudness lol. wud understand if he wrote d song lol..but nooooo fella

  • Oh, my goodness! He just destroyed the song!!! Hopelly there are other versions to make it justice.

  • sweet jesus that sucked. like really bad.

  • my smile is my make-up i wear since my break-up with you.

  • After seeing the wonderful Adam Lambert perform a very similarly restrained version of this song in American Idol, I thought if I could see and hear these two gorgeous and talented men duet this beautiful song, I would think I'd died and gone to heaven a thousand times in three minutes.

  • Love his version. Thanks Justin. We love you in CA.

  • Piss and Moan Piss and Moan!

I have never heard anything by Justin Hayward i did not enjoy. I get the feeling if he gave most of you a million dollars, you would bitch that it had a stain on it.

No it does not sound like Smokey Robinson's version. It ain't Smokey! DUH!

If everyone sang everything alike, oh what a screwed up boring world this would be. Alright it is screwed up, but it could be worse. Get a life! Quit yer bitchin!

  • @danrcurtis

You are dead right. I can recall hearing Smokey's songs as a preteen before the Drive-in movie started. I actually did not like Smokey until High School 1966-1970. Justin's version is pure Justin. I hope he does other favorites. You can feel the effort he puts into all his songs. Remember that Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin sang their versions of our 50's-70's songs well.

  • The guy has a good voice but I don't like the orchestra. Its takes a lot away from the song.

  • It helps if you knew that Smokey Robinson sung with 3 others singers in the original...

  • He's taking all the soul out of a classic!! Too monotone!

  • What? The guy has the most sensitive voice that ever drew breath.

  • Rexincano--you must be tone deaf. This mans voice is fantastic!!!

  • I love the Classic Blue CD because of the voice. However, I think orchestration was a bit overdone. I would love to hear Justin do some great covers like these with the Moodies.

  • No, I'd rather not see the Moodies do covers. December was awful with the exception of 'December Snow'.

  • Great Version among many great interpretations of this song

  • Love Justins version...at least he sings it with sencerity.

  • fek200's comment made me laugh out loud. must be a big moody blues fan.

  • hey! justin could sing mary had a little lamb with feeling. yes i am a true blue moody fan (no pun intended) forever moodys yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rexicano stinks.

  • Nobody does it near as good as Johnny Rivers. This version stinks. Elevator musak.

  • This is the best version of this song ever.

  • Justin My Dream....Justin Stay Forever....Beautiful.... As A.... Super Nova.....Legendary Man....I Am Beguiled....Justin My Dream....Justin Stay Forever....

  • That voice! Wow! I love everything this man does. Style, class. Amazing! I bought the Classic Blue album on tape when i was a teen. I bought it again on c.d. beautiful voice. Beautiful music. Hey i found a Mike Batt & friends c.d in the discount bin, 'Tarot Suite.'

Lady of the dawn is a gr8 song! Check it out ppl Haha.

  • justin is amazing love the song vocals fine proud of you and the moody blues seen them live never let you down rock on

  • I do luv this video! Jus is at his most gorgeous and he really has soul! BRILLIANT!!! LOVELY!!!!

  • Lovely Justin...I totally enjoyed your version of this classic...Thanks again for sharing MoodiesFan...

  • bg, you have to give him credit .. a white Englishman singing Smokey's song (perhaps misguided?). I like "Classic Blue", esp. Justin singing "Whiter Shade of Pale."

  • ssems abit forced, i'm not a fan of the album

he LOOKS great of course, that profile WOW!

  • is a beautiful song, smokey robinson's original was great, this is also lovely, justin hayward does it beautifully

  • Smokey voice is better

  • so nice!

  • Incredible!...What a gift!...Thank you!...zenlad

  • tanks a lot!

  • Okay, I'm guessing 80s? early 90s? Surely it's not more recent than that, you think? Makes me wonder why Justin decided to do a cover version instead of one of his numerous originals. Does anyone know details about this performance?

  • Its from 1989, his release of Classic Blue is all covers except a remake of Forever Autumn,a few tracks include Vincent,Scarborough Fair, God Only Knows, if i recall the songs were voted through members of The MB fan club.

  • Where can I get a voice like Justin's? Amazon? PLEASE!

  • Justis the sweetest guy ever! CandleLight you are SO right!

  • I wouldn't say it's better than the original but it's just as good. This guy could sing the ingredients on a crisp packet and give them meaning.

  • As usual Justin show how classy he is....this version is better than the original. He gives this song the meaning,

  • Again - thank you Moodiesfan for this rare videos hope you have others to show !!

  • Wonderful!!

    I want more,more,more!

    Justins voice is so fantastic.

Thank you Moodiesfan for this rare videos!

  • Wow, finding all sorts of things I haven't seen before. And I thought I'd seen everything by Justin Hayward and The Moodies!
