  • Its funny I have a miniature and a two giants, and the giants actually get along better with small children than the miniature one does.

  • Schnauzers in general are a good family breed like many other dogs I just have a special place in my heart for these gusy :)

  • Giant breeds are the best breeds ever! They play nice and they are soo gentle! I have a great dane and the only problem I have is when she's backing up, she should beep like trucks do...lol! but other than that she's our baby! Plays nice with the kids, neighbors and other dogs as well... nothing bad to say!

  • Love those eyebrows!!

  • i was waiting for the dog to say..... I understand -. -

  • My mini Schnauzer got scared of my little niece because she was wearing a snow suit ...and she bit her cheek..We were holding the dog but she just slip out of our hands so quickly !!! Since that day , my dog can't stand young kids.

  • @Rebapep That is because it's a mini. Small dogs rarely get a long with children. You should get a large breed if you plan on having kids.

  • The giant would never do anything to the kid, it knows that she's part of the pride and protect her. As scuttermax said they know their job...and they're highly intelligent

  • @maexs201 Pride? You mean pack. :P:P But you are right, Giant Schnauzers (not mini's) are fantastic around children. So long as they have been trained and exercised :P. The only issue I find with Schnauzers is their natural attraction to using teeth in order to communicate. It's hard to break that cycle, but once you do they are very rewarding animals ^_^.

  • we have a giant schnauzer too :) i like her VERY much cause sch never bit me or my friends or each other as i was a child i think i pull on her ear but she dont do anything!

  • Yes I would leave my grandkids 2,5,7,14 with my GS.The kids do what they want with him sent he was 13week old now 1 1/2yr. they grab pull ride him, blow in ears.jack well not bite.never has. jack play with the kids, sleep swim play in snow.If kids are doing something at they shouldnt he well come get me.I tust my GS with any kids. MY 2&5 walk him.If one fall down he well sit and wait until they are up&ok.The kids has doermans at home can:t play with them like they play with GS.It breeder

  • I would never leave a dog alone with a child. Ever. I am very close in this video and I was watching the whole time.

  • @Stacey80620 You have a great dog..from the looks of it, it can be your baby's mentor :D

  • @chickenpax1 Rosie was a great dog. I am sad to say she left us not long after this video was taken in the summer of 2009. Megan however has grown up to be a great dog friend and has already raised 2 litters of puppies and is working on her third for after the first of the year. She loves the dogs.

  • Can Giants be left alone with kids? I was reading this thing posted by a rescue that said you can't leave a kid with a giant or small dogs, which I think is probably farfetched. But I'd personally love to get one to protect my first home, it jus gotta get along with my two smaller dogs.

  • @nikigurl08 Why would you leave any kid alone? Dog or not.

In the case of a dog... NO! Sometimes it's for the protection of the dog and not the kid. Obviously "Mom", in this video, is with the baby. I'm willing to bet "Mom" isn't a novice dog owner either. The dog is well behaved in the video and seems comfortable around the new pack member.

  • @Shakermaker1995 Im not talkin about a baby. Im sayin like if you had a 5 yr old and you go to grab the mail. Geez im not sayin make the dog a freakin babysitter, or leave a young child alone for hours!!

  • @nikigurl08 It all in the breeder.I read that to but I tell you that they are wrong!! I have a HistyleGS.I have grandkids2,5,7,14 and 2mini schnauzer. And they all play and other thing to.And we are go back to Histyle for another GS.Its all in the training. Beside the breeder..

  • i had a giant schnauzer when my brother was a baby. They are SO good with little kids.

  • awww so cute! That schnauzer is so beautiful and gentle! So lovely baby and dog!:)

  • Our kids love our Giants and vice - versa.

No stranger will get a chance to approach the kids.

    Giants know their job.

  • Thank you!!

Rosie was almost 10 years old when she had to become accustomed to a two legged roommate. She seems to have adjusted well.

Megan is starting to learn their names and call them by name as well.

  • cuties! :D

We have a giant schnauzer too, but no children, we are planning to be pregnant, :D
