I was in Y.t.s when that one female staff got killed and thrown in a dumpster. they found her body at the dump outside the facility; we were on lockdown and chino p.d. were on the grounds searching for her, it was an M#s who did it so they transfered all the M#'s over to chino prison.

Needs to all start at home and in the communities...I was a counselor at CYA and those kids are way messed up by the time we got them. They need to bring back community based organizations to engage these guys while they are young, like midnight basketball, mentoring programs...counties need to use their money to monitor the social programs

H.S diplomas were available, LaVerne A.A and B.A degrees, quite a few trades, all of the team sports, psyche and drug counseling.... I payed for my crime, but it doesnt make it right for the staff to comit crimes on us. Everything from mase and beatings to cruel punishment like Gym TD we where just kids!. Gym TD was being handcuffed and layed out on a gym floor from 3 to 10 days! and im puting it lightly. Im part of that 7 percent that made it ! The other 93% is out there making victims! I'm a former CYA ward, I 've been locked up for almost 7 and half years, There are good staff and crooked staff. Not what you see is all true. I've been in there since I was 15 until I was 22, I had lost all my teenage years. CYA is how you make it. Regardless of the fact, we are no angels. When you do a crime, you do the time, it is what you make it I've seen it all from the fightings to riots, the packings and the rapings. CYA made me become a man. My YA # is 70498.. 1994-2001..

@ben5017 For me, this is more about people having either too many kids, or having kids before they are prepared. Even is our system was perfect, the gov. can only do so much. As an adult, it is my responsibility to prepare myself, educate myself.......so that I can approach parenthood being fully aware of the commitment. Ultimately, the adults in these kids lives FAILED, therefore their children are at a higher risk to fail.
