What has to happen, is that petroleum must be conserved and eventually be phased out as a fuel.
Otherwise, in ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty years time, the demand for fuel will outstrip the amount we are pumping, and we will have a collapse that will make this one seem like a stroll through a dewey meadow.
The prices are going to get much higher. Don't be surprised when China buys up. There's A LOT of oil in the U.S. Utah, Alaska, California, Louisiana, Texas... we shouldn't be importing it from anywhere at all.

The reports of acid throwing? We're discussing isolated incidents. Throwing acid in girls' faces is not normal Islamic culture any more than poisoning your spouse, building human pyramids, and collecting Japanese skulls is normal Western culture.
Bin Laden only claimed responsibility in 2004, 3 years after the US invaded; he initially denied responsibility. The Taliban was willing to negotiate but needed evidence. The US refused.

Well we obviously have a difference ofopinion concerning the facts. Bin Laden claimed responsibility well before '04, shortly after the attack. Even if he denied it, there were still the attack on the trade center in '93 and the attack on the USS Cole as well as other incedents. More than enough to extradite him.

Al Qaeda is only one of many terrorist organizations opposed to the US. The US had no extradition treaty with Afghanistan. Refusal to grant extradition on request does not warrant invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation. The US refuses to grant extradition on a regular basis.

If you attack a military vessel or military complex (ie The Pentagon) you're not going to be handcuffed and brought before a judge as a common criminal. There has to be a point when "enough is enough" and 9-11 was just that. You don't realize the military-style planning and logistics it took to carry out that plan. More influential people need to speak up. Families I work with as counselor in nyc publc schools R 2 busy fighting their own wars of survivalpaying bills, fighting the streets, dealing with dysfunction in familial relationships. They are SPENT. Theyre against war if u ask, but they R 2 busy workng so they can keep those Jordans on their kids feet. However, reinstate the draft, & maybe theyll find a voice 4 politics. My high schoolers all say theyd rather be jailed. They would refuse to go.

Blocking domestic drilling in environmentally sensitive areas, like Alaska, where the arctic environment is (a) easily damaged and (b) more likely to cause spills.
And doing so will INCREASE dependency on oil, when what we need is more efficient vehicles, made possible with modern technology. (you can drive clean across Europe on one tank with some European cars)

There is a MASSIVE amount of money to be made in speculation, simply driving up the price of vital commodities like oil because people will ALWAYS need these commodities.
I say, get the speculators OUT of the market, and keep the prices up with a tax on fuel. Then we conserve the fuel, while still giving the incentive to buy more efficient cars.

That was CERTAINLY the case in the 70s, but the oil spike of a couple of years ago was the result of rampant speculation as speculators started dumping the subprime mortgage bonds.

Possibly not raise the price of fuel immediately, but maybe start a program of incremental fuel price increases, coupled with tax breaks on fuel efficient cars.
What has to happen, is that petroleum must be conserved and eventually be phased out as a fuel.
Otherwise, in ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty years time, the demand for fuel will outstrip the amount we are pumping, and we will have a collapse that will make this one seem like a stroll through a dewey meadow.

The prices are going to get much higher. Don't be surprised when China buys up. There's A LOT of oil in the U.S. Utah, Alaska, California, Louisiana, Texas... we shouldn't be importing it from anywhere at all.
btw. Soros finances the left winged non-profits who are doing this, and he's got a lot of stake in Petrobias in Brazil, or stock symbol PBR.
These non-profits hate Exxon, they work for Dr. Evil Soros.

Of course they are going to get higher. The light sweet crude from Texas Saudi Arabia and Iraq is not going to last forever. The heavier oils are harder and more expensive to refine, and tar sand is even more expensive.
Couple this with intense speculation, and you are going to have a second, far bigger spike.
