  • why does he not say step 4? He counts 1,2,3,5,6,7.

  • Are you just basically walking forward and backwards?

  • @zourato92 yes and no. The steps are like walking in that you're moving forward and backwards but with each step you sort of glide, no "stepping" or 'bouncing" as the instructor uses. With this sort of glide and in trying to keep you head leveled and even, your hips end up doing that sway that's typical of salsa, merengue and bachata.

  • you can go from salsa dancing tutorials to the strangest, weirdest shit on youtube...

  • BEST TEACHER ON YOUTUBE!!!!! I TRIED SO MANY DIFFERENTS VIDEOS NOTHING LIKE THIS AND REALLY FAST LEARNING, THIS DUDE IS AMAZING!!!!

  • What's the name of that salsa song that starts off the video? I know it starts off just like that, and then there in an amazing piano piece that follows it!

  • Greets from Colombia, thanks for uploading this :)

  • where did 4 go?

  • @lostcoz99 The count of 4 and 8 are pauses in these steps. Check out our beginner basic steps videos.

  • bored!!!!!

  • CHEVERE, super interesting ... I willlearn alot already since I am latina

  • Comment removed

  • i never learned this way, its something you learn from youth or else you look like this guy counting! and there are no rules! just follow the beat and have fun!

  • OMG STFU AND DANCE

  • why the fuck do everyone skip 4 every time they count from 1 through 7

  • @twopaddles1 the four is silent because it's a pause. technically it's a count from 1-8 so 1,2,3 pause,5,6,7 pause the four and eight are silent pauses we count this way to remember to pause.

  • @InFlameProduction

    thnx for the clarity!

  • Interesting.... never seen a dance without a 4

  • @Weebonilass it's to emphesize the pause in the middlie .. Like 1 2 3 .. 567 and so on :)

  • Anthony is hot.

  • too many words...and ahhs and oohs. trim the words, be more concise, and the videos will be fantastic

  • But I want her to bounce! hell yeaaa

  • hmmm note to self: don't scare the ladies TOO much...

  • hi this is an insult to a carpark gas, my name is anthony, lol

  • did he say at the start hi this is an insult to a carpark gas? lol sounds like it o.o

  • good points ! thanks ! nice to see the "on 2 and 123- 567 showed as well .

  • best teacher ever. cuz he EXPLAINS EVERYTHING

  • man i know how to count but where is 4 u skip it or just dont count it

  • @Jirus4

In salsa 4 is a pause. You usually don't count it. So it is 1,2,3 - pause (which is 4) - 5,6,7.

  • WOW!!! my husband says i have two left feet and i have to addmitt I DO!! this video really really helped me. Actually it was the instructor that helped me because first i learned the basic steps on his first video then leaned how to spice it up with the right arms movements and how far you should step out. Thank you Anthony!!

  • I hate the hispanic salsa where somone is literally just throwing you around-__-

  • You talk to much, and nothing about theory... Sorry!! But that's why peoples are dancing like robots!!

to dance Salsa you have to move all your body rhythmical to the music!

You have to move head, shoulder, arms, hands, chest, waist, hip, legs and foot.. coordinated with the rhythm.

  • sameone tell me what happened to step 4 i only see or here 1,2,3, 5,6,7, or is that how you counts alsa steps?

  • @1MrAztk No Counts 4 and 8 (because its an 8 count) they are pauses... So aren't usually counted for... Pretty much when you do counts 1, 2, and 3 then you see him transition to 5, 6, and 7 the in between step is considered count 4 and the same for going from 5,6,7 back to 1,2,3... That in between transition/pause is count 8. Hope I helped and didnt confuse you at all.

  • "...and that will make her body bounce..." sounds good to me! :P

  • @xxRick305xx But when the salsa music comes on hes the one with the line of girls waiting to dance with him so..... :/

  • Not bad for a very simple lesson not for intermediate level though. Some info..First break on the 2 or 5 dont flat foot it, dont step on a weighted foot the transfer is syncopated and ball-flat, the hands are controlled by the torso like waves, your torso is way to stiff like 90% of the salsa dancers, hands are cupped for beginner but used like an instrument for the rest, use more torso and hips and roll the shoulders to turn the arms over, arms stay in between the bellybutton chest. etc...

  • o wow ur great thx 4 dah video

  • THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH ! I PICKED UP HES AN EXCELLENT TEACHER SERIOUSLY ! IM SO HAPPY NOW THHANK YOUUUUUUUU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOES HE TEACH CLASSES OR ANYTIHNG ID LOVE TO GO !

  • Cool title to this video, man, what a hair-raiser =:-)

  • In salsa, there is no fourth or eighth count, it's what's called a "pausa", or a pause. All good salsa dancers know this.

  • thanks man, thanks

  • 5:06-5:12 he forgot 4 lol

    good stuff though

  • 4 is a pause, you don' count that as a movement is salsa

  • Fuck! I am so fuckin bored and look where my boredom brought me to. -Grabs gun-

  • and then you get 6 and then 7 and move 5 and then... and thenn.....

  • u missed the 4 right? nice vid :)

  • my point of view. is how you feel the rithm you will move you own body.

  • great video, but I CANT BLUMIN' DANCE!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrr :P

  • nice explantn...

  • AWESOME DUDE----- perfect explanations - perfect amount of talk.

You have just boosted my salsa!!!!!

  • @mrmrhollingsworth i agree it's a good video, but too much talk in my opinion.

    i'm enjoying these videos though

  • I agree.. he talks too much!...

  • i watch your videos and really like them could you post the song and artist of the music in each video that would be awesome thx.

  • :D:D

  • Great tutorial! Thanks. I have been dancing for several years, but its always useful to get back to the basics

  • Amazing Clarity in what he says. Like adicted2salsa a lot . Cheerios . Keep up the great work .

  • very good :D

  • Very helpfull,and usefull,....I love it much,,,

  • This video is clearly for white people LOL .

  • What he's saying is very important. What if your 4th grade teacher just wrote multiplication on the board and nvr explained it? Just listen to him it helps.

  • duuuuudee more dancing and less talkiiing

  • This video is very useful for a person, who has already taken a beginners class in salsa. It´s very difficult to handle all the information at the beginning, but with a help with this information clip it does let the beginner understand more about dancing salsa. I like it very much! :)

  • Thanks to you I learned this basic steps jaja, it was confusing for me to move my hand and feet correctly but I did it and I'm putting it to practice soon, thanks for your video =)

  • Salsa! I know how to dance it I am just looking to see if I can get any thing new out of this vid. So far i did. Great video!

  • damn advertisement

  • Are there many people that are bouncing like that?

    XD

  • From 4:25 - 4:52

He skips step 4 and goes to step 5. So does that means there are only 6 steps to do a natural basic step? Or did I miss something?

  • @Infectedwithboredom

He doesn't say the "4," but it's the beat when his feet are in the "neutral" position- right before he goes backward. I hope that helps!

  • shut up pussy

  • If you want to look natural , dance from the heart not the mind!

  • whta kind the style is this colombian or cuba oh other?

  • Dude, you are AWESOME for makng this! Thank you so much!!! ^^

  • 13 people have left feet.

  • thank you, i love it, but even better as 5min videos. a 5min limit would make them perfect.

  • Problems with my hands:

    1. my shoulders move like when I'm running. how to fix it?

    2. when you "sweep the chest" with your fists, it look nice, when I do it, it looks like I have scratching the dirt from my chest. Any tips?

  • ooooh i wanna learn with him!!!

  • THIS IS A VERY GOOD EXPLANATION!!!!!!

  • with this teacher you will learn maybe in 5 years.

  • @bocachico69 noo way in one year you can be good trust me.

  • so i like that you talk a lot when you teach, it helps me :)

im hispanic but i never caught on to salsa & now im getting better .. thankyaaa ;) <3

now i can keep up with my fams .

  • Dodu i love u no homo... I can dance now thank u

  • charity cars

  • Congratulations for all the amazing work that you are doing Anthony...!! You've choosed yourself a great mission...!! ;-) With millions of viewers around the world you are the mother Teresa of Salsa...!!!

Great explanations, and the patterns can really be applied at the club...!

Keep it on, and many thanks...!!!

  • Fantastic! Love how detailed and complete he is. I just started learning and found this video a great help to take that awkward bounce out of my step.

  • Thank you so much for the explanation, it really helped my understanding of the moves.

  • well done. learned something new 2 day!

  • Nice refinement to the basic.

  • I like the way fumar yerba in ther morning.

  • Takes practice. I feel like I'm doing the truffle shuffle.

  • thanx Anthoni ,I found myself in salsa

  • @xxRick305xx you need a larger vocabulary.

  • @apersaud ur a homosexual

  • u r not

  • On tha2 Eddie Torres

  • @carlitosx21 Feel free to record yourself teaching the basic step and share it with us so that we can see what we have done wrong. Thanks.

  • @apersaud Lol good answer. I personally dnt know how to dance salsa so to me it looks good.

  • justin tuoldles to u

  • @carlitosx21 you are still bothering him? You have no life but to look for videos & try to bother other people that may have more experience & more practice to things. Please if you're so sure of his incorrections please show us. We'd love to look. I think he dances fine. & I've used his steps to parties & people compliment my dancing because of him. Thanks by the way ^_^. This was helpful

  • @XxSpontaneousKiddoxX Thank you for your kinds words! :-)

  • whell u wrong 2 he just is helping rude people like u dance!!!!!!!!

  • @carlitosx21 It is one of the salsa basics, aka mambo basic. You're probably dancing cuban, which opens back.

  • @carlitosx21 keep your negative comments to yourself, dont be mean and cruel to other people. these people probably know more than you.

  • Appreciate the videos.

  • this is too hard! LOL

  • Super good video! :) Very nice explanation ;)

  • easy! :)

  • Maybe a dumb question, but why aren't you counting the 4..? I mean.. 1 2 3, 5 6 7?? Where's the four??

  • @bugtest The counts 4 and 8 are considered pauses in the steps. It is general convention to only count the numbers which actually have steps to them. We have a beginner video that explains the basics.

  • @apersaud Dude your a beast! I just saw your social dance video. You look much more free when your dance without giving the lesson. I find your videos very useful. I'm "on 2 "myself so I just watch them with the volume truned off so I don't confuse myself. Do you sell dvds?

  • Wasup Anthony! Thnx for the video :) ....it was cool to see an explanation to doing a more "natural salsa step". The whole "front-and-back" step is ok at first, but it makes one look like a beginner. YouTube has a lot of video tutorials of pple teaching the basic step. Yet, when I see pple dancing salsa their never doing the "front-and-back" step, so it was cool to finally see an explanation to a more "natural salsa" step. Thanks a mil!!

  • Exactly what is the difference from being on 1 to being on 2 will it be the tempo of the song?

  • it's a good class but he talks too much...

  • @Goulart54 People have different ways of learning; I explain my steps in detail so there is no 'magic' or guess work for viewers. You can always turn the volume off when watching the video.

  • @apersaud don't mind the bad comments.... only frustrated people... thanks for the video and the too much talking!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @apersaud EXACTLY WHAT I DID

  • @Goulart54

By far the best online dance lessons I have received.. If you really want to learn dancing in an easy and entertaining way, I suggest you try:

    -

    budurl (.) com/idance

  • @watchaeso1 yes these videos on youtube are good. i been practicing for 4 months already and i have improved alot.

  • @Goulart54 Your a fucking moron, this is the best Salsa lesson ive seen... all the other leave yo hanging on what you really need to know, and here it is... while you comment it telling him not to talk. GOOD LUCK IN LIFE MORON!

  • @EpidEriC I agree this video is very good!

  • @Goulart54 agreed

  • @Goulart54 Yep: So; you move your arm, so; the arm is the left thing here on your body, so, the body is the part you are dancing with; so, a part is a piece of something, so, .... etc... This is for sure monkey-proof. But strill very good.

  • @SledgeHammer6699 and your mother groaning under, sofb

  • @Goulart54 not so frustrated, gringo...

  • at 7:52 i think it would have helped if u faced the wall....i couldnt help but mix up my left and right

    =p

  • @LiiVExNxLETxLiiVE I was facing a wall. We have another video where we show the basic step from a different angle (with heels to the camera).

  • thanks anthony your videos are greats

  • This one is just great! Adding more style to basics and improving them is crucial for upgrades. :) Keep em coming! :)

  • Where is the step No 4? 1,2,3,5,6,7?...

  • @Darja008 4 and 8 are in mid-air, following the rhythm of the music. This is the first time I've ever seen a salsa dancer move the 6 On1. 2 and 6 are in place. The other steps should be equal in length. Otherwise the lead will not be smooth. Also, the lead's 5 (On1) should be on the ball of your foot. Otherwise, you will not reach the 7 on time because your weight will be too far back on 5. There's much more nuanced technique to the basic but that requires a personal trainer. Hope this helps.

  • whats the ball of my foot?

  • The padded portion of the sole of the human foot between the toes and the arch, on which the weight of the body rests when the heel is raised. — source: The Free Dictionary, by Farlex. If you fly up to Seattle, we can train you in much deeper detail.

  • different country buddy... thanx though

  • Check out Alma Latina. They're great instructors and have one of the best performance teams in the world. And they have a school in Mexico.

  • ill do that thanks for the tip

  • @Darja008 It's the traditional counts for salsa. It's easier to keep the salsa rhythm with an even 3 count.

  • 4 is a pause dude between (yeah you now it) 3 and 5

  • perfect teaching

  • wow thanks so much 4 this video

  • thanks for help!! a las personas sin ritmo como io jjejejeje!!!

  • thank you!!!!! you really help.

  • we did these sort of steps at my dance class =P soo confusingg !

  • can u make a playlist of the videoes you made so ppl dont have to search through all you uploads to find the "next step" in learning?

  • the no bouncing part of the lesson was for the caucasians that are learning salsa..lol

  • @010steveo not all caucasians bounce when learning salsa..believe me. ive seen all ethinicities bounce when learning, and they weren't white.. so please stop profiling white ppl, and saying we cant dance when most of us can.

  • @010steveo

Racism and youtube go hand in hand, regardless of what vid. you watch :(. Do you even know what a caucasian is? Right now off the top of your head without wiki? Being caucasian is a generalization of something that is already generalized, race. Which doesn't really exist. We are all people, and I bet every single one of my caucasian labeled, blue eyed friends from Argentina, Italy, Usa, Germany, Uruguay, Paraguay, etc.. Could teach you a thing or two. It's about dancing not race.

  • @010steveo Hey, I resent that comment. But only because of the truth of it. xD

  • Wow, Anthony, you have tips for every level! I didnt think my basic step needed much improvement, but even here you've opened my eyes! Thanks!

  • Thanks Anthony. I travel a lot for work and I've always wanted to take lessons, but i'm never home to get in a routine. These videos are great because I dont know the first thing about Salsa, except that I want to do it.

  • Yeass! Anthony, keep up the great work!

    You really helped me out!

    Props from Holland.

  • Knew that,did that.Teaching that.Thx for the the vid,thx for your effort ^.^

  • Anthony thanks for all your advice.. Looking for those shoes .. where can i get them?

  • Gabellini dance shoes. I think that if you use the coupon code a2s10 you get a discount (not sure if it is still valid). Tell them you heard about them from addicted2salsa.

  • awesome thanks

  • needed this thanks man..
