Oh man I remember this... and then as the NWA and WWF blew up they had to change to another theme song. Always hated the RNR express. Love the Road Warriors, in the AWA, and the Midnight Express... But these guys were indeed over in the mid 80's... And definitely predated the Midnight Rockers.. Although neither of them could hold a candle to HBK...
@TheTechnoa The Rockers started their gimmick before they made it to WWF as promoters of the territories wanted their own version of the R-N-R Express
This is better than their Memphis video, but still cheesy, especially the shots of them singing the song to you. They're like that drunk redneck who feels the need to sing the words to you at a concert because he assumes you aren't hip to their true depth & meaning. Lucklily, the Express' ring ability compensated for these silly promos. OTOH, the clip's not all bad - Jim Cornette does get pie-faced.... I wonder where they found a promoter willing to pay for the rights to use the song?
There is no way this video can't bring a smile to your face, especially if you're a child of the 80's. Both nostalgic and enormously cheesy. Cutting edge video tech of the day. Love the boom box, mullets, multi-colors, classic Kiss, and pro wrestling. Outstanding.
@KnightRyder316 they are pushing 50 you stupid ass. They did real "rassli'n" back then not talk for 3 hours like they do now. Show some respect MeatRyder.
Throw a dropkick and another dropkick, rock n roll did more than that. They were cool. I was a fan. They did a lot for small workers in general. They got noticed It was Ricky"s team. Ricky talked it and walked it. Robert looked like Elvis.
@1981CrueHead Two of the best sellers in the buisness no doubt.I wouldn't call it Ricky's team though.Yes he walked, and talked.Robbert did look like Elvis. But they both worked equaly as hard in the ring.
@kevindwb I think Robert is very shy. I don't think he ever trusted his own skills enough to be confident in front of the camera etc. So all he did was go out there and work.
The most influential tag team of all time. They brought a new style of tag team wrestling to America. They managed to become huge draws despite being smaller workers in the big man and technical, by the numbers body part era of tag team wrestling. The Rock N Roll Express style of smaller workers and fast paced wrestling paved the way for teams like the Hardy's, Edge and Christian, Young Bucks, Motor City Machine Guns and so forth.
@rune143 - LOL!!! What I wouldn't have given to be sitting next to him :) Back in the day, I was one of the "teenyboppers" and would have given anything just to be that mat :)
Did they steal the BOOMBOX gimmick from "Rock & Roll" Buck ZumHofe!!? Search Buck ZumHofe here on you tube. He started the BOOMBOX gimick in Wrestling.
Saw this as a kid too. They were hugh for NWA b/t 85-87. Place went nuts for them as soon as the music started. Flair said in his book RnR got more ladies then anyone.
