how/where did you get a copy of the "philosophers stone" in the US? i've searched all over for it short of ordering online and paying a ton for s&h...
@LexiTheShortOne i'm aware that it's the sorcerers stone in the US, i have it & have had it for like 6 years if not longer now.... what i'm looking for is a copy of the UK version here in the states that is titled "philosopher's stone" for collector reasons....
Man! I'm way behind on your Videos. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? Silly real life. Anyway, you share so many of my thoughts on the movie. I agree that the DE stuff was a bit too tame, but I LOVED the romantic stuff. It was perfectly teenagery and and angsty and it really fit the characters and where they were at in the book. Also, I thought the actor who played Draco was great in this - he really captured the character and his mixed feelings well. I can't wait until it's on DVD!
What I thought was weird about the film was when the deatheaters destroyed the Millennium Footbridge, in what was supposed to be 1996.. xD Construction didn't start until 1998. Woops. (: I did like the subtle hints in Young Voldermort's room though, such as the seven pieces of broken rock on his window shelf.. Very clever (:
I totally agree, Lizz! I didn't quite understand why that field sequence in which the Weazley's home burned down was added. However, there were many scenes that were true to the book. :) I only wish they had kept the chilling story of Voldemort's origins and more about the Horcruxes.
I'll agree with you that the movie was lacking, but I also agree that watching it with the diehard fans made it into almost a living organism made of awesome.
I think while watching the movie, you get totally hooked and you're going along for the ride. Afterward though, you feel empty; like what just happened didn't really happen at all.
The movie was...ok. However like all other Book-to-Movies movies left a huge hole in some of the story. When did Tonks and Lupin get married? Plus, the supposed battle at the end of the book, where was it? Finaly, in the book wasn't Bill mained by Greyback? So I wonder how they'll do that. Now for the positives, yes of course the couples were amazingly portraid and the look on Harry once he drank the bottle of Felix, was priceless.
All of the things that you just listed 18 hours ago were in the LAST BOOK! Do you really call yourself a Potter Head? (But I guess it's an easy mistake to make.)
I haven't seen the sixth Harry Potter movie. And it's out of LOVE of Harry Potter. I respect the book too much to be able to sit through two hours of misinterperations and bad decisions from directors who apparantly have never even read the series.
I enjoyed the movie, the acting gets better with each movie, but it sucks how much they cut out.
More then the fight scenes, which is what most of us really wanted to see, what really annoyed me was the lack of a suspense pause when they find out the horcrux is fake, the dialogue goes something like:
- hey looks the horcrux is a fake!
- Oh yeah I'm shocked! , by the way ron is ok with you dating his sister
In the book that was a moment that made you gasp, in the movie it's just a line
you're right about the horcrux thing I never really thought abou that. It's been so long since I read the book, but they really didn't make that seem like a huge deal
In my area, there were 5 people in total dressed up as characters instead of plain muggles or regular hogwarts students. I was one of those 5. I was Rita Skeeter after she lost her job, money, and upkeep b/c of Hermione and I was recognizably such. Why are Die-Hard Fans afraid to show their true nerdy-ness?! Loved the Luna in your video, I was almost her. For book 7 release, I was Voldemort post potion/graveyard - white face paint, bald cap, red tanning goggles, paper mache mask, etc!
I loved the new movie. Yeah, there were a majority of love triangle scenes, but that's how it was in the book too, so what are you going to do? But I loved how they tied in storylines from the 7th into this one (did anyone catch them?). It was nicely done, seemed like a Tim Burton film instead of a David Yates film. It surely is unique from the other 5, that can't be denied. I really loved the cave scene and the honoring of Dumbledore with the wands.
I feel bad, I haven't been able to see the movie yet but definitely want to watch it. I even reread the last two books because I don't have money to spend on the movie just yet. But I so promise that I will see the movie at midnight next time (and possibly in England).
I liked the movie, but I thought they spent too much time on the relationships (though they did do a good job with those as you said) and they tried to make it too funny. The funny stuff WAS hilarious, but Harry Potter is serious stuff lol. And the end which I'm not guna talk ab case ppl havent seen it, they did NOT make a big enuff deal out of!
lol i've seen harry potter 6 times! its all for free! i work at a movie theatre and you can see movies for free so when im projecting ill just go watch harry potter until i have to start a movie! haha
I haven't seen the sixth Harry Potter movie, I don't want to see the sixth Harry Potter movie, and I don't plan to see the sixth Harry Potter movie until it comes out on television, at which point I will most likely sit down and watch it with my sister for the sole purpose of revelling in the awesomeness of Alan Rickman's acting while mercilessly mocking everyone else. :D
I think the Harry Potter movies need to have extended versions likt the Lord of the Rinfs did because they leave so much of the good stuff out! Like the battle at the end was so lame! what happened to the school wide fight? So sad. My mom went to see the movie without me and she was really confused about why the movie was called "The Half Blood Prince" if there was barely anything in the movie about the Half-Blood Prince." They needed to make that a bigger player in the movie.
Well, how can I say this. Remember when you told Invisasis not to read twilight and had some very adult reasoning to it's distortion of self validation. Well my deer sweet Liz, even if I take into account your Schooling and religious affiliations which I think are all wonderful. I am begining to be concerned about you emotional development. I understand "Twilight" being like sweet candy of an entertaining story. But "Harry Potter" don't you have any truly adult interests?
I found a copy of the first book laying around my parents' house a few nights ago and have begun reading it. I will admit, that I was not really interested before, but the movies and the fans have convinced me that I should give this thing a try. We'll see where it goes.
Don't give up! And also... maybe don't read all of them in a row. After reading two or three without a break you start to get sick of the style. And we wouldn't want a silly reason like that to get in the way of you joining something magnificent.
I, like others, also noticed the rock. But i'm wondering if that little green statue on the shelf is possibly a statue of a Jane Austen character . More specifically, Elizabeth Bennet... Not that its relevent to the hunt, just curious.
The first time I saw the movie, I wasn't impressed. I think my expectations were too high, and then it fell flat. The storyline was jumpy, and I had read the book really recently so I was sitting there picking out everything that had gone wrong.
The second time however, I actually really enjoyed the movie, and couldn't remember what had irked me so much the first time around xD
I agree on everything you said! I would love for the story line to be more like the books, but you can't have everything... though I wish they had the beginning at the Dursley's, that's such a funny scene, and I wish they did Harry and Ginny's kiss right.
The casting was great. Rupert Grint was hysterical! I'm re-reading the series now so Harry Potter is kind of my life right now.
Our midnight showing started at about 12:40. They somehow tried to show the film with only a few copies to seven theatres, and the tape snapped. Fun fun. We were quite restless.
Can't figure out today's just yet, so I'll have to keep thinking on it.
I enjoyed the film, but of course it cannot touch the book's greatness. I was a bit upset that the backstory of Tom Riddle was left out, which was really emphasized in the teaser trailers and the most important part of the book. We didn't get to see anything about the Gaunts or Tom Riddle after Hogwarts, so it will be interesting to see how Harry figures out what the horcruxes will be. Perhaps since Deathly Hallows will be a two part movie, they will fill the holes then...
apparently it is going to be a two part movie, because if they miss anything out, then it can't be pieced together again! I just hope they stick true to the book! :)
Everyone started cheering like MAD when 12:01 came around because the lights were dimming and what we THOUGHT were the previews were going off. It looked like the movie was starting and everyone was practically screaming and...a preview for an opera comes on. Everyone in the theater literally boos! I was laughing so hard. The cheering started back up later.
I've always been a book fan, but this was my first midnight showing. SO GREAT! Everyone got those jokes. ;)
I agree with you! However i didn't like Ginny, I don't know why. Maybe my supreme jealousy that she's with Harry, but I just didn't like some of her line ...
I thought the movie was hilarious, though I did not imagine Lavender Brown to be such a creeper in the book. Some of the lines and such were suggestive, which kind of made me laugh..."I'll tie your shoe for you Harry..."...what? xD
woooo midnight release For the win! that movie was definitly on the success airplane. i totally get what you mean about it being a different expierince watching a movie with the "harry potter Crowd" it was really fun with discussing with random people our favorite books and parts of books. (we also had some spell casting at our theater too) i liked how they depicted the characters when they were under the infulence of potions. some funny parts there. I did NOT like how they did the end thou
It's rare to find such unity in a theater audience. : )
My dad talks about how people in movie theaters used to applaud at the end, and how that doesn't happen so much any more. I try to do it when I really enjoy a movie, like Away We Go (have you seen it, by the way? It's a great soundtrack!)
Level 2 is KILLING ME on today's mental floss. But, I'm going to persevere!
i really missed the opening scene with the prime minister as well as the funeral scene at the end, but i'm hoping they start the seventh movie with the funeral...
also, it woulda been nice if harry had figured out what the other horcruxes basically are... you know, so there would be enough foundation for two more movies and all.
I, to went to a midnight showing, though I highly doubt that it was the same showing you attended. I have to say, that kind of atmostpheric experience is definitely one worth.... happening. I find the same sort of experience when I go to a concert, and I'm up, close to the stage, with tens of other sweaty bodies, feeling the music before it has a chance to hit the people who chose to stand BEHIND the crowd. =DDD
I haven't seen it yet. Alfonso Cuarón of the POA, was my favorite director of all the HP movies and I loved the cinematography in POA above all others so far,
All the "snogging" was bound to happen, they are teenagers now.
I agree, cinematography was beautiful. The actors have improved so much since the other films. I feel like they FINALLY get who they are supposed to be portraying. Felton did an exquisite job playing the tormented Malfoy.
I, too, was disappointed by the fact that the death eaters didn't seem all that fearsome. What they need to realize is that the HP Fans are aging right along with it's characters and the movies should reflect that.
Hah, you're cute. And this didn't appear into my sub box until today. Silly, YouTube.
I'm on and off about the movie. Some parts were excellent and some I truly disliked. Like, I didn't like the ending and I totally agree with you about the Death Eaters coming into Hogwarts. They just broke windows and broke a few plates. And Ginny was awkward. But I think it was the funniest of all movies, which was fun.
Agreed. I was a little worried sitting in the movie theater that the Harry Potter fan / Twilight fan Venn diagram would be strongly overlapped, but when a Twilight ad came up during previews there was widespread booing. Which did disrupt the theater unity a bit, but I found it heartening nonetheless.
I'm going to DH's midnight premiere! I've never been to one before, so I'm super-excited!

Oh Felix, I had quite a laugh at that.
Another great video Lizz.

Thanks! Though I thought Ginny was lovely. Awkward in all the right ways... :-)

HARRY POTTER IS BETTER THAN TWILIGHT!
Just saying. :]

Agreed. I was a little worried sitting in the movie theater that the Harry Potter fan / Twilight fan Venn diagram would be strongly overlapped, but when a Twilight ad came up during previews there was widespread booing. Which did disrupt the theater unity a bit, but I found it heartening nonetheless.

I was unfortunately at a midnight showing here there was more anticipation for that trailer than the movie.
