That would actually be a Minnesota plate, and he didn't import the III, he built it using a 4th generation Mirage and two Evo III front clips, among several other parts.
It's a MN plate, and you CAN'T import a Lancer Evo III technically. Closest you could come would either be a conversion like this. Or, buy a Kaizo unibody and install the engine and drivetrain...
Either way, you're looking at $20k+...I'm guessing you won't be doing the conversion yourself, or any other work. So, it all really depends on how much the shop decides to make you pay out the ass.

Simply put, you CANNOT buy an Evo overseas and bring it to America and make it legal yourself. You won't even be able to get it through the dock, you can ONLY legalize an imported car if you are a licensed importer. Only company that can do anything like that now is Kaizo Industries.
You can convert a Mirage into an Evo 3. But, if you were going to try to import and legalize a car by YOURSELF it would cost you well over $100k from getting your license, to testing and approval.
There are currently NO companies that can import AND legalize a car for the US. The government shut almost all of them down after the MotorEx crap.
Kaizo Industries technically imports a car FRAME and makes ONLY the frame legal for the US. It does NOT do ANY work on legalizing engine or drivetrain. Kaizo unibodies are legal only in states that do not have strict emissions policy. Because, you can buy the frame and register it, and drive it without needing to be smogged or tested.
It does have a lot of stuff done to it. It is fully stiffned up with a 6pt roll cage,cusco zreo R2 coilovers,ect. no cheap stuff has gone into the car. I made it rhd to make it a full swap over to get it as close to a real evo III as I could that is also why it only has oem mitsu body panels on it.
A lot of custom work has gone into this car, most of the subframe is Evo3 and the suspension has been worked over a lot. It has a cage and a lot of other mods to make the chassis a LOT stiffer than a regular CE9A.
The 4g USDM Mirage is a LOT closer to it's japanese counterpart than the 5g USDM Mirage. For all real purposes the 4g USDM Mirage is just a rebadged Lancer GLi/GLXi. The differences in frame strength and rigidity aren't an issue, until you look at the later models (97-2001).
And to noxy109, I cant see why this would make it better than a stock 3? Ok, with that BHP, quicker maybe, but better handling? Not seeing how, unless you've modified suspension etc. Anyway, aint as quick as my 3, 320+bhp ATW! ;)
Its still no Evo 3, Evo's have far stiffer chassis than Mirage's. Just because its converted does not make it anything more than what it is, a poorly converted mirage with a gas can for a gas tank. (Yes a gas can, like one you use to fill a lawnmower up with) lol.

Mark's been working on Mitsubishis for years. He has more talent than any of you all could ever hope for. How many awd conversions have you done? 4G63T swaps? Auto to manual conversions? RHD conversions? How many 4G63Ts have you built up to 600+ Hp? Or even, 300AWHP?
Because in US first evo that's available was EVO 8. So to actually own EVO 3 you have to do a conversion from a Mirage. Yes that is a mirage converted to EVO 3, there are probably less then 20 of this car in US.

In the US a mirage is a lancer chassis. This is a US spec mirage converted over to an Evo 3, which is what he said. We didn't even get a turbo mirage over here.

Actually it is a 4g63t conversion with Evo3 AWD system. It is a full Evo3 conversion, including the doors.
