  • Wonderful

  • This was the last rehearsal before the tour.....A warmup show.....Wish I was there!!

  • Allways has been allways will be the BEST.

  • Eddie is Beethoven and Yngwie is Mozart... or reverse lol

  • i call this part of Eruption "the part where the robots screw starsystems"

  • I enjoy EVH's guitar licks still... he's not quite as crazy edgy as some, but he's spot on with tone, rhythm, and fun and that counts for something. A good solid guitarist!

    Peace

  • sorry...... that was not an amazing solo

  • eddie lost his fire ages ago, i love him but same ole tired licks real boring now, would rather hear him jamming in the studio

  • damn eddie was having a slow nite must have been a downer but it still sounds ok cause its eddies creation as i guitar player i will admit sometimes your fingers are just stiff we are not machines

  • If Hendrix heard Eddie he would have switched to drums-maybe he would have put the drums on fire to be remembered

  • this is only respectable because this is eddie's original technique and he owns it

  • this is too easy... better artificial intelligence than NO intelligence wiley

  • I can hear its "Eruption" but it doesn't sounds like it did before

  • word

  • what idiocy!! Eddie and all who believe that bulshit. nobody made any 'noises' or had any kinda tone before hendrix. He made eddies whole style

  • Um....Hendrix had absolutely nothing to do with Ed. Hendrix was all about fuzz and wah. Ed's main influence was Eric Clapton.

  • And ,perhaps more importantly for this clip, alan holdsworth.

  • And one of Claptons main influences was Hedrix.

    Guilt by association.

  • Um, Clapton debuted in 1964.

    Hendrix debuted in 1967.

Clapton's main influences were BB King & Buddy Guy.

  • Incorrect. Clapton was a very famous player with a big following when Hendrix showed up in London as a total unknown. Clapton came *before* Hendrix, by years. Players like Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Andy Summers helped Hendrix get established in London as he was figuring it all out and putting a band together. Hendrix was huge in England before anybody in the US even heard of him. He hadn't even seen a Marshall amp until Townshend and Clapton turned him onto it. Learn your history, young-un.

  • Clapton / Townshend / Beck coming before Hendrix do not dispel the fact that the major modern rock concepts on tone, volume, pyrotechnics are Hendrix. He took their elements to the level that eddie is starting from.

  • wrong.. niether holdsworth nor clapton (who i both love) have dive bombs or squeals or power chords or a real heavy rock tone..an architect of the rock guitar style Van Halen furthered

  • you can be influenced by something by stillhave absolutly nothing to do with them. its called inspiration dude

  • thats an oxymoron dude.. being inspired or influenced by something IS having something to do with them. Nobody said you have to eat at their mothers house

  • An oxymoron is when you call something a jumboshrimp or in your case artificial intelligence, nothing to do with aPyroticPunk's comment.

  • I would not put Eddie in the elite guitarist category with players like Satriani , Vai, or Gilbert who focus too much on music theory and not the guitar. No one matches Ed's dedication to the instrument and no one makes it look as easy and fun as he did. That's what makes him a legend.

  • EVH is a legend, but you can't say people like Steve Vai aren't dedicated to guitar, Steve Vai is just insane, its like he flows into his guitar and it talks for him.

  • spanish fly is eruption 2, then there is cathedral which is another amaizing technique (i dont think ed invented it) but heaps of the later van halen solos are different to the early ones

  • does anyone know what kind of pickups eddie is using?

  • His signature pickups that come on his signature guitar

  • Honestley I love Van Halen. But I think Edward peaked 30 years ago and is still playing the same solo over and over and over.

  • It would be easy for Eddie to noodle around more, however when the masses come to see the show they want to hear what they cherished so much from the past.

  • True.Eruption was it and that was it.He should have came up with eruption 2 or Cum all over or something lol

  • Its stupid to compare EVH to Steve Vai, both are unique talents in their own right. Eddie is the most influential guitarist of his genre, he paved the way for the likes of Vai and Satriani to take guitar playing to new heights. For me, Eddie will always be No 1.

  • same but vai and satrani looked up to ed. so obviously they are us in a way. no?

  • hey nms, how can dave be a higher respected musician since he bailed from vh to be a movie star.star is the key word. ed said he is amusician, not a star.ed let dlr back in.

  • Boy, are both Ed and Dave conflicted personalities. Ed's playing ability has waned over the years. He thinks people now are just satisfied to see "Ed". Wrong!

Dave, however, musically, I think has done better. As a musician myself I more respect what Dave has done musically since leaving VH. Dave's behavior in his personal life my be now somewhat suspect. Such as his interest in midgets.

There's no mistaking what those 2 did "back in the day".

  • that wasn't that cool IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!! ROCK ON EVH YER THE MAN!!!!

  • How cool would it been if eddie came to the g3!!!!! Rock on Eddie!

  • that would be a must see now eh?

  • wow, perfect recording! thanks for the post. hope you got the whole show.

  • stop sucking satchs cock u cock sucker eddie is way better

  • smackhead, how appropriate. who the fuck said anything about sucking cock? oh, you did. funny, i say satriani, & you say satch. mustve heard of him, huh? fuckin right you have! is that your mom calling you?

  • even if eddie wasnt bettr (but he is), eddie is still a much bettr song writer and has both guitar and songwriting talent

  • dude, that was amazing.

  • All 3 versions of van halen are great .I hope they do a tour with all 3 singers, and michael anthony, so everyone will be happy and all the wiiiining stops .ROCK ON MIGHTY VAN HALEN..from Hank in Miami..

  • Vai and Satriani are the offspring of a one night stand in Reno involving Van-Halen's guitar drunk on a flanger and a gay Wizard. In the past 15-20 years Eddie got too focused on the "brown sound" and forgot to do what he does best with the guitar- have fun. I saw the show in NY in Nov and it was a Van Halen that hasn't been heard in a long time. It was Awesome.

  • Ed is THE past, present, and future king of rock guitar. There never will be an equal in the future either because he can't be touched.

  • i've seen better from eddie

  • i'm sure you have- but it was eddie who started the trend. Its easy to print the TABS and learn "Eruption", but who composed it?

  • ... even learning eruption isn't easy :P lol

  • lol- and i didnt even post that comment- although i agree with it- lol

  • Last good solo ed ever did. I havent seen real good one on this tour. I wish ed would just play good again.

  • whats that tapping rift at the begining of the vid??????

  • Go listen to "Satch Boogie" and tell me what it sounds like. Right - "Hot for Teacher".

Vai did a cheesy copy of the "Hot for Teacher"

video. What a piece of crap that was...

    Know your music, kid...

  • Who do you think Vai and Satch learned 1/2 of their technique from? Van Halen's influence is all over Satch's music. I love Satch, not so much Vai but they both borrowed from him.

King Edward. As influential as Hendrix.

  • vai and satriani make this guy look like chump. yay, eruption. so old. so lame. so... over.

  • eruption is just a sliver of his playing his ryth playing was awesome and overlooked but the guitar solos in just about everyone of the DLR era songs was groundbreaking forget eruption listen to the rest of what he did..

  • ask either and they would say they admiire him, vai and eddie are realy good freinds

  • Eddie is 10000000000x better than Vai! lets be honest!

  • I love Eddie's music, Vai's, not so much. However, Vai is an amazing player. He can play right or left-handed. He is insanely talented.

  • I respectfully disagree. I believe Via is a much more experimental player than Ed. Ed's whole thing is tapping, divebombs and a very percussive style. His influence was Hendrix-like back in 1976, but things have moved on. If you listen to Jeff Beck back in the 60's you hear where Ed got much of his style.

Ed was the best about 20-30 years ago, but you now have a whole host players today who are better. Paul Gilbert, George Lynch, Steve Lukather and Neal Schon to name a few.

  • omg Paul gilbert = multiple orgasms

  • edward never really like hendrix. no offense but people like hendrix because he is overrated. the guy flipped a right handed guitar strings backwards so he could play left handed. :o bet ed couldnt do that.

  • i so agree hendrix aint that good. great edd video

  • I seriously suggest going through Van Halen's entire catalogue and listening to the songs. You can ignore all of the solos. It's what Eddie does before and after the solos in the songs; the technical fills. He manages to make it sound like they had two guitarists back then.

  • Wonder why VH was not performing on the American Music Awards last night? VERY STRANGE THAT THE BIGGEST BADDEST REUNION TOUR...THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN EITHER DECLINED THE INVITE OR was not INVITED???

  • VAN HALEN FOREVER!!!!!!!! year

  • i want this on dvd.

  • Its thrue that E.V.A. always does the same solos over and over, add some new riffs less tecknical but more harmonious, more from the heart than for the show off.

  • give it up vh sucks

  • Observation: in all these video's I've yet to see the Frankenstein Replica that

Eddie was so amazed with. As well, I understand wanting to keep it in the

family, but it's my opinion that they could have waited a few years to bring in

Wolfgang. He may be able play the parts but there's a lot to be said about

appearance. This has nothing to do with his weight, it's just that he looks

    awkward and out of place.

  • guitarran: Out of Place? Wolfie is 16 years old. His FATHER is Edward Van Halen & his UNCLE is Alex Van Halen. That's all you need if your born into that bloodline. Thank-You. :)

  • yep, totally agree on wolfgang. he's a kid, not a legendary-rockband's-bassplayer. look at his body language: stiff and quiet.

  • blah blah blah. Same old crap.

  • Here's the evolution of rock guitar: First there was Clapton. Then came Hendrix/Beck/Page. Then the mighty Edward Van Halen kicked all their butts with his astonishing, shredding and out of this world mastery of the instrument. The guy is a Genius with a capital G!

  • Every Eddie solo clip I watch / listen to, is exactly the same note for note from every single show. Same solo actually from 1984. It's still good, but damn, learn a new riff or 2 would ya Ed?

  • i like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

  • you say that !!! but if it was'ent for players like eddie van fucken halen who set the limits for guitar playing which is no limits !!! and for your info BUD our guitar players of today would'ent be pushing the boundreys if eddie did'ent show them what to do with that six string thing that we the guitar just a little food for thought

  • uh....just who is pushing the limits of guitar today??

  • When I see things like this I know it was a blessing that Hendrix died. See, if Eddie had died after his 3rd record, everyone would be wondering what he would be doing if he was alive today, instead of lamenting at how terrible he plays these days.

  • i think eddie is at his pinnacle of his musical carrer doing better then he has ever in his life now

  • amen to that

  • So if I understand Fundy here,he is saying that Eddie needs to take a vacation and come back with something original....So should Clapton do the same thing? Or I think Zeppelin...or at least Page/Plant are doing something....I hope they have some new techno out.Give me a break!

  • Next time you come to Fort Wayne, ED. Don't come stoned, and play the damn thing like you did here.

  • still got it 30 years later hahaha go Ed.....shame I gotta miss this show : (

  • damn,,u ppl go mad hard on a simple question,,,,

  • It's called you are a retard, it's Eruption. Buy the album.

  • he sed the one they sang it the end , u just made urself look like the retard

  • they're not they used to be thats for sure.

i would have liked to see eddie take a good enough vacation where he could be inspired to outhink his 20 plus year guitar box and come back and reestablish his gift.

dave is a disastor. no class. no respect for the audience, horrible singing now.

    too bad.

people, STOP making fun of wolfgang cuz he's larger. he'll kick your ass. besides, what i said is mean enough..dont make fun of ed's kid.

  • woa,,wats this song called,,,??

the one they sang in the end,,,

  • Thats called "ain't talkin' bout love".

Its a rip! Its mostly a minor, and its easy as hell to play.

  • nice, i havn't seen or heard from him in ages

  • this is.... BAD... if you didn't know it was eddie himself playing it and you heard it you'd say... this SUX, bad rendition of a classic

  • whatever hero.

  • You sir are a fuckin idiot. They sound amazing. You're just another big mouth who knows nothing.

  • man whenever eddie played the peavey wolfgang it is always out of tune....shit... i dont like rhat guitar...

That's not a peavey wolfgang, and eddie plays 3 quaters step down all the time, so that's why it sounds out of tune.

  • well, maybe the stress of being on the road, year after each year- 6 straight platinum albums in a row, took its toll. whats the quickest way to get out of a contract? back then, every band i know of, put out a new album once evry 2 years.

  • man, he really butchered eruption this time, hes still great though.

  • 500 to 600 (friends and family, two shows), pre tour sound ck with the PA and everything.

i'm a huge VH fan but what i want is a new album. they have what?, 4 albums of new material they have been working on for the last? 3 years?? is ted templeton still around?

  • They can't do another album until after they've screwed over Dave again, and found another unworthy singer to take his place!

  • its great to see these mofo's back again...wondering are these vids filmed in front of a full crowd or what?If so i ain't picking up any great vibes...but then through a lap top i s quite different. Are the bastards gonna come to Europe(IRL) me wonders? See you there....

  • man whenever eddie played the peavey wolfgang it is always out of tune....shit... i dont like rhat guitar...

  • He isn't playing a wolfgang here.... this is a prototype of a new model with fender/charvel. You can tell by the headstock.

  • hey whats the name of the second song?

  • aint talkin bout love

  • lebanesebassist go kill yourself newb

  • the tapping in the begging is really simple

  • no shit, go fuck yourself. it was really that simple, why the fuck would he play it? ya, i can tap on the guitar, but hes just so smooth, hes perfected it, he really paved the way for tapping.

  • thank u lennie

  • Its funny how everyone misses Mike - I don't recall anyone screaming his name at any concert - just EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE - the poor guy always looked like the forgotten one - Mike's doing fine jamming with Sammy and he ain't crying - as far as Wolfie - he's playing just fine too and get off the fat jokes - they are old and tired - stop being jealous

  • they have been rehearsing for a year.....

  • He's been playing this same fuckin solo since the world was flat!!

Can this shit head please evolve???

  • hahahah thats true i hate to say, maybe some new songs would be cool or even better a new solo lol!

  • Get the kid back in school. Mike was the core of this group. They will last 1 summer. Watch.

  • Oh yeah I said it earlier...

There is no Zeppelin without John Paul Jones and there is no Van Halen without Michael Anthony.

Once again Van Halen pisses in our face and calls it Lemonade

  • The magic is gone sad to say, but EVH tone is better than ever. How ironic !

  • it's rehearsal... there is a relearning....and what so many think is so easy...well it's not.... Shows are not just getting together and playing songs...it's work. It will come together...

  • Does anyone know what bass Wolfgang is playing? Is he keeping it oldschool VH with the P-bass?

  • Dude, fuck yeah! Its stil fucking sick

  • Eddie still delivers - looks and sounds better than he has in decades - I think he's hit his second wind. \m/ \m/ Can't believe Dave still has those pipes - most rock singers on comeback tours are singing an octave down ;) I wonder if Geoff Tate still can get up there.

  • some dont. james hetfield is still singing as good as he did. he cant get his voice as rough as before, but still sounds good.

  • Just O.K. . I'll be seeing them in 2 weeks and hope EVH is better than this . Both times I've seen EVH he has been boring as far as solos . Better live solos I've seen : Zakk , Frank Marino , Gilmour , Vai , Page , Chan Kinchla , Iommi , Tipton , Winter . Still lookin' forward to it .

  • I'm suprised that Eddie is still jumping onstage considering the fact he had hip-replacement surgery. He's got new teeth and just as skinny as he was back in the '70's.

    He looks great.

  • Its called classic- people.. I know we've heard it b4, but Im just glad to hear them back together again...

  • Yes very cool but same old same old. I konw he can come up with some new solo shit. I've heard all that stuff a million times. Boring!!

  • I do wish that MA was in and Wolfie was out. Would have been SO much better IMO. However, I just hope this leads to a new studio album/NEW MUSIC!! Because all I really want to hear is Eddie's kick ass song writing again! The same old live solo shit is old. I WANT NEW VH MUSIC!!!

  • his playing is pretty crisp considering he's blown half his brain cells on coke, booze, and whores. he is the king of rock stars, after all. bravo on an amazing life, ed. i don't know if any of you have seen ed's "frankenstein" interview on here", but they guy's completely lost his marbles. the only way they're writing new material is if sammy sobers up long enough from selling cabowabotequila to sit down and write them. not bloddy likely, mate.

  • Definitely NOT amazing. This is a fraction of what eddie used to be able to do. I think it's great that they are out on tour, but I also feel a little sad when I see such an icon not at the top of his game anymore.

  • Eddie did some great work but this isn't it. Can it be that a player this talented and capable has run out of things to say and can only go on autopilot and hit the repeat button? He's playing like he's getting paid per note. If he has anything original & innovative left, I hope he lets it out, I'm sure it'd be amazing.

  • jesus, it's like hearing the same songs again for the 5000th time, the same solo, same shit eating grin, same old, same old, same old.

  • Um yeah, 'cause it's who they are and what they do. I heard close to 20 years of -not- Van Halen (keyboards? Sammy Hagar?) -THIS- is Van Halen, got it?

  • of course its amazing wtf, it's eruption. you havent heard much of van halen

  • holy shit!

  • fuckin' awesome

  • Oh, they definately made a difference mr "andyvastola". You know it...and it makes you mad!!!! All you people who bust on the fact that its not a reunion tour can shut up. They said themselves at the press conference that it wasnt a reunion, it was a NEW band.....let it go naysayers, there back and there aint nothing you can do about it!!!

  • "reunion?" isn't anyone wondering why they just straight up dissed Michael Anthony and didn't even ask him to play bass on this "reunion" tour? What a bunch of assholes. This band never made a difference.

  • Wow!!!! Where you at Dicky Betts? :)

  • I love you eddie!

  • He'll play until it explodes.

  • He can play the shit out of a guitar

  • Damn they sound good.

  • I can't wait to see them in Indy! Floor seats baby! Van Halen is by far one of the GREATEST rock bands to ever set foot on a stage!!

  • Who'll spent some money to take Van Halen to Argentina???? Mmmhh.. that's a very remote posibility :( Saludos amigos

  • Eddie and Dave stay cool. Ive spent alot of money and Im taking my 8 year old girl with me.

  • She says "Who is Britney Spears". She has a crush on Wolfgang.

  • what a GREAT parent...lol

u keep showing her the REAL TUNES

    rock on

  • Cant wait.. Got tickets, hotel res. and airline tickets for 10/07,10/10 and 10/12. Flying out of Dallas. VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!

  • The world seems a less threatening place, now that Dave is back where he belongs...PEACE.

  • I still LOVE Eddie! Sounds and looks great!

  • what a joke!!

  • vengan a la argentina ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love EVH but it's true he hasn't progressed much... it is the same solo he's done for years... he's a very wealthy rock star who is no longer hungry... and the aggression is gone... still a giant though.. albiet a sleeping one..

  • you are a silly boy-----do you talk trash at your bar gigs too?

playing covers in shitholes must be fun fatboy

  • "plenty of tickets" is right dork

  • wow, just got back from Charlotte concert, it was sooo amazing

  • Just got back from opening night here in Charlotte, other than minor feedback issues that I'm sure will be taken care of I thought they sounded great. Wolfgang was also pretty impressive in his debut.

  • Anyone who would rip on eddie is comprised of 100% pure ignorance.

Everyone has opinions on who's good and bad, but anyone willing to rip on him obviously knows NOTHING about creativity or his influence on today's guitar playing.

  • I love Eddie's playing...always have but it's the same solo over and over. I know he has to play eruption but I wish he would come up with something new.

  • dude..it never gets old----

but your fatass keeps getting fatter

  • LOL, DefCon must have been cracking out when he made his post. Hendrix couldn't hang with Van Halen at all.

  • Blackmore was one step behind a god - Hendrix. Halen is not as good.

  • EDDIE FOR EVER!!!

  • better than most people. but not like he was in that 5150 concert video of theirs. the speed just isn't there.

  • Frater8....you suck. The guy is a genius and brought his tapping style and whammy bar dives to the front of guitar playing. The 1980's were all about being like him. Granted he wasn't the first to tap. He made just made it soooo gooood.

  • he's an indo which means half dutch half indonesian

  • Kicks off tonight here in Charlotte, I can't freak'in wait. I'll be there tonight with my 17yr old son.

  • give us a review please. Lookin' forward to seeing them in Calgary.

  • Eddie van Halen is a very good guitarist... :p we all know of course.

Nice to know: He is from.... HOLLAND!!

    MY LAND

    OUR LAND

FUCKING HELL I'M CONNECTED WITH EDDIE VAN HALEN AND HIS BROTHER...

  • I'd still have it if I played the same damn solo for 30 years
