What the 1972, Billy Thorpe and tha Aztecs version at Sunbury, as seen onYT had was the power of marshall amps and post valve technology and 60000 audience fuelled. Its the best. These boys here are cutesy, 1966-Hey were the Monkees-just dont wanna put anyone down-shit
Actually, since most TV performances were lip-sync, The Raiders thought it was silly to try to make people believe they were actually playing so they put on a crazy show!
HOLY CRAP! I had no idea these cats did a version of this song. For me it's as good as the one done by The High Numbers. What program is this clip from? Thanks for sharing.
Fang and Harpo gave Paul a real hard time on this video. They walk across the piano then when Paul was trying to get Harpo to get his foot out from inside the piano Fang starts sawing the piano, and Paul is like "WTF!" Very funny video. LOL
@TwiggsWoody Nope, search out Ronnie James Dio 's version of ooh poo pah doo on here. Yes, the metal god, ronnie james dio. His cover of the song is fierce... it was done in i think 62?
@CBRADIOLOVER Nope again. The Elegants, 1964. Dio's version is respectable. Great vocal ability, but pretty square sounding, overall, not nearly as wild as Jerry Miller & The Elegants, which predates The Raiders version by two years and still reigns over it.
PR & TR little or no credit? yeah, hmm, i can see that.
poor Hendrix, though... great guitarist, but he did used to steal a few things from other artists in their stage acts and put them into his act; really odd to me, because he was a thorough Surf-Blues musician and seemed to unnaturally adopt a crazy-man act on stage.
remember every musician worth anything got / gets ripped off, and the fans see right through
i'm not sure this was "the beginning of The Who", but i am now finally certain that THIS video was the beginning of when i took a steak knife to our vinyl furniture in the family kitchen when i was four...
Dick Clark is a greedy SOB who needs to die so that the "Where the action Is" collection can be released for sale. He has them all tied up for decades, the rotten bastard.
The who recorded MARK's song "Louie Go Home" as "Lubie Go Home" - in an identical vocal style as Mark as well! So yes, The Who copped from The Raiders!..They played guitars behind their backs--which is where Jimi Hendrix got the idea; he used to attend their shows! WHEN will these guys get the credit they so rightfully deserve!??
@MarkLindsayfan2 That's cool, i didn't know that about Louie/Lubie thing. But the guitar behind the back trick, that goes waay back to T-Bone Walker in the 40's. That guy was truly an original rock star. BB King copped so much from him and everything else that followed. The Elegants (with Jerry Miller) recorded Ooh Poo Pah Doo in 1964 & might have been the first band to take Jessie Hill's classic into the frantic stratosphere. Recorded by Kearney Barton, who did all the Sonics stuff. Video on YT
hm, apparently Clark was NOT the host of the show (although he may be in the audience), Paul Revere & The Raiders were... and this episode might be the 2nd season closer.
wow, i figure this clip is rare, this show needs to be released on DVD
nice try, but The Who performed this in the clubs long before this video was shot... and, umm, broke their instruments on stage for real a lot earlier, too.
let's see.. this can't be "American Bandstand", can it?
The Who recorded identically MARK's song "Louie Go Home" as "Lubie Go Home" -and didn't give correct credit to MARK-who wrote it. The Raiders did destroy instruments earlier than The Who. Plus played guitars behind their backs before Hendrix-who used to see them in concert!
You can see Dick Clark early in the crowd shot. Always wondered since "Where the Action Is" was usually outdoors, why were there these indoor studio performances?
I've seen others who's clips were in studio and not outdoors.
Why are they pretending they're The Who?

@CBRADIOLOVER Dio's version is stunningly tame. As fierce as a kitten. He wasn't the "Ronnie James Dio" we'd know many years later just yet.

okay, this is on "Where The Action Is", i never heard of that show before, and PR&TR were regular performers on the show.
i guess if i was a regular on Clark's show i would start breaking my equipment onscreen, too, lol.
