Check out the Met Gala with her (also on you tube) Crappy video with I assume korean or japanes subtitles, same scene - she is bringing down the house
Brava! La Nilsson's voice is like a gale force wind. Such a great document of an important singer in a one of her finest roles! Thanks for the upload.
birgit nilsson sang this unimproveable, no question!!!
but for my taste the orchestra goes under here it's to quiet here, Strauss improved the form of sinfony-opera e.g. Salome and especially in the scene, salomes long solo, this is not a bravour-aria, the voice is a part of Strauss' instrumentation to this violent scene, because the text, just my opinion, is not important here, the content of this scene is very, very clear... maybe it's just fault of the recording.
Nilsson was an incredible Salome! Just magnificent! She sang with a power and chaos and storminess that was right on target for Salome's madness....she never disappointed ..she killed audiences at the '65 Buenos Aires performance, at the Met performances and anywhere she sang Salome...her classic recording with Solti for Decca is a masterpiece!
One of the greatest singers I ever saw, bar none, and I saw them all. I wonder, is there more of this performance besides the final scene? Many thanks
Nilsson is a breathtaking Salome! Her laser beam high notes and dominant vocalism blow me away! She has such vocal solidity and confidence.

He could have just had her locked up. He didn't have to have her killed.

Yes, but who has a copy without the VCR readout? Please! Who wants to see a bunch of numbers hiding Nilsson?

When are you going to upload something? maybe then you can complain... but beggers can't be choosers

I totally agree. Anyway, the 'numbers' were mostly above the singer, anyway.
