I am a stanch advocate in diet and exercise and have campaigned for years for the schools to make Phys Ed , Art and Music manditory HS graduation. Accept the fact that every human will and NEEDS to gain poundage every year of his/her life, but properly DEFINE obesity. Someone 5- 25 LBS overweight (dep. on height too -even a little more!) is NOT obsese/fat. 100+ pounds IS. And damn it, people are just shaped differently - it DOES NOT mean they are always a health risk.
BS is a bargin. there are those of "perfect heath' who die of diabetes, heart disease and other afflictions. There are bogus stastics for everything, the trth will be when people figure them out, then that's what makes them free to be...human.
Accurate information will make people intelligent; but living in ignorance keeps the economy pumping.
One thing that could be done is to find a way to make healthy food more affordable. It is cheaper to eat off the dollar menu, fix carbs, etc..... olive oil, fresh fruits and veggies, and especially natural and organic products cost a hella lot. They usually expire faster, too... so if you don't eat them soon enough you lose money. I think that is the core of the problem more than anything else. Eating healthy is something lower socioeconomic groups just can't usually afford.
the obesity epidemic, global warming, and the crisis of political power across the globe is ENTIRELY the fault of the first industrial revolution and this system of economy and wealth that we've created over time...
This is awful! But definitely not something we didn't know before. Instead of engaging in temporary crash diets, people should be investing more in a lifelong change in diet and an overall healthier lifestyle for their WHOLE lives, and not just for the alloted number of months that a proposed diet calls for.

Mandi7882; Actually research has shown people only 25 lbs overweight are at increased risk for heart disease, diabetes and other afflictions.
Not good news I know ... But only good accurate information will get people to make a change.

Instead of getting pissed off at the truth ... why don't you do something about it ... like exercise or diet ...
But I guess it's easier to just bitch and let the tax payers pay for your health care!!!
