Negli anni '80, Maria Joao Pires aveva queste doti interpretative straordinarie, poesia e lirismo erano tangibili e ricche di sentimento e di trasporto interiore, con un forte ascendente sul pubblico. Preferisco ricordarla così, specialmente in Schubert. Negli ultimi anni ha perso un bel pò del suo ricco e alto pregio esecutivo. Mi piange il cuore dover dire questo, e le sue apparizioni in pubblico mi pare siano diminuite !!
Vienna, september 26, 1828 is dated this sonata written by Schubert´s own hand, the last year of his short life, how fantastic a genius was Schubert, very nice interpretations by Maria Joao Pires as most of her performances
every note has a diffeent color. Many loud fleet younger pianists cant differentiate between a pp and a p on stage they have p ,mf,f,ff she has many sounds and many between mf and pp .Then again she has many attacksor touches.A really sensitive pianist who must know the mechanism of piano thoroughly ! But most of alllshe has a personality ,soul and integrity!!!
I actually prefer Uchida on this wonderful masterpiece that does to me what it does to danscooby, but it's only a matter of interpretation. With Uchida it's even softer and more together. Andsnes is miles behind.
Ahh.. this wonderful sonata sends me to heaven, yet showing me what dramatic trials have been overcome to get there. She plays with such grace and you can really feel each note as if they are reaching out to touch you. You can just feel this piece take over your mind soul and body. What a pianist, she has really reached out and taken hold of divine beauty and emotion with both hands. Bravo. Bravo.
this woman got presw w/ Philips .I ignored and now i feel after watching er withBoulez and Mozart sonatas here .the most honest alive controlled spontaneous technicslly shehas it asl too.Her knowl of sound closest artist Ive heard since rach &Hofmann to VOICE subtlety .I have Kocsis on vid n this sonata.i wont compare he is strange genius but this woman has become the new household GOD chez moi.Must get Beet late sonatas!WhaT A SURPRISE.SHE IS TINY SO PPP TO f BUT HER MEANINGS there

this recording shows that you don't have to act like a lunatic when playing the piano in order to give a sense of emotion to a pianopiece!

Has she recorded this piece?
If not, I really think DG should think about it seriously.
Agree that Andsnes is miles away.
The 'current' best version is Pollini's, and methinks Pires' is ALSO very good.
Really should make out a recording of it.

I think she recorded it for ERATO many years ago.
I believe she will record it again some day...

Truly remarkable. It is as if the music is happening to her. She has reached out to touch eternity. She is what she plays. She is divinity.

ahhhhh in this piece you can see where Mendelssohn got the inspiration for his Wedding March. Great playing.

Precioso tu Schubert Maria, todo en su sitio, hermosos los contrastes y colores.
Personalmente me gusta más el de Alfred Brendel, es custión de gustos, Gracias por tu interpretación Maria.

A transcendent performance. Pires is so deeply and directly in touch with the finest and most subtle emotional nuances of this remarkable sonata.

That is due to film bad quality...
Youtube M. J. Pires interpretation of Mozart sonata is played in the same piano and sounds better, because the video have more quality.
