You may very well beat the "unskilled thug", as most people can't hit for shit anyway. Nevertheless, if someone is that close to you, and fires a shot off you WILL BE hit. As I have already said, "action beats reaction". Don't take my word for it tho'. Have someone stand very close to you, and get them to touch your face as fast as they can. See how many you can avoid or "Block", none I'll wager. Remember, I'm talking about "handshake" distance - where all fights take place.
