Turkey is a newly industrialized country, its not an advanced democracy, its an ILLIBERAL democracy-human rights and civil liberties are violated, they have ongoing disputes with EU members such as Greece and Cyprus. They arent secular enough, low HDI, low GDP per capita,etc...this is not a country that meets EU standards
