Happy Birthday Karen. What a precious gift you gave all of us here on earth for almost 33 years. For the last 29 years you have been entertaining & singing with all of the other greats up in Heaven. You were & will always be our very special borrowed Angel. You are with me in spirit every day & night. I Love You & Miss You so much Karen. God Bless You Karen.
@xstugee I'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like Karen herself playing that drum part. She is also a very talented drummer and has some unique patterns that she would play. This really does sound like her though.
In an all too real and sad way, I feel that the lyric "In my own time, nobody knew/the pain I was goin' through" was actually about Karen Carpenter. She was amazing. She was beautiful both outside and, from what I've heard, she was a good person. It's just sad that she didn't think she was as beautiful as everybody else did.
I LOVE the Carpenters! They are totally amazing! Karen is truly an angel.
I think that Karen's brother could have made anyone a star, so talented as he is... Of course the siblings make that perfect sound together, but the heart of the harmony was Richard (this is how I hear it). I wish he weren't so much in the background all the time. His voice is perfect and he looked good. Where is he now and what is he doing...?
@utasalokkim i don't totally believe you...i can't imagine rihanna or any recent artists could sing these songs as good as karen...the simplicity of karen's voice is neither in any singers before nor after her time...but i do believe as well richard is a great arranger...in other words they 2 make a perfect match...
@jeff62rey Not alone at all man! I'm a 50 year old dude. Karen is the one singer who, in all my my 50 years, made me cry with her music. Now that's powerful music!
@MultiPalp During their career together, Richard was pretty much the brains behind the act and he was careful about what songs he'd give Karen to preform not settling for anything less than what he thought was right.
@MultiPalp On a Compilation album (CD) released in (I believe) 2001, this was mentioned in the liner notes. Most of their hits including this were released when I was in elementary school. I remember hearing many of them back in the day.
Richard is probably one of the more underrated American songwriters. He's right up there with Burt Bacharach, as far as I'm concerned. Interesting that neither was a lyricist as well.
All her songs are telling us how she felt all through her life, we were enjoying the songs, but if you actually listen to the lyrics shes was crying out for help...........:( Funny how we all cant see whats under our faces sometimes.........
There is almost some kind of eeriness but at the same time overjoy on this video that she looks like she's walking in the grounds of forest lawn, resurrected!
always be grateful to my mother for introducing me to the carpenters many years ago....still one of the best voices there has ever been...althought i like todays music not any of todays artists will have a voice as pure and classic as karen!
Man! They were good! What a voice she had! Nobody sings like this poetic today. Nobody. I miss them. I remember this song when i was a kid. It was one of my favorites. Still is.
@palacios871 I was thinking the same thing watching this.I was born in 1975, but I think 1975, to 1980 was the only time in my life I was truly happy.
Richard Carpenter bullied his sister merceylessly. he called fat. i hope you happy now richard in life of luxury thanx to the efforts of a suicide you played a 98% blame in. yeas go cach another royal check and buy some more meth jack***

@Larissa1973 Sorry, no. The chubby article is a complete fabrication which was put into the tv movie for the purposes of ratings, I suppose. She never collapsed onstage, either. Richard let all of that go, though, as he was the executive producer of the film. "Little Girl Blue" tells the story. she was NOT insecure as a performer: she knew full well what a great singer and drummer she was. If you go to "Google archives", you will nothing but articles describing Karen as "pretty," "foxy," or
@Larissa1973 whatnot. Richard and her mother held her back, owned her, in a sense. He called her solo album "shit" and never supported her. He even took her away from the drums, which she loved more than anything. He is heavily responsible for what happened to her, and he is aware of this, I believe.
There is not a single article ever written in Karen's lifetime which described her as "chubby." It was Billboard Magazine which called Richard her "chubby brother," however.
@pbrick6301 my mom died last april 16 this year,,iam so sad and this song always reminds me of her, wherever she is right now i hopo she is happy,,,i hope she help me to help us all to move on,,,

Been nearly THIRTY years since this lovely lady passed away. I can't believe how time flies. I wasn't even born when she left us. But I feel so sad about her passing.....
EVERYBODY likes the Carpenters. They were certainly iconic and popular in the 1970s. This is probably my fave song by them, and a close second is their version of 'Hurting Each Other'...
..",I really miZ..this song!!! if i'll giving a change to duet miz karen carpenter!i want her..couze her voice is very fantastic...but she already pass'awy..so sad..she's beautiful..and her song is a meaningful..I love her..the way she song an Only Yesterday!!and i'll never forgot when i was an elementary pupil..I always listen her songs..I LOVE YOU karen...!!!
I cried the day I heard of Karen's passing. What great musical pleasure the Carpenter's have brought us over the years... no one will ever come close!
This is my favourite song of all time. I heard it for the first time back in the early 1980's and since then it has been stuck in my head. Just seeing the video for the first time...love it!!!!! Karen is the greatest female singer of all times (sorry Celine and Whitney).
I love you Karen Carpenter.

I'm only 3 years old, and when I'm not asking for a cookie or pooping my pants, I'm listening to the Carpenters.

EVERYBODY likes the Carpenters. They were certainly iconic and popular in the 1970s. This is probably my fave song by them, and a close second is their version of 'Hurting Each Other'...

God, that opening Low E-flat note is UNREAL...what range. I always find myself shaking my head in disbelief at the beauty of Karen's voice...
