The theme was by David Rose. It was written for the movie Forbidden Planet but was never used. Instead, they just used the computer sounds and blips. It was on a record of sci-fi themes.

I loved Long John Nebel but gave up punching in secret codes on elevators to bring me to the secret city........two many floor stops!

Years ago, I found a few beat-up transcription discs of Nebel's show from a church sale. I don't know if I still have them; I need to check. That's where I first heard the eerily beautiful theme song. I'm trying to find the full version of that song, and I don't know the name or the performer of said song. Can you please help me with that? Thanks.

@lupineassassin I used to love that music as a kid listening to Long John and I'm like you, don't know who did it where it came from or how to get ahold of a copy!! Somebody out there must have it!! Would love to hear that again!! Anybody out there to help us out??
