    village had to attend. This was James P. Allaire's second company, used for manufactering parts and iron for his steamship company in New York.

    family wanted to move out. The usual wage was $3.00 and onece a month, families in the row houses would pay $2.00 rent. The other dollar would be broken to save for a daughter's dowery, a son's apprentence fee, or other things a family might need at the general store or the bakery.

    The name of the town wasn't "Allaire," rather, it was the "Howell Iron Works." Children would be used to make screws.

    You're pretty much correct, save for a few details.

    We really didn't have an inn in the village itself. The only lodging locations were the "Big House," or Mr. Allaire's mansion (which he sayed in only every orth/third weekend since he lived mainly in New York City), the manager's house, the foreman's cottage (<3), the gardner's cottage, the carpenter's house, and the row houses. Mr. Allaire would pay his workers in his own money, which could be cashed in for gold if a
