  • Cool Thanks!

I lived on Harbor Blvd back in the 1960's just down the road from Disney. Ahhh memories.

  • Thanks!!

  • wow...this vid just brings a warm feeling :(

  • Thank you for posting this. I grew up in Orange county..so Disneyland was always a part of my life.. even now. My youngest son is 20 and he works there. So many things have changed now .. there are no baskets going from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland on a wire across the park anymore..The People Mover is gone. The Rockets are on ground level now.. but seeing this old footage, I can show him a few things he's never seen before. Thanks again.

  • @mattiesmama Ah, how cool. Glad you enjoyed it. Also glad there are so many of us who've posted this kind of stuff so those glory days of the park don't have to completely fade away.

  • @mattiesmama yeah. it's sad to see the Sky Way, People Movers, America Sings, Mine Train Thru Natures Wonderland, Adventure thru innerspace, Phantom boats gone. i have made a pic slide show of Mine Train Thru Natures Wonderland if u would like to check it out. it's on my channel

  • I really enjoy the vintage Disneyland videos, reminds of the first time I went there in 1982, My daughter went there twice last year. It has changed a lot. I miss the old Disneyland

  • nice

  • wow this video actually made me tear up. i miss being a kid. the world is your playground when ur lil and somehow you forget that. thank you.

  • @Daftchild89 I'm glad you enjoyed it. And, yeah, good point about how we see the world differently at different points in our lives.

  • Wow this is amazing! I seriously think they should bring the people mover and some other rides back.

  • I love, love, LOVE your old home movies!!

  • Tank you for this footage even if I was born in the 90s I can experience Disneyland in 1968.

  • Awesome! Loved the Old Faithfil at the end. :P

  • Thanks I was born in 70 and my Dad travelled a lot. Was in Disneyland in the mid 70's and this brought back a lot of memories. It was a very different time back then - a better time

  • @nickeysgreat A different time and a different park as well.

    Thanks! :-)

  • Very nice. I have never been to Disneyland but I would like to visit it sometime. I have been to Walt Disney World many times though because I spent some of my childhood in St. Petersburg. This video is touching because I was born in 1968. Thank you for posting.

  • @sandman19681012 Excellent, I'm glad you enjoyed.

    :-)

  • Very touching. Thanks for posting your memories of Disneyland and your family with us all.

  • @GinaToySculptor Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed.

  • nature's wonderland?

  • How was your Super8 Transfered and edited...Amazing quality...

  • @you2b55 Thanks.

It was transferred to VHS in 1986 by a one hour photo place (don't know which process they used at the time, sadly). Last year after I stumbled upon the old cassette, I "fed" it into my PC with RCA cables in order to capture an MPG of it.

  • u truly lived it j

  • i liked this video beautiful and lovely

  • Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed.

Lucky for me I had camera happy parents and grandparents.

    :-)

  • Very cool!

  • Ahhhh the Teacup Ride! I can feel the vomit in the back of my throat now..

  • wow very cool footage not many people keep that old stuff anymore.

  • Thanks. Yeah I'm glad I stumbled across this. Thought it was long gone.

  • I'm not sure I'd refer to you at that age as "old faithful".

Unless your parents weren't too quick with the diaper. :)

  • LMAO!

I've missed your humor around here, Jim.

    :-)

  • Very cool retro moment, very nice to capture a small moment in time. Thanks for sharing.

  • One of the coolest things about this site is taking the opportuinty to share.

    Thanks for watching.

  • That was a way cool ride :)

  • And you didn't have to use up any ride tickets.

    ;-)

  • i don't remember the tea cups spinning around so fast and on so many axes. looks way scarier than i remember...

  • LOL!

I'm sure you commented knowing that it had to be a film record speed issue, but I love that you said it. Too freakin' funny

  • Very cool - when I was a youngen - we went to Palisades Amusement Park in NJ - long gone - like many others.

  • We can't control when the amusement parks close down but we can at least take our memories with us as we exit.

  • this totally rocked! thank you for sharing that with us.

  • Very cool video Curt. Must have brought back some great memories for you.

  • wow that was totally cool!!! I'm totally subscribing and hope that you will continue to upload more of this vintage footage!!

When will you upload your next vintage clip??? Huh Huh??? when???

  • As soon as you share your Cheerios recipe, betch!

    LULZ

  • Vintage family footage... How cool is that?

I really regret that my family didn't have a movie camera and use it a lot when I was growing up...

If only I could send a camera and SD cards through time!

  • Fun thing to fantasize about... I think I'd send a camera back in time to record court procedings when my parents divorced.

Yeah, that's kinda sick, I know, but I'm totally serious. LOL

  • Nice. A family's outing. - roc

  • nice little time capsule, mate.

  • This was a very good dedication. I loved it.

  • Curt - this was beautiful - music was perfect! Setting the mood - dreamy memories of your past...

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Great stuff Curt.

Isn't it good that we can now re-use that old footage that we'd left sitting in cupboards, or the attic. A whole new lease of life for the film & a reminder of past lives for ourselves :)

  • so you were too small to ride the teacups - lucky they left you with the camera to get some footage of the big day!

  • That was so cool Curt. Glad you found the tape and thanks for sharing it with us all.

You really were a little cutie there.

  • Wow Curt that was great. Memories like that are priceless

  • WOW! Just WOW!

    I'm speechless Curt...

  • That was so special! Ah you were such a doll and still are lol

This is quite the treasure (((Curt)))

  • Quality footage

There needs to be more of this sort of vid on the youtubes.

  • Gotta love the teacups, they are a favourite with kids the world over! Loved it, Curt!:)

  • That was awesome! Thanks for sharing it Curt.

  • Wow - ok my first comment didnt go. Ill make this go captn! How great to see the magical kingdom from 1968. It must of seemed even more magical back then. What a cute baby, im sure you could of snuck on those tea cups!! :D 8mm is so great and Old Faithful looked huge!

  • I know you were a baby when this was made, but I was curious if you had any actual memories of the vacation. It's amazing (and interesting to me) the things you can remember from early in life, especially if it's a momentus event, like a trip to Disney.

  • This was very very cool!

  • Amazing footage Curt....and I subscribed to you because of the video about Atheism and a crybaby Christian. I haven't seen any more videos like that, but I'm still subscribed.

  • Haven't been at old faithful for a long time. need to go its only 3 hrs from where I AM.

  • Awesome clip! It's kind of upsetting that they didn't allow you to go on the rides, though. A little duct tape and some rope goes a long way to keep you in your seat. ;)

  • oh wow...

1968 was such a monumental year for the country and me personally. This film reflects an innocent side to it, the end of one era and the beginning of another...

    and I know you know I'm old enough to remember Disneyland then and was way old enough to ride the tea cups! (and did) ;~}

    thanks for sharing.

  • great footage! i'm sharing this with my BF....who's 4th generation L.A. ; )

  • Awwe...Well just look at you in your little hat so cute. Thx so much Curt. I went to DL also back in early 60's. I really do not remember too much. I was 6.

Very sweet vid! Thx for sharing!

    HugZ sugar! JoJo

  • 8mm is great - I have some footage of my great grandparents posing as if the camera took stills. Those precious 19th century-born Luddites!

  • I love it! Over the years I have enjoyed the evolution of Disneyland. Thanks for sharing!

Sending my happy Alice in Wonderland thoughts through the looking-glass.

    ♡ ƙarolyn

  • Very cool footage, Curt! Yayy!!!

    -- Matt

  • SO COOL!! wook at widdle Currt...srry couldn't resist :)

GREAT footage. Cherish it - I know I do ..what little I have of me as a tyke. :P

  • Great video. I wish we had video of us when we were kids.

  • This is so cool! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • Amazing that even though you were too small to ride the teacups, you were still able to run a video camera. Weren't they much larger back then? o_O

Also, I wasn't even born in 1968. Just sayin'!

    :P

Beautiful video Curt! Great use of music.

  • beautiful... i love old 8mm footage. I watched a short documentary about Disneyland today, so it's funny seeing your video here :)

  • It's so cool to watch old footage. There is this incredible sentimental thing that happens and warmth just fills up the soul. Thank you so very much for sharing this Curt. Very cool that you got to see Old Faithful!

  • wow this brought a tear to my eyes.. brought back time gone bye

  • Loved it, very moving

  • Oh Curt this is so precious and brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for sharing it!

  • Oh wow!!! you've outdone yourself this time with the vintage footage Curt!!!

    Very cool!

  • It all goes by in the blink of an eye.

Wonderful to have such memories preserved Curt. Thanks for sharing.

    hugs, Chris

  • man i love home videos from the past, they always seem to have this sort of quality and grit to them that is both fascinating and dreamlike. even if the videos are of bad times, they always have a feel like they are better than here and now.

maybe its that they seem so dreamlike that makes me like what i see that much more...

    ...cause i love to dream.

  • Awesome footage! I need to dig through more of my old VHS tapes and find more old footage of myself as a kid.

I can't imagine how large, and expensive video cameras were back then!

  • They were pricey and tended to be on the large side.

Johnreagannumber1 collects video equipment from the 80s and has shown a bunch of his cameras before. Cool vintage stuff.

  • Yeah, I've seen some of his cool vintage stuff. It's hard to find old stuff like that in good working condition. I have a VHS camcorder from 1991 or 1992, but it stopped working for some reason. My stupid clone once thought it was a high definition VHS camcorder.

  • In 1975 my husband and I went on our honeymoon there. Hardly anything there as today...

What a grand tribute to your grandparent.

I have two grandchildren living with me. I only hope they remember me such as you did in this video of your grandparent, mother, etc..I still say you are a loving soul, but dont tell anyone I said so.. :) Maybe thats why I like you.....

  • Thanks.

If they're under the same roof with you, then you will definitely be remembered fondly.

  • Very cool! I would have been there the year before at the age of 12. Prolly at Old Faithful too, my mom loved the tourist stuff. When I was much older I would get drunk at the Disney Hotel, hop on the monorail and do the park smashed. The lines went so much faster that way.

  • LOL!

Best comment I've read all day.

    Thanks, Boomer

    :-D

  • I found this quite moving. I'm not sure why. I'll chalk it up to seeing Baby Curt; or the sixties fashion.

  • Or maybe the 60s hair-do's.

  • Beautiful memories Curt! I still remember the "ticket" system at Disney!

  • Yep, same here. When my grandfather died in '95 we found some old booklets of unused tickets. Not sure what we did with them, but hopefully at least my uncle saved them.

(he had grown up during the Depression so he was prone to saving anything and everything... we never fully realized this until going through his belongings).

  • Woot!!! I wish I could find some old footage. With me that's not going to happen though because no one in the family was ever into videotaping anything:( I hope you found a few other nuggets along with this! One of these days I'm going to do a photo slideshow vid though. I've got lots of boxes of photos to rummage through.

Lots of people are interested in this type of stuff. I recently put a book on Ebay about 6 Flags/Atlanta circa 1975 or so. It sold in about 2 seconds.

  • Wow, either that person showed up at the perfect time or they kept doing searches until your listing came up.

Theme parks are apparently huge on the web, come to find out. I was surprised but... not surprised, if that makes any sense. When I randomly did a search for "old disneyland footage" a ton of clips came up.

Sorry to hear there's no classic Blinkazoid footage, but I'm curious to see the old photos. I think you did share one snapshot a couple years ago but I forget the context.

  • I think I've probably done about 10 snapshots. A few for my "Show me your best pictures of yourself" video and a few more as a vid response to Hippyfied1's video asking us to show some High School pics.

  • AH yes! Now I remember.

  • Thanks for this great footage, Curt. Disneyland was my favorite experience in life as a kid. I'd go for my birthday each year and couldn't sleep for weeks ahead of time in anticipation. My parents would have to save for months for a family trip there, because in the early 60s it would cost a family of four $20.00 for the day, not including meals!

  • In the 60s that was a huge chunk of change.

I can relate. I felt the same way about it as a kid. Can't recall now how old I was when the Disney stuff ceased to resonate with me (perhaps in my early twenties when I worked retail, lol).

And, ya know, even though the dollar amounts are different now, it's still something to save up for. When I saw what the current admission price for just one person was, I gasped loudly.

  • this would make me all nostalgic except that i'm canadian. when i took my son there he got the flu and threw up all over some indiana jones ride. lots of fun. as to comment boxes, you're right i hardly ever read them, my bad as the kiddies say.

  • AngryAussie made a video once announcing that he would no longer answer questions in the comment sections if they were things addressed in the videos' descriptions. I think I need to finally jump on board with that line of thinking.

And, yikes @ the barfing incident! lol

  • I was there in 1967 at age 7 with my Pop. We were visiting from Cocoa Beach Fl before Disney came to Orlando . My Dad was employed by NASA and we were in that area for some reason,,,can not remember why, but it was just he and I,,and it was special, He is dieing of Cancer now at age 82.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your father.

Ya know, I sometimes forget that this park really is a touchstone for millions of people.

  • I really enjoyed this. I grew up in Westminster California and Disneyland has always been my special place. I liked it better when it was just the park and Hotel with out the whole resort. It was kind of like a magical island stuck in the middle of the city. Now it seems to have taken over part of the city. And all of the cool 60's motels and things are gone now :( Its still nice, but I guess things will always seem more perfect when you where a kid.

  • Exactly and I can relate. There was a charm to the old park that seemed conspicuously absent during my most recent visit. The original parking lot is now that California Adventure thing and what used to be a real neighborhood of homes is just a gargantuan parking structure. Makes ya wonder how much of Anaheim itself they plan to eat up.

  • Oh gosh, brings back memories for me.

Perhaps I was 7 or 8 going to Disneyland.

    I remember 2 things.

The teacups and the elephant ride.... maybe Dumbo?

I remember my dad on the elephant ride with me.

One of 2 pleasant memories of my dad.

  • Yep, that was the Dumbo ride I think.

And only 2 were pleasant? Yikes!

  • I was there in '70 and still have my Mickey Mouse fork and spoon set at Moms, my nephews fight over them:-)

  • Cool! Those are apparently collector items now.

  • wait.... you were, lets say older than 3, in '68? hmm that would make you ....... how old? :p

    Great footage.

  • Nobody reads the description boxes apparently.

  • @OhCurt well fine, pretend to be a baby. We all know ... we. all. know.

that was supposed to be dramatic... I don't think it was

  • This made me smile. Great post! :)

  • Thanks. I wasn't sure if this would have any value outside of being here for classic Disney fans to search for.

  • Curt,

1968...I lived in Los Angeles. I remember seeing Disneyland...from afar...Great video. Okay, so I cried at the end...I miss my grandparents, too...

    Thanks,

    Ronnie

  • I don't think we ever stop missing them, Ronnie.

    :-)

  • That made me want to cry. It was so sweet.

  • Thanks, PB (and hopefully I'm right in assuming that would've been a good cry)

    :o)

  • Sis was born in California when I was two... So if we went I do not recall... This allowed me to fantasize I was... Mucho Gracias...

  • Actually, I have you to thank for my decision to post this, Stu. Seeing how you've used your family's old reels helped inspire me.

    So thanks!

  • LOL simultaneous posts...

  • As you know I use LOTS of old home movies footage and it was delightful to see you do the same...

  • HA! Great tuberminds think in sync, right?

I still have more than 30 minutes worth of the other non-day-at-disney stuff that I might figure out a way to use, but I guess there's no rush. Now that it's in digital form on my PC I don't have to worry about it decaying.

  • Same here backed up on three different Terabyte external HDs... Cause HDs die... Had some close calls

  • That so cool Curt! You're very lucky to have so much from your past and family!

Thanks so much fro sharing that!!

I haven't heard you mention your parents ...are they still around?

  • Mom and dad divorced yeeeears ago and I no longer have contact with him, but she's still around, yeah.

  • Nothing beats the old school family memories.

  • We can't go back but I guess we're lucky if we can occasionally hit the 'replay' button.

  • What a sweet young thing you were (are)!

  • Were is right. Now I'm a total bad ass.

*flexes biceps and grunts macho style*

  • LOL!!

  • So beautiful it made me cry! I am such a sap....but I loved it, thanks for sharing with all of us!

  • From one sap to another, thanks for watching!

  • OMG, what great precious footage you have there Curt, fantastic!

  • Thanks goes to my relatives who were smart enough not to just trash the 8mm reels after they became obsolete.

    :-)

  • Amen to them!

  • OMG, curt this is so cool.

Thank you for sharing it with us !

This could so be used in a commercial.

    **Kisses**

  • (((Sonia)))

If Disney wants to use it for that, they'll have to pay the big cash mone.

    I needs mah bling, yo!

  • *money

..ugh, I guess if I can't spell it, this would explain why I have so little of it.

  • About the baby in 00:06 - 00:13

Oh my gosh, Curt - was that tiny little fluff-fluff you in the mommy's arms?

  • Guilty!

    ;-)

  • So cute! It's the same face from your "Gimme A Sexy Look, Man!" video. *Chuckle!*

  • LOL

Oh dear... yeah, this would explain A LOT

  • Year I was born! Nice vid - enjoyed! :-)

  • Hey, same here.

Let's face it, it was a fun year to enter the world.

    :-)

  • OMG curt, this was sooo fantastic! What a treasure!

  • Thanks - I was pretty choked up when I found the tape. For the last 12 years I assumed it was toast.

  • I can only imagine that you were choked up! What a beautiful thing to find and reminisce! The music is perfect as well!

  • Thank goodness for Incompetech!

    :-)
