OMG...All these years since this song came out, I thought it was a black dude singing it and now finding out it's 6 white guys..haha!! Go on Exile, you got soul too!! One of my FAVORITE all time songs!!
4 days ago u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. copy and paste to be saved
No need to be personal-I just wanted to find out if there were two versions of the song. I'm quite capable of and willing to visit a music store, thanks!!! Someone needs to chill out! LOL!
@smoodyroo - Hey, there were two versions of this song, both by Exile. They went country and re-recorded it for their first "country" album. They had a string of hits as a country act.
wish they would release all there pop albums before they went country 'stage pass 'mixed emotions' all there is 'don;t leave me this way'all great albums we need them on cd .you cant buy any of there pop albums on cd and its a'shame
Love this song, however performance was lip synched with (LOL) Aan Parsons on the left (LOL) , Mullet on the left (Buzz) No Arp Strings with EH phaser being played, BUZZ was lazy that night. Sorry for being hard.
The "long-haired" guy was Jimmy Stokley who is no longer with us. J.P. Pennington is the lead guitarist who wrote or co-wrote most of the hits. They started around 1963 playing in Richmond and Lexington, Ky. and various eastern Kentucky sites in the late 60's. The were the bar band at Family Dog in Richmond, Ky during my days at EKU in the early 70's often playing many school dances.and followed us to Daytona during our spring breaks. Good guys-very approachable. remember Jim's 50's Buick?
You're absolutely right! This song is amazing. And the singing at the beginning is very sexy and sneaky. Sometimes I just play the beginning over and over again (I am slightly ashamed to admit!!).
I just love this song. I didn't know until not long ago who was the group that sang the song. I was so saddened to know that Jimmy passed away so young. I can hear the song "over and over again"..... Btw: I lived in Ky not far from Richmond and I didn't know he was from that area. So sad.
I was one of the fortunate ones that dated Jimmy Stokley in the late 1960's. I was going to school at Richmond University and met him at a bar,he was playing called "SPECKS".Not only was he a great entertainer he was a sweet and good person.I was glad to know him.
At that time the band was called Jimmy Stokley and the Exiles, and later they dropped Jimmy's name.
Such as shame his life was cut short- he could have gone as far as he wanted.
I did not see this before I posted my response earlier. Jim did not know me but everytime I was near him or around him he was very friendly and would talk with me. One time in during spring break in Daytona I ran into him and the band at a hotel lobby where they were playing and he invited me in to a party. I always wondered if he recognized me from previous meetings. "SPECKS" changed to Family Dog during my first year at EKU. Do you remember that gray 50's Buick he would drive around EKU
I can"t say that I remember the car, but I bet that jJimmy did remember you, when he invited you to the party, He was a good to everybody. I just found out last year that he past away, and was devasted, he was so talented. He obviously left an impression on you as well.
I went to EKU from 66 to 68 and I'll have to say-it was the best time ever.
I was there 71-75. That was when he would drive the car around the "circle" and stop and talk with students. I think it was a 56-58 Buick with big whitewall tires. I was driving through Death Valley in the summer of 1978 at night because my van did not have air when I heard the DJ out of LA say "Here's a band from Ky called "Exile" that is going to hit it big, "Kiss You All Over." I could not believe it since I had not followed them since I left EKU and moved out of the area. Never forget.
drnrg31, the longhaired singer is Jimmy Stokley. He was with the band when they formed in the early '60's up till 1979 (the year after this song came out). I never met him but I've heard he was a really nice, fun guy and I've heard the same about the other band members. Sadly, Jimmy passed away in August 1985 from liver failure :(
