patrickandfrani, I was also saddend by word of the fire. However the dome is still there, but without it's "skin". The pavilion within has been renovated and is now used as an environmental sciences museum called Biosphère. It is still a very attractive and unique landmark.

I actually saw the dome smoking from my workplace in a skyscraper. (I had also worked at Expo 67!)

That was actually a broken heart moment for me, I really hoped it would stay up forever. I left Montreal in the 90's, is the skeleton still there?

yes it is, the use it for a museum for the water or something like that.
the skeleton was repaint in the 90's and its in good shape.

of coarse its there, since 1967 its been the environment museum for a long time now!
look up montreal grand prix and you will see them race next to it
