The statistics of serious, even deadly crashes involving young teens being distracted by driving with friends in the car are alarming, and of course texting while driving is just as dangerous, probably more dangerous. Since no girls seem to go five minutes without texting, if I were a teen with a girlfriend who drives, I'd already be pre-planning for her funeral.
In Canada we get a "g1" at age 16 if we pass a written test, then we can drive with a licenced driver. in 1 year, or 8 months if you take drivers ed and pass, you can go for your G2 which allows you to drive with one person under age of 19 with you in the car, and you can drive by yourself. then a year after that you can go for your "G" licence and then you can drive with how ever many people you want :P
Interesting how things change. When I was growing up in Idaho and I don't know if this is still the case. you could get a license at 14 and drive with a parent till 15 when you are 15 you can drive by yourself but not at night and no restriction on who to drive with then when you are 16 you can drive at night. I move to Utah when I was 21 and they have those rules you talk about here except I think you have to drive with someone over at least 18 or over or by yourself.
