  • dudes:there's a reason why Radio's covering one of the best tunes evr

  • lol Ed ain't got nothin to do :(

  • This is as good as covers get. Short of New Order performing it themselves, this is it.

4 English lads playing the songs they grew up with and loved as kids. You can see the love they have for this song in their playing, everyone's getting lost in the moment.

  • I like Radiohead and all, but this version sticks too close to the Joy Division one without offering anything new to justify not just listening to the original.

  • Brilliant parroting of fragile little creatures in the quest for re-enacting their first goosebumps, touching, really lovely. Well done!

  • RAWWR!

  • bravo!

  • This song is perfection, nobody can ruin it.

  • Brilliant.

  • that's why God created music...

  • GO ON JONNY!

  • new order is better!! even then joy division!!

  • @HELLZORBLADE

How could New Order be better when they'd lost one of the great lyricist of all time?

  • @x420stonedpanda they better cause they alive and kicking!! they dont need curtis to do nothing!!

  • @x420stonedpanda Cuz Barney is a great lyricist himself...And was responsible for the sound of JD... Both are great bands and both have strong cases for who's the better band of the two, But im personally sick of these Ian Curtis maniacs who act like once you hear the almighty JD you can't listen to NO or any other band... The world didn't cease to exist after Ian died, New Order is proof of that

  • Does my head in people arguing who wrote and who deserves credit for Ceremony.Well yes Curtis wrote it and it was first done by Joy Division but Curtis died and New Order released it to pay homage to their fallen vocalist..Curtis deserves credit for writing a classic and New Order deserve credit for making it a classic...Radiohead did a good cover

  • @Gaffer96 yeah what he/she said!!!

  • OMG what a fuggin fantastic cover, thank you so much for posting it. New Order = my youth

  • you cannot play it

  • Oh look, Ed is playing a bass.

  • its too fast, they've lost the beauty of this song in the pace :(

  • @melzarose There's a 7" single version that's very similar to this "cover"--actually more of an homage by Radiohead than a cover--it's nearly identical at times.

Love it when greats like Thom Yorke try to reach for the art of THEIR muses!

  • awsome

  • I miss you Ian!

  • Love this song!! Love Radiohead! Love Joy Division more!!

  • Comment removed

  • not really a fan of radiohead but this joy division cover is brilliant!!!!!!!

gonna check out thier other stuff now!!!

  • I just love reading the comments on here.....can't people just F'IN enjoy the song/video rather than bitch and complain about who's F'IN right!!!

  • great cover, tonnes of energy.good job

  • Excellent cover

  • all theses people talking in comments thinking it actually matters, thinking they matter.

  • Ode to Joy Division! I love this concept. Later blokes showing their influences. I love JD and Radiohead!

  • @cuijilladas That's all well and good....doesn't mean I have to as well........doesn't mean they're above doing shit covers of shit bands.

  • @quidseeker nah, but I'd say they are above you. their likes > your likes

  • @breakingsilver That's interesting because I have a simple rubrick for you yea: my dick > your dick.

  • @quidseeker You can love a band not only by it's technique but also by the passion, and the feeling it exudes. For instance, Buckethead is an awesome guitarist yet Bernard Sumner (currently on New Order) appeals to my heart, if you catch my drift.

OFF-TOPIC:Does your name refer to the current desire of most artists to get money fast by using un-hearted music to appeal the mindless crowd?

  • @efusiongaming No, my name is much nerdier than that: Quidditch Seeker. I see your point but I honestly felt zero passion in this cover. You can't say that they're doing something good or aesthetically pleasing and be 100% true; there will always be differing opinions won't there? I've always felt that the Edge's guitar-work was better than Bono's vocals, but that's just me, and I may be in a minority but I dont give a shit.

  • @quidseeker Did you ever fucking hear Bono's vocals on running to stand still? Seriously... AND insulting RHEAD? damn someone needs to call Cunt Control.

  • @koalajones88 go fuck yourself you little piece of wanker sperm. everyone knows what a douche bag you are. go turn on your top 40 radio station and be gone for good. quick her comes you mom, hide the playboy.

  • @koalajones88 You are such a dumb ass. Thank you for proving what a numb nuts you are by pulling that chart ranking bullshit. Like I said you should stick with your wank-ass, dip-shit friends who use chart rankings to determine the value of music. Charts DO NOT RANK QUALITY asswipe! They rank sales and just because the masses buy shit doesn't mean it's good. But you can't comprehend that with your pea brain. Geezuz you're such a pud. Past your bedtime, and take your thumb out of your ass.

  • @koalajones88 You know NOTHING about music history because you are a WANKER FIRST CLASS. Joy Division exploded onto the Manchester scene and BUILT it. The Hacienda was the place to be in all of England at the time. Geezuz go read some history and stop showing your ignorance little grasshopper.

  • @koalajones88 this jackass knows NOTHING about music. He's just a top 40 WANKER. Go back to your sand box little boy and stop pissing your pants in public.

  • @koalajones88 It is obvious you know jack shit about music. Please go play with your top 40 wankers and formulaic song writing idiots who don't understand invention. They really know sad sack songwriting that will fall in the dust heap of music history.

  • @koalajones88 Radio Hack can't touch New Order, and Ceremony is considered one of the best of the early 80's. It was written by Joy Division, but I doubt you know who they are.

  • RH butchered the shit out of this, Wankers!

  • this is watered down wanky shite! Galaxie 500 is much much better.

  • *______________*

  • Galaxie 500 has more power to their version. FTW.

  • Galaxie 500 has more power to their song. FTW.

  • absolutely the best cover i've heard EVER!!!! but it is Joy Division i might add

  • Literally the best cover I have ever seen.

  • @gloryglorytottenham then you clearly havent seen much. galaxie 500 own this cover.

  • @BornAgainBabyJesus Fucking right you are !!! Look RH is amazing, but Dean's voice is haunting, and their stripped, raw version is I think the best.....

  • Where's the other guitarist??

  • genial essa musica

  • as much as i hate Radiohead this is a really good cover.

  • Why should a drummer not look like he is working hard. Good musicians dont give a f_ck what they look like playing.

  • i can not get enough of this song, earphones in for four minutes of pure class!

radioheads newest convert thank u ta

  • koalajones88 suck a dick you fuck!

  • drummer looks likes he's working too hard

  • @TheWisetheman he always looks like he is working hard! it's the manner in which he plays he has that jazz flourish down praise the man for working hard! don't diss him

  • Radiohead play this song better than the new order ...

Ian Curtis was an accomplished poet. Song full of energy

  • Radiohead should always plays Radiohead. This cover brings nothing to the original. They are as bad as U2 at cover.

  • @koalajones88 By the way I'm not sure the Beatles would appreciate somebody who clearly knows fuck all about music argueing for there corner

  • @koalajones88 those who simply listen to music for music, it's abundently clear that you don't, have you ever listened to Unknown Pleasures?, the next to nobody that gave a shit about Joy Division are the people that listen to music for music, why bring up hits and commercial impact if you listen to music for music? If you want hits and commercial impact then stick with Lady Ga Ga you prick

  • Comment removed

  • Jonny's Telecaster is SWEET. I want one like that :3

  • Ceremony is not a new order song, it's was wrotten by ian curtis, never recorded but played in live by joy division...

  • @Alkyani New Order = Joy Division without Ian Curtis. They played it as both bands.

  • @Alkyani Joy Division = New Order with another singer. Melody is the same as in joy division version. The fact that Curtis died doesn't mean that the rest don't have rights to the song. Before you comment on stuff you should know some basics.

  • @Dagrimzorz Oh - I hear you. And understand.

I believe stongly that God owns everything on this planet anyways - I mean he made everything. No one can make claim to anything that isn't theirs and belongs to God - The government and corporations want the money - go right ahead KEPP IT! It's cursed anyway - Who wants & needs a bank full of $ when it's cursed? LOL

Anyway - I do go on, excellent message you wrote brother

    God Bless

  • @robbiek77 You even got it more deep. The thing is we shouldn't consider bands only as musicians but also as a group of friends. Curtis was the singer of Joy Division and after he died they reformed as new order with a new singer. So Ceremony is new order song and joy division song. They are actually almost the same band. A tribute to Curtis has been made by new order making this song again after his death. For such great songs all artists have the right to remix it as far as they respect it.

  • @Alkyani JoyDivision regrouped to form New Order after his passing. Regardless, this song is amazing.

  • @Alkyani Actually Joy division did record ceremony, you may find it on the heart and soul compilation.

  • @Alkyani Well, no Joy Division wrote the music, Ian Curtis wrote the lyrics so it is a Joy Division song but Sumner/Hook/Morris wrote as well as Curtis. New Order deserve the acclaim aswell...

  • @koalajones88 Get the stick out of your ass and stop spitting shit. I feel like the next thing you say is that the Beatles were only mediocre at best. If you can't hear how fucking awe-inspiring Joy Division's "Disorder" or New Order's "Temptation" are, I'm sincerely sorry that you are that deaf to the some of my favorite music. Have a nice life waiting to state your opinion rather than actually listening to a composition.

  • I have loved radiohead forever.

It sounds likes a mix cover:

Vocals from Joy Division's original, Music from New Order's version.

  • HEAVEN KNOWS IT'S GOT TO BE THIS TIME!

  • Why is Ed playing Colins bass?

  • sounds fuckin brilliant boys but am joy division forever but your fuckin the best.great fuckin cover fantastic

  • damn. feels good to see both jonny and thom ripping up the guitar punk-style like that. ah man, wish radiohead did that more often....

  • just enjoy the beauty this guys bring into your world!!!!!! then shut the fuck up if you have nothing good to say will ya

  • crap

  • Levis , MAYBE /

  • @koalajones88 hehe -- getting your daily trolling done? Mommy got you a few minutes on the computers I see. Go wipe your arse with little nitwit comments, because believe me you're lonely and alone for a reason.

  • blab blablablablabla, no one cares

    cos this video ROCKS

  • @koalajones88 I think your an idiot. Velvet Underground didnt get the attention they deserved when the were around either and now they're a critically acclaimed and highly influential band. Maybe someone committed suicide there too huh?

  • Comment removed

  • @ncuco Right on! What a fucking twat! As if making the charts are an indication of musical talent! Look who are on the charts today! Like the fucking masses and record co execs have a clue. Most people don't understand true genius and see it as weird. Radiohead is the rare exception to get critical acclaim and stay true innovators. Rock on RH and JD. Two bands that will forever be great at least for those who have a clue about music!

  • @TheSonicchick Of course charts don't matter but WHAT A FUCKING HYPOCRITE you are! You always seem to agree with comments claiming NO are SHITE! Follow your own comments for a week and one would actually think Sonic Youth wrote the lyrics to SCHIZOPHRENIA just for you. Lard. No CREDIBILITY at all.

  • @koalajones88 Oh christ here you are again. Your talking about bands that were around well before you were born. You are too young to actually know anything , either you are taking the piss by knocking some of the most critically acclaimed bands in UK history or you are a complete fucking idiot. Which one is it ? Either way you arent going to win.

  • @cullyvan you are so right--this koalajones is a fucking idiot. every time he opens his mouth shit pours out.

  • @cullyvan forget arguing with koalajones88. he's a complete fucking wanker who knows nothing about music. ah there he goes again, he just shit his pants in public.

  • @cullyvan Nah, definately a Joy Division song. Also one of the beauties of Joy Division and New Orders music is that its still applicable today, so you didn't have to only be around when it was made to appreciate it. New Order releasing it was a tribute to Ian's memory, a way of letting people know its a new band but the things that went before would shape the new bands music.

  • great cover!

  • I'd have to say that the Galaxie 500 recording is the definitive version.

  • good one

  • As if I couldn't be in love with Thom Yorke any more he goes and does this...

  • Awesome job, guys!

  • 2:53 Great piano playing!!

  • One of my favorite bands covering another of my favorite bands. HEAVEN!!!!!

  • Can anyone say Phil Selway?!?!?!?!?!?

  • uhh.. ceremony is a joy division song

  • @goo5o technically yes but it was NO's first single

  • damn, new found respect for radiohead. crushed it

  • Just great.

  • God this is amazing, what a cover :)

  • Just shows how awesome Selway is on drums. He super excels on this track. Just amazing!

  • Just shows how awesome Selway is on drums. He super excels on this track. Just amazing!

  • uckin great!!!!!

  • diamond in the rough cover by radiohead on new order's ceremony

  • this is a gem!

  • Galaxie 500's version can't be beaten.

  • geat cover..! not so fan of radiohed, but it is an excelent version

  • best version Joy Division, second Radiohead and third shitty New Order

  • Crackin' version!

  • Great cover!!!

  • i want to be that microphone.

  • @ajchimei Don't we all..

  • @SombreSeraph damn straight on galaxie ... they had the attitude to deliver this

  • This is good, but the fact that's so faithful to the original makes it kind of boring. I have to say I prefer the Galaxie 500 cover better.

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever and Radiohead is my favorite band. This is just 4:19 of win :D

  • @SombreSeraph I like your comment whether or not i agree...It's just nice to wake up the chumps that hear the G-500 version and think it's not good...Dean at least puts his own stamp on it. Radiohead are just fucking around and their such a great band they did a chameleons job in the studio.

  • pretty bad cover, thom's voice doesn't fit at all

  • great cover, but noone can do better than Joy Division..They´ll be forever the ONE

  • great cover!

  • very good version, but new order still steals my heart ...

  • The twin basses sound great. Cleva o' 'em.

  • oh my god what an awesome cover even better than the original

  • NO ONE could have done a better job, then radiohead, on this timeless, priceless joy division tune. awesome cover version

  • @CollectorOfMusic hey galaxie 500's version is da BEST. check it out yerself :-)

  • @CollectorOfMusic

    Absoluely

  • @CollectorOfMusic

im pretty sure that you forgot about xiu xiu version, feliz dia, galaxie 500, and polsh one with slow tune :>

  • @CollectorOfMusic Galaxie 500 also does a great cover of this song. i'll tell you right now, it's slow, but that's the point. still very good imho.

  • Just a cover..its almost like.."we can do it better live"? Definitely not "better"...its a cover!!!

  • Good band covering a good song. Period.

  • Can't help but feel it'd be better if Thom didn't press his lips right up to the mic.

  • Fucking Awesome ! ! !( ̄^ ̄ゞ

  • great cover

  • joy division

  • ```

  • nice shirt, jonny

  • @ProPerfection I kno could the dude look more sweet?

  • deny fuck wthese lads.they sound so fkn good.majic

  • Shambles. Pissed out of their heads.

    Where's the bass player?

    Bloody brilliant though.

  • musical geniuses covering musical icons...what could be better

  • @jskala4

    shit?

  • wow, they look like they're having fun. They should try it more often.

  • Joy Division*

  • Intimidation is the highest form of flattery.....

  • imitation* idiot.

  • Haha, yeah, that'll be it ;)

  • OMG their joy division fans a never knew you could sometimes tell with their music but i had no idea to be honest

  • Fuckin' hilarious.

  • Ceremony of JOY DIVISION! you are wrong

  • II'm just happy they curbed not only their own desire to produce as much weirdity as possible but the natural instinct many artists have to over electrocize New Order tunes when they cover them. It's always nice to hear Radiohead just play rock music without all the extra pish they like to add.

  • this songs so haunting n the lyrics r so creepy its amazing

  • This is actually a good cover of an amazing song. I'm not too surprised though, it is Radiohead.

  • 0:00 - 0:14

Blebleblebelbeblebelbebelbe not now not now stop stop not now

    lol

  • I think that Ian Curtis is one of a number of rock's fallen heroes. He left this earth before his time but by his own choice. What a great talent. He isn't missed enough.

  • If ian had lived this would have been number one (big thing in the 70's) after what happened its one of the lost classic songs, ian never recorded the vocals properly.

I was a massive joy division fan but was allways dissapointed with new order. Ians Death left a gap in my life that will never be filled ,so many songs left unwritten so much promise left unfullfiled :( there will never be anyone to replace him.

  • you made me sad :(

  • sorry silent, but it was very sad when he died, his music was so full of promise .

looking back now at the performances and music you can see how heavily influenced he was by bowie and iggy,if only someone would emerge who had been influenced heavily by ians music.

  • so true

  • There is a plethora of artists influenced by Ian around at the moment. Admittedly, none of them even come close to him.

  • oh... pretty heaven. this makes me fly.

  • One word..... TUNE!

  • what ?? tune?? you mean tune up the guitar? nah fuck that leave it loose..

  • muitissimo booom!!! Afude!!!

  • nice

  • This was originally Joy Division with Ian Curtis (RIP) on vocals, it was recorded againe with Bernard Sumner when they became New Order. One of the greatest songs ever. Good cover though :-)

  • I thought Ian died before he could record the vocals

  • Per Wikipedia: There are two recorded Joy Division versions of the song in existence. The first available on the Still album is from their final concert at High Hall, Birmingham University on May 2, 1980, sixteen days before Curtis' suicide. The second, available on the Heart and Soul four-disc box set is from a rehearsal tape made in April/May 1980. In both recordings, the vocals are only partially audible.
