Quade64 -> I hate the myth about ammount of strings determening your level of musicianship... Ammount of strings determines your note range, not your skill. Some people find extended range basses more difficult than regular basses just because they get lost between the strings/forget them/etc.

I think that the volume is simply to demonstrate his playing. He's showing off his ability to play the song, which might need to be turned up with the technicallity of this music. Necrophagist's music is extremely technical, and the bass might need to be turned up in this scenario to show just how technical it really is. Horns up, though.
