I'm alsot certain that, briefly, there was a Science Fiction Theatre on channel 7 too, with a mad scientist. Did I hallucinate that? I know there was a science fiction theatre on channel 13 on - was it Saturday or Sunday afternoons?
Like everyone else,l would stay up Friday nights to watch Nightmare Theater double features but what l liked the best was the Count's guests and "friends",did he have a skull for his girlfriend, named Pamela?
Wow... I remember waiting for Friday nights and Nightmare Theater's Double Feature. I'd seldom stay awake through the second movie. It it is great to read all the coments and see that this cheesy little local show meant as much to others as it did for me. This is why the internet is great...well...this and porn...
Yes, yet another Vancouver-raised maniac who grew up on this, 'J.P. Patches' and later 'Nightcap Theater', or "Nightcap Thee-ate-or" as the dude with the pomp and gold chains used to say.
I DON"T BELIEVE IT!!! I haven"t seen this since I was a kid. I used to stay up late Friday nights to watch some great- and not so great monster movies on good "ol Channel 7 (didn"t they have double features for awhile in the late 60"s/early 70"s?). Love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I DON"T BELIEVE IT!!! I haven"t seen this since I was a kid. I used to stay up late Friday nights to watch all the monster movies I could (didn"t they have double features for awhile in the late 60"s/early 70"s?). Love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is so funny to me now! But I was about 8 back then and he was so creepy and scarey that I never watched. I think he was a producer at Kiro for JP Patches. Joe Tooey? I wish I could laugh like that!
I first remember seeing Kiro Channel 7 Seattle's Count character on television in 1972. He did two promos for Nightmare Theatre. Whenever he appeared on screen, he scared the crap on of me. He even showed a more amusing side of himself when he appeared on a J.P. Patches episode one Saturday morning. Like wild0409 said, it's good to see some footage from Kiro's good ol days and bring back those memories.
Oh My goodness thank you so much for this.... i Use to love him and be afraid of him when i was little... i would make everyone stay up to watch him... and b4 i knew everyone was sleep.... and i was terrified to change the channel he might get me... lmao...
man they do not make movies or shoe like this any more...
never thought I would ever see this again! Brings back lots of memories .Looked forward to Friday nights just to watch the coffin and the vampire ( the movies were secondary ). Enjoyed getting a chill up my spine from just this segment . After tripping over this by channeling surfing , continued to tune in every Friday night. Like everyone who has commented, thanks for posting .
I am another Vancouverite who could not wait until Friday night!
Unfortuntaley, KIRO did not save tapes of this show. They would record over the tapes every week to save money. There are maybe 3 or 4 partial segments left at most.
Used to watch from Vancouver, BC during the 70's. Friday was the highlight of my week as i would look forward to staying up late to watch both features. Late night tv was sure great back then. It was actually entertaining. I remember having sleep overs with friends watching these movies, building monster models and reading horror magazines. Thanks for posting this video, brings back great memories..
I used to watch this every Friday night in Vancouver, B.C. Canada on channel 7 Kiro from Seattle in the late 60's. I was in elementary school at the time. It was always scary watching it in our old house in the basement rec room. I never was able to stay awake for the second feature of the double feature movie. I would fall asleep on the couch in the middle of Dracula or Frankenstein or the Mummy. The introductions by the Count were the highlight of the evening.
I used to watch from Lacey, WA. He introduced me to all the classics. He created a real fun, demented, demonic character. Joe Towey was also the director of the celebrated J. P. Patches show. He passed away in 1989, age 55.
Wonderful stuff! Reminds me of my childhood. I'd try to stay up to watch this, but usually fall asleep by the second feature, and wake up to that indian test pattern about 3am.
KIRO also did a short lived thing on Saturday night called "Science Fiction Theatre' (Horror on Friday night and SciFi on Saturday) with the same guy (I think) doing an impersonation of Boris Karloff in a laboratory with Jacob's ladder electrical charges and everything. Probably ran from 1968 to 1970?
I agree with Wild0409, do you have KIRO archive access?..this is classic!!..thanks so much for posting this,it was a big part of my childhood...thx again and PLEASE post more if you can!!
OMG!!! This brings back so many memories growing up in Normandy Park, a suburb of Seattle! This was mandatory slumber party material back in the day. So many great B grade horror flicks! Thanks for posting!
Yea! It was a great time and a great age. that's when the local
stations were still some what in control from the main network.
before cable took over and 24 hr Tv. I can still remember watching KIRO signing off early in the morning after Nightmared THT around 4am. they always had a video blessing America and the American Flag. Then around 6:45am to 7am on Saturday morning They would start up again with Farm news and then JP Patches. Maybe Kiro's Retro station could again if tapes still around.
As a kid it was always something of a Friday night challenge to stay awake through the "Nightmare Theater" double feature, but what great fun it was - Joe Towey was magnificent. When I think of KIRO the first two associations I have are of "J.P. Patches" and "Nightmare Theatre".
I watched this as often as I could when I was a little kid! It was where I first saw all of those old classics (and not-so classics)! The Count and his cheesy (early) video effects were cool, I was sad when he stopped appearing and the show eventually ended. This is the first time I have seen this since back then, and seeing the tears in the fabric of the coffin lid are bringing me right back to those times!
Wow, my older brother and I never missed Nightmare Theater although I always zonked out before the second feature and then would have to listen to him the next day telling me about all the cool shit I missed. That was frickin' torture, man.
I forgot to add that this was my FIRST exposure to what a vampire was supposed to be. My uncle took a toy box and made it into a coffin for me to play in dressed up like The Count. He called it a "Nightmare Theatre" box!
I so loved this! I haven't seen this in nearly 40 years! It was on channel 7, KIRO in Seattle. I clearly remember the music from this. When my dad and uncle would drive to Seattle to gamble on horseraces at Longacres, I got to watch Nightmare Theater on Friday night.
Thank you so much for posting this. Staying up and watching Nightmare Theater on friday nights was always the highlight of my week as a kid. The Count used to scare the crap out of me. I used to get so mad when a Super Sonics game would pre-empt the show. You don't know how wonderful it is to me that you put this up. I never thought that I would get to see any NIghtmare Theather footage agian.I heard it was all lost.
The count was played by Joe Towey who directed the JP Patches show. I met Joe in 1987 and he was a VERY NICE man. Unfortunately he passed away in 1989 at the age of 55.

@wild0409 I got it from KIRO's website, a few years ago. They had it archived on one of their old web pages. I doubt if it's still there.

My brothers and sisters always made me stay up just long enough to watch me hide behind the couch when the Count started the show.
Then they told me he was friends with JP and I cried.
