This is the guy that gave Shogun his Black Belt... Nino is one of my favorites because I'm flexible too but I wish I could train with him because it's hard to learn just from DVDs :(
Thanks im your new biggest fan and I love the Gogoplata very nice move Im always getting big guys turning back out of omaplata. Elvis is alive I have seen him.
Dude, have you ever done BJJ in your life? Evidently not...
Seriously, where do you people come from? If you haven't rolled, you aren't licensed to comment on the effectiveness of a choke. Period. Your opinion doesn't matter.
FYI though, the gogoplata is a very effective choke, it's just hard to set up. Once it's sunk in though, it's extraordinarily difficult to escape.
u just said it. once its sunk in though. that moment may never come, but of course my opinion doesnt matter i practice submission fighting and proved to myself and the rest of the students that this gogoplata thing would only work on people who r very dumb.but hey! i dun do BJJ too bad this opinion doesnt matter too because u r some kind of oracle and knew that i "Evidently" dun do BJJ cause is "EVIDENT!!!" anyone would knew that!! haha...seriously where do YOU people come from??
I have to disagree with you about this move only working on people who "r very dumb." Any move is low percentage if you don't set it up properly. For example if you start the flow with an omoplata most people will counter by sitting up. Then all you have to do is reach around the head for the gogo. If that doesn't work go into an armbar. If they pull the arm out transition to a triangle. You are correct that the move is low percentage when used by itself, but so is every other move.

Not "every other move" is low percentage otherwise there is no reason for that amount of triangle chokes or armbars, i can tell you do submission fighting or BJJ as well so i wont argue about this, for me everything is about defense in order to no not get caught and (agree with you)setups, wich is the most beautiful thing,to submit someone.Peace out.
yea it does i set it up differently but it's my favorite move i win most of my matches with this move, i just don't set it up from omoplata i go straight to the gogo instead of coming out to the side
It helps (when transitioning from the Omaplata to the Gogoplata) to keep at least one hand on the back of the opponents head to keep him from turning away and to keep him close to you so you can get you foot under his throat. I'm no expert, but that's how I have to do it, or else my opponent stretches away and makes it nearly impossible to get the choke (but sometimes I can go back to the Omaplata haha.)
After Nick Diaz recent win it seems Eddie Bravo is hoping to receive credit for this technique - as obviously only those who know 'rubber guard' can apply it.
why would you even say something stupid like this? rubber guard is a good set of steps to transition to the gogo plata because of the way you move through the holds but omo plata to gogo plata is one of the first ways it gets taught anywhere to my knowledge, including 10th planet
Ive been training at Nino's BJJ gym in Manhattan Beach, CA hes definitely a beast!!

Nice variation at the end - I'm gonna try that.

Best way to set it up imho is to get your rubberguard and start working for omoplata.
Then once you are in omo position, come back around with gogo.
Works for me.
Gogoplata is my favorite submission.
