  • Sure, cavemen lived the "ultimate" healthy lifestyle, but they also died at very young ages, most of them not making it past 32-34 years old. Yeah, I'm overweight, but besides the extra padding, doctors have told me I'm perfectly healthy. Blood pressure, heart rate, glucose and insulin levels... all in the healthy range. Oh, and I made it to 35! Who knows, I could be run over by a bus tomorrow, but at least I'll die knowing that my life wasn't just about quantity... but QUALITY!

    That's something of a myth. I have personally excavated remains of early modern humans who died at 60+, long before the neolithic revolutuion.

    My biggest problem is that a lot of them are not clean where it COUNTS! And you are expected to stand in line behind them? THE WORD "GROSS" comes to mind!

    And honestly have you watched some of them eat!

  • I have been helping people to get in shape and change their unhealthy ways for a very long time now as an educator and trainer. This is helping to change the world on a small scale. What the world really needs is a massive readjustment. We need to move more and work manually, cook our own food from fresh produce, sit and eat less, no processed foods, sugar drinks...if everyone did just that every day we would see a tromendeous decrease in obesity

  • Yeah, of course a lot of people are over weighted is because they make the wrong decisions everyday when eating. I believe that the food companies have the fault too for making the unhealthy food to make the people sick and get all the diseases basically to make the people die, and also for getting the people's attention by low prices in the product or the taste. It isn't just the people's fault that make the wrong decisions of their eating habits.

  • I've got to point out that you emotionally eat because of the biological effects stress has on your body. When you are stressed it depletes nutrition, which I believe is why many of us develope food cravings when we are depressed, angry or stressed. Our body is asking for nutrition. Unfortunately, many of us turn to the bad foods and just make our problems worse.

  • I think she is absolutely right!! Anyhow, I don't have an urge to eat like the cavemen, but in a way, we should go back to our roots to find out what our human body actually needs. Get rid of the junk food and start living in an entire new way. Excercise your body, move your fat ass!! I should say!

  • With due respect, fat, obese people are more in the North America and perhaps European countries only. Apart from this, whatever you said is 100% true. However, poor North Americans have no choice when it comes to choosing the food. Because of the governments and corporate food programs, they are conditioned to select the food which is only available in the super markets. Why not to revolt against the food, dairy giants. Decimate them and then only mankind will be able to eat good food

  • This is what happens when our politicians let corporations rule the country. They create cheaper, faster, tastier foods made from chemicals and HFCS. It's all about money people and until our politicians get their heads out of their butts (this is what happens when there's no real regulation on this crap)then America will continue getting larger.

  • It's not about not eating. It's about not eating certain foods high in cholesterol or glucose. The top two causes of death in the United States are heart failure and diabetes. Both are preventable.

  • I checked, glycogen is the stored form of glucose. When the body has enough glycogen in the liver, the rest is stored as fat.

    Ketones are partially burned fat molecules and part of the biochemical process involved in burning fat, which is a good thing.

  • what was the lifespan of a caveman? yes they probably didnt have obesity problems but im sure there were some diabetic cavemen but they werent able to go to the local doctor for to get their blood sugar tested. i would take this all with a grain of salt. of course we all need to eat better but dont dismiss all the good things that have come over time to make people live longer.

  • I used to be a little overweight for my age, when i was 11 i weighed like 8 stone.. bad I no, but at 12 I got braces right and i just lost weight like that I lost like a stone every year im 14 now and I still think I'm overweight, im now 10 stone and like most of my friends are about 8. I've stopped eating and my parents and friends are starting to get very worried, is that good or should i be eating and exercising regurlary, I do exercise though i go walking every night, but do i need food too?

  • MissDougie, you have to eat healthy foods in order to lose weight. If you stop eating, your body stops working. It thinks the 1 main food you eat, is all, so it will store fat from it.Eat plenty of greens, such as vegetables,lots of fruit. Fruit has it own sugars, so really you dont need any type of sweets. You also say you exercise by walking in the evenings.Try to stay active all day long, drink plenty of water when exercising. You will then see, inches being dropped. Good luck with that!

  • To understand how people gain weight, you have to know how insulin works.

    When you eat sugar, corn syrup or something with a high glycemic index, your blood sugar soars! Your body has to bring it down. It over-reacts and dumps a lot of insulin into your bloodstream.

    Insulin changes sugar into glycogen, a type of fat, and stuffs it into your fat cells.

    Soda pop is liquid candy and it will turn into fat.

    But fat barely causes a blip in insulin. You just can't get fat on a high fat diet.

  • yeah... Not quite. Glycogen isn't fat. It's stored energy that will break back down into glucose and give your body energy- if it isn't used up it will be absorped into your adipose cells and is converted into fat. High fat diets are really dangerous and will put ketone bodies in your blood which is no bueno.

I club a golf ball, and that is stressful, but I can't stop eating French fries.. and I eat them with CroMagnon Man Maynoaise too! Mnnnnn good...!

  • You have offended me greatly and you are fulling the fires of prejudice against people in my condition.. My diet is and was always nothing short of exceptional (as my dietician told me). It is not my fault or diets fault that I have a Thyroid problem and a mental health problem. Bipolar disorder is genetic. As is other serious mental health problems. The medication I take is designed for epileptic patients... anther group of people who will experience weight gain due to meds.

  • Why do you keep saying that our body was not "designed" for this or that? That word implies a creator not an evolutionary beginning. So who are you to say that we didn't evolve to eat freetos and coke and icecream? :)

  • We are living in very different world. You do not have to compare it to 1000 years ago -need to look back only 100. There is too much artificial foods, not enough movement, too much stress, and generaly humans are a quite lazy beings...but everyone wants to look awesome.

  • @wfitness001 Very true.In this modern era things are of course far more different than the era 1000 ago or more.We are lazier than ever with all this hi-tech stuff around, who are making life easier, but at the same time there are not doing a big favor to us.

  • adopting the eating habits of a caveman would make anyone very unhappy. In theory you're perfectly right, but very extreme. Finding a balance is not hard. there's nothing wrong with spending your sunday on the sofa and having ice-cream or chips once in a while...you can still be perfectly healthy and fit. And not obsessive.

  • That's a figure which gets thrown around a lot without anyone citing much less explaining the actual data. In reality, native societies do often seem to have relatively short lifespans due mostly to poor sanitation and the associated diseases - also war, famine, etc. However, the middle aged and old people in those societies are not suffering and dying from rampant degenerative disease like we are due to our poor diet.

  • Truth is largely subjective when it comes from biased sources on either side of an issue. I don't argue that many foods are bad for us, but our bodies were never intended to be fed this good nor has nature intended us to live as long as we are.

In any case Dr Weston Price,and others, found people of 70+ years of age in stone age tribes around the world; these old people were in excellent health, with none of our modern degenerative diseases. I and my family have tried the "Mercola" diet ourselves and can report nothing but good results re improved health. Is there anyone who reports otherwis
