Nice to see your car here. It was beautiful -- from an age of automotive art! I read once that all the new cars look like "bars of soap with tail lights". Mostly true.
Jack, as you know my son and I LOVE your train videos....but this vid is one of my new favorites because of what you did you take care of your wife. You are a great man, never second guess the decisions you made to keep the love of your life by your side...keep your chin up and keep the wonderful work up!!!
@DSVetDad Thanks Daniel! Don't regret it, and I would do it again! I sure do miss that car! The guy that restored it for me years ago lives in Raleigh NC. It turned up there a few weeks ago at a classic & antique auto auction. It sold for over double what I got for it. What a shame! Chin is up buddy! Now i'm fighting my own health issues after being as health and fit all my life. Take care. Jack...
My dad used to own a 69' javelin... and an amx for that matter but the javelin was far more impressive. He would put it in first and hit the gas and it would pull a wheelie like nothin. Fantastic cars and i am sorry you had to sell that nice of one.
I had a roomate from college who had a '69 Javelin. Usually getting a late start to class, he crossed our hilly town doing literally 60+ .. The car left the road with all four wheels in the air, and coming back down like nothing.... very, very impressive suspension and handling on these cars!
Sucks you had to sell it, I don't think I've ever seen one of these things in real life... keep in mind I wasn't even born until 1991 lol. The only AMCs I see are Hornets and Gremlins, and maybe a few Ramblers. But never any Javelins besides in magazines.
It's amazing to think just how natural older cars look out and about. They look, for want of a better word, normal, not standing out like sore thumbs like most modern cars. they are just beautiful.
@DocWolph ok so your saying that if a old muscle cars driving down a street its not going to turn any heads? Because from my experience they are just like the new muscle cars in that categorie.
@TheDodgeChallenger It is a sense of nostalgia. The older muscle cars just feel like they belong more than, as I said, most modern cars. Hence the word "normal". It might have been a bad choice but I never singled out the new muscle cars. If I did, then I would have posted that.
This rocks. Hope all is well with the family. Hope the 'Douche-Ka-Bob' who nuked the old car learned his lesson. See if you can get it back... cheap...
Would you like to sell or buy this car? Looking for some info about it? Or maybe just bought one? So share your happiness or experiance about it with all of us ;) Create fanclubs, upload pictures, videos, ask for some help about your car if it's something wrong with it.
great couple of cars right there! Sad you had to sell it, and then he went and blew the motor. Really bad news...but hey, at least you're getting yourself a new one if you haven't already picked it up! Congrats! My latest video posting is actually all about my Javelin, if you're interested. Thanks for sharing your cars with us. :)
Thanks Doc... I did pick up my new one. It is a fantastic ride. I'll post some vid of it in the spring when this western PA winter is over. Loved your video, and had to add it to my favs. Whats the name of your song at the end of your video? Its great. Take care, and thanks for watching. Jack
The name of the song at the end is called Hero Rising. It's a song I've yet to release, but should be doing so fairly shortly. (I'm a musician on YouTube about 95% of the time). Glad you like the song! :)
NO!!! Not badly built. I'm 60 years old, and have owned, raced, and built many motors for AMC cars. Never had one blow up. The new owner changed the oil pump. Don't know why? Put the Pre- relief in wrong, blew off the oil filter, then the nut tride to drive it home with no oil.
Sorry!!! There was nothing wrong with the motor, and probably they strongest on I ever built after the years of experience I have with them...
Oh. Don't be upset. I'm a bigger AMC fan than you, I bet. I'm very aware of the short comings of Amc engines, but with a little knowledge and a few bucks they can run with the best. Traco built some nasty engines during the heyday of Trans-Am series. But even a hardcore AM fan must admit these were mediocre rides. That's why I LOVE 'em!!
I'm not upset! Plus I doubt your a bigger AMC fan than I. I have owned this car since it was new in 1969, and have owned 11 or 12 otherd. Having it for 40 years, I know what it can do, and have raced many cars that just blew everyone away. I have never blown and engine trans, or rear in all the years of racing. It is far from a mediocre ride. It had gained respect from lots of people. The only shortcoming I know on the engine is oil to the rear bearings. They do make a kit to fix that...
Mediocre rides? As compared to what? Oh, and I have a Super Bee and a Corvette, among other things, so I know something about the different makes.
Let's stop kidding. Unless you are building race cars, most muscle cars were 13.5 to 15 in the quarter mile and 0-60mph in 5.5 to 8 seconds stock. I know very few muscle cars that "sucked". I love everything from a Shelby to a AMX 390. I have ridden in most of them, and I recall very few "mediocre".
Beautiful rides. Another AMC fan here. I have owned 3 Javelins and 1 AMX and currently own a '68 AMX which is in good shape but needs to be put back together some.
One day when I get mine cherried out, I'll put her on here.
Thanks for looking, and I look forward to seeing yours on here. I will have to get my AMX one here in the spring, as she is tucked away for the winter. I also have tons of AMC (AMO) Nationals I will get on, and some AMC drag racing. Take care. Jack
Thanks Shaguar66, you are so right, and my wife is doing very well. Thanks for asking. It turns out, last night 7/10/09, I purchased a very nice 68 AMX with a built 360 (not original). So my AMC with-drawl is almost over. Sould have it home next week. Take care, and thanks for looking. Jack
I feel the pain...almost as bad as the condition my dad allowed his to get to.... weak front axel, rust holes, transmission slips out of 2nd, and I don't know what happened to the interior, breaks my heart....Anyway, sorry and congrats on such a fine machine.
I agree with you on the fact that you should have sold your 'Vette. I am not a huge fan of this style Javelin, I prefer the '71 and up model, but I would definitely have sold the 'Vette over the Javelin. Just my two cents.
AMC . . . love it!! NOTE TO AMC / V8 ENTHUSIESTS. Check out "BOXWRENCH,COM" This is a web site for gearheads. They have a lot of chat rooms for all brands. Cool guys helpping brothers out with tech Q/A stuff. They DO need help with the AMC tourque and tech stuff though. ANY info would be appreciated greatly to get the AMC dept. up and going. Check it out ! A lot of info on tear downs and build ups. Great web site, but needs more AMC guys to be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sure am considering it! Im a little hesitant on it though, a 390 is a pretty big engine. The truck I have now has a 454 and I dont think Im up for another gas guzzler. If the Foxbody Mustang Im looking at gets sold, then this will be my next car. Ill send ya the craigslist link, let me know your opinion once you see a pic of it.
we have a '69 javelin too. its still being restored, but it should be pretty sweet after the paintjob. it sounds sweet though it is taken aprt at the moment for paint. i miss just hearin it run.
I'm sorry to read that the new owner is being hard on equipment... My dad sold a 70 Mark Donouhe Javelin (so we could have a Christmas) to a kid whose dad had owned one thinking he knew what he had, but he treated it like a 5.0 mustang intead. On a lighter note I know how it was treated because 12 years and 2 owners later dad and I bought it back! I didn't think I'd ever see it again. These things always have a way of working themselves out. Take care!
Love is a harsh mistress, but, the only thing that matters is a great companion. My guess is your wife has been less of a maintenance problem than the javelin even though the javelin is probably better looking! I'm kidding, really, I am kidding. Best of luck to your wife and I think you made the right choice in loyalties.
Thanks!!! I know I made the right choice, and maybe someday I can have the car I churished all my life back. But right now, my wife, and keeping our head above water is #1. Take care. Jack...
we will all miss your javelin

Let's see, AMX/Javelin,. Nice bodies? Check. Nice interiors? Check. Powerful engines? Check. Broke performance records? Check. Great sound? Check. Great acceleration? Check.
Maybe someone needs to define the term mediocre for me, still trying to figure it out.
