  • what is the power of the air compressor on it?

  • Cyberdines first Terminator attempt!

  • @0000kris0000 If you put a gun turret or more favorably a high power laser pulse weapon on this thing and throw a few lines of code that say "seek out and get rid of any humanoid form with an infrared heat signature or any electronic/mechanical entity that is is not recognized as on our side and do this until no such entity remain" you pretty much got your first basic Terminator prototype. This of course would start a new Technological Revolution, much as Nuclear and Space Travel did.

  • biorobots.cwru.edu/projects/onrprojects.htm

  • yea, maybe if you got a better camera with better rez then i could see what the hell this thing is.

  • u work very hard to make this robot...

    its moving by hydrolics.....

  • The only reason they made this was so robots could inherit the earth in case we blow ourselves up in a nuclear holocoust. It's always good to insurance for our 'children'.

  • why on earth people are creating cockroaches?

  • powered by air pressure, good, comes with built-in suspension systems, unlike servos

  • it will be good if we can send this pest to an alien's toilet

  • will it survive a nuclear fallout?

  • hmmm, I didn't see that running as a cockroach

  • So you can afford to build such a robot, but can't get something decent do film it... k

  • Im trying to end cockaroaches by killing them and now Your making them into robots!?

  • Why, of all God's beloved creatures, would you give the cockroach a MECHA?!

    In all seriousness: pretty cool.

  • Next step is to clean up the wires, give it an outonomous power source and make it walk. Maybe in two decades we have something we can actually use!

  • Wow :)

  • hmmm my imagination has better quality.

    cool project though!

  • Nice ! See also on youtube: NEWEST ROBOT THAT WALK ON WATER

  • cool man how many servos

  • lol good one zafy2

  • Who needs a artificial cockroach?? we already got real billions of cockroach living in our homes. we dont need more!!!

  • lol

  • The point is to give a robot in general better mobility.

  • maybe it'll be along the storylines of terminator....there will be a war of the organic cockroaches and roachnet....and then....the world WILL BE TAKEN OVER BY ROBOTIC COCKROACHES!!!!

  • @Nerdswar It would be used to remotely kill stupid people like yourself.

  • scary! i hate cockroach!1

  • love this comment!!!!!

  • Is this what the robot-humans are going to have in their house?

  • lol

  • It's called fuckzilla. It's like johnny 5 with an "appendage" for a hand. Google it

  • thats funny, but so many people thumbed you down.

  • haha!!1.20

  • can it walk as fast as a cocroach?

  • omfg...

  • if it was smaller with a small camra it would be a good spy robot

  • yeah because people never freak out and squish roaches. they totally ignore them

  • Impressive.

  • reminds me of the security robot in metriod fusion

  • ill need an army of them made out of adamantium by the end of the week

  • hahaaha you made me laugh xD

  • The part around 1:20 where they're shoving it reminds me of Big Dog.

  • Bugs are fucking cool they use bugs cause they move in ways we dont moron.Witch would make things better in life for Robots. I hate stupid people.

  • the last thing we need is robot bugs!

  • Honey! I shrunk the kids

  • way cool! I'd like to see another video in better quality.

  • STEP ON IT!!

  • nice legs control

  • RAAAAAAID!!!! ;))))))

  • Now if they could only create a cockroach brain. I think we still have a long way to go. A truly amazing piece of engineering. Pitty about the video quality.

  • Really greatly made how anyone can think of this is amazing and really great love Shirlsxx

  • i like how its steam powered (well, pneumatic) but its not a cockroach unless it runs fast like one

  • why would anyone want a cockroach robot??

  • Good question, I suppose it should have a great advantaje over other configurations in rough territory. So maybe exploration like mining, arqueology or rescue...

I also suppose that since it needs a relaitively simple control system, it might leave more room for complex thinking (feature recognition, movement detection, or maybe even reapairs

Besides, if looking a ta a cockroach makes people uncomfortable try thinking of squishing a giant roach bot, YUCK! hahaha

  • Those are gonna be the excuses and examples, that they will use to do there hidden agenda (Q.C.O.H.C.).But then again, your answers are all in the movies,The Matr....?,Oops,almost,pfew!!.Peace and prosperity to you and all your love ones.

  • Think about it; since a insect can lift many times it's body weight we could probably design and advance our robots on a larger scale such as a car for example. If we had to design the same strength to weight lift ratio only on a larger scale could be used for construction or speed depending on the creature. It also gives us something to work towards. It also can give us a better understanding of the insect and natural world.

  • Im not sure what you mean, but if were gonna build stuff with the same weight/power ratio were gonna need new materials and power sources

  • cioè... prima te lamenti dei video de quell'altri poi tu metti ste cavolate... e ke diavolo è sta fregna?

  • that's pointless, a robot the same size with wheels would be able to go over at least all the types of terrain that thing can go over if not more.

  • it's not pointless. You are limiting your thinking to that of currently more efficient functions. However, this work could eventually lead to machinery that can scale walls or terrain that are impractical for machinery. 50 years from now this could of been the basis from such machines. Wheels are great and all, so are treads, but they have their own limitations.

  • put skin on it and bring it into the public and scare people with it lol

  • haha the attack of the giant roach!

  • sie fie all over agin

  • i watched 2 seconds of it and i DON'T like it already!

  • Look at and insect. build a robot insect. look at robot insect. understand biological insect movement from observing robot insect movement in order to build another robot insect.

  • i whant to have robot bugs to eat everyone that be cool yours sincerely miss billy tropitomad from mexico p.s i love burgers

  • i wanted to see it walk i find . I asm dissapointed this video seems to be hiding it's excruciatingly slow walking gait

  • please just don't put skin on it to make it look real I would be freaking out

  • Can't see squat, Matt.

  • cool

  • Dam who want cockroaches ? =_=

  • totally agree...

  • the graphic is bad,but the cockroach was sick

  • I despise cockroaches! Argh!

  • I want to have mechanical ants. that would be sweet, they couldn't get burnt with a magnifying glass.

  • @Inferfire yeah they will be metal and will reflect the light to your eyes, ouch 0_o

  • hmm, interesting i can't wait to see when they start making centipede and bumblebee robots. Can you imagine a robot hummingbird?? that would be insane.

  • and they arent sending THIS to mars... why?

  • Reliability as that has a lot of moving parts though they might send something like athelete to the moon and mars which is similar to a tachicoma of all things.

  • making them to kill cockroach

  • why r they making them?????

  • so that one day cockroach robots will rule the earth

  • lol

  • that makes sense

  • haha ncie one ;)

  • ok, it could stand....but what about walking?:p

  • RE:Mar10nii

I think they're working on that as we speak. Robotic programming is rather complicated. I think what they're getting at is that their method for maintaining a standing posture is going to affect how it moves too, probably has something to do with stability and balance.

  • hahaa...my stepfather is working with uav-technologies ALONE(both the mecanical part and the softwarepart, its going to be almost like an AI-helicopter and making and uav helicopter is so much more difficult than making a smartbomb, uav-aeroplane or at least an roboisect). He is developing a new kind of warfare-software for the norwegian and the american army...he also has Dell FujiSiemens,Trysil Maskin and Rotomotion working for him :D

  • im gonna step on it >.>

  • Metal gear solid is comming save your selfs XD jk

anyway its pretty cool I hope theyll be able to make some realy cool robots soon

  • wooooooooooow

  • Wow. This is one of the best videos I've seen on youtube! Concise, clear, interesting, and informative. Way to go!

  • is it gonna become domesticated cockroach some day in the future? it might just chop your head off while in search of old pieces of pizza...

  • too bad, it did not move, i expected it to move like what they showed

  • mola

  • Wow. I really appreciate the developmentals of robotics. Great R&D results. Thanks for posting!

  • Go on all fours and let someone push you. U might tip over. This one does not. See if u could put something heavy on ur back and pick ur self up on ur fingers. its gonna hurt. This one didn't break.

  • well their is not point yet but as they get better they will be usefull.

and vajyna thoose were bad examples

  • it can't move forward like they showed, I was disappointed waiting for it to move forward.

  • Very interesting. However, the video quality really sucked. For an almost 4-min. vid, you could've set a higher resolution. A lot of detail was lost here.

  • It's Youtube. They compress the videos like hell...

  • looks real smooth. thx for building it.

  • Amazing work guys. I love how you built it. Hopefully the next generation of this will be fully self contained and be wireless. :)

  • Damn good choice of animal to model it on if I do say so myself, this is incredible and a beautiful peice of work. I do wish to see this kind of creation more often!

  • They same reason why scum like you went to school. People dream of progress and development. In you case that was a waste of time and effort.

  • loved the wolf howling at 03:39.....

  • That's amazing! I love robotics... Can't wait for AI.

  • Me too, you're right ... but do mankind realy want an AI? I'm not sure ;)

  • I do!

  • If ur either blind, physically disabled or an amputee, what do u think?

  • o.k...

why the hell do we need a robot cockroach?

The real ones are annoying enough...

  • lol

  • just a name...-.-

  • HAHAHA....can you imagine turning on the lights and seeing a shit load of these run for the nearest dark spot..LOL, and the trying to kill them with Raid...LMAO

  • god is still way more clever than human. that stupid machine weights like 100Kg/300Lbs and god can do same whit fine litle legs and weight only like 5 grams!

  • that comment reminds me of what the greatest human chess player Kasparov said about computers that play chess. He played and badly beat a computer in a game of chess in 1992 and confidently declared computers would never be able to beat a human in chess. in 1997, after only 5 years of improvements in hardware and software, the computer Deep Blue beat him in a chess tournament. don't be too quick to judge a piece of technology that's still in its infancy.

  • SO. computers cant stand fire. So well just burn them

  • humans cant stand fire either. actualy most integrated circuits can stand 60 degrees calvin while humans cant even stand 45 degrees calvin.

  • Comment removed

  • That's Kelvin, Schwer.

  • i meant celsius though :|

  • Oh, ok. Thanks, schwer, for responding to my message I posted 1 year ago. :)

  • i agree u can make a cocroach but not a god hq video?? ok...

  • 2:53 seconds, Please man don't make it angry. (^_^)

  • Wouldn't it be easier to find an insect, then paint is silver? There, I just saved everyone time and money.

  • lol scam

  • Science: 0

    Lazy Practicality: 1

  • LMAO good idea!!!!!

  • so you can construct a cockroach-like robot but not upload a video in good quality?

  • ...they used up all of their government-sponsored research funding, lol

  • loled pindoled smalcoled

  • sigh all these robots being made... We gonna end up like i-robot... cmon make gundams already XD O.o"

  • Will is feed us? Will it shelter us? Will it cure us of disease? Will it give us clean drinking water? While you are playing with mechanical cockroaches just remember a child is dieing on this planet every minute from lack of medicines, clean drinking water, and starvation.

  • Such technology has wide applications. It may not do many of the things above but that does not mean that it is not useful. Don't forget that the computer that you are using to post this comment came from projects on which bilions of dollars were spent!!!

  • While you are complaining on YouTube just remember a child is dieing on this planet every minute from lack of medicines, clean drinking water, and starvation.

  • How would you transport medicine to a sick child in remote Africa without a plane (mechanical bird) or boat? Science takes detours, reproduces nature, in order to understand how it works. This robot roach might help engineers create a machine that clears debris from a muddy river where a boat or wheels can't go. Or the applications could help crippled kids walk again via superior bionic limbs. Some good can come of it. The expansion of our knowledge base is essential to our survival.

  • and the same could be argued that while you are browsing youtube, a child is dieing on this planet every minute from lack of medicines, clean drinking water, and starvation. practice what you preach, why don't you?

  • very good,.

  • what if a robot had just as much soul as a human? Why not we all the same matter...

  • i agree with you:

but most will forever deny the truth.

  • 100 years and we will have robots pwning us

  • 100? Try 10.

  • 10, right...

    idiot

  • 10? Try 1.

  • you'r all retards xD

  • 0, for machines already control every little piece of society =)

  • It looks like is capable of dodging stuff. If you put sensors on it and make it go fast. It can be use in war to delivery food and ammunition to soldiers in hostile environments.

  • damn 30 pounds shit lol

  • Make a car-sized one, but use titanium for the metal, or the lightest, most durable material you can use, and have an on-board "cockpit" to sit a human driver.

    THAT would be fucking awesome.

  • Scientists are finally humble enought to admit that NATURE is their best teacher... By the way, I think cockroaches, disgusting as they are, are perhaps THE most perfect critter around (No wonder the navy chose them, instead of, say, a MOTH..) anyways, they reached the peak of their evolution and have remained unchanged for hundreds of millions of years... if they ever drop "the bomb", they´ll still be around... Now if ya´ll excuse me, I´ll go out and DDT some of them...

  • How are cockroaches "disgusting"?

    Please enlighten me.

  • cockroach will remain cockroach just kill them ;p

  • Too bad it does not walk...

  • i dont give a fuck how much this shit cost. I see this in my house or anywhere im killing it

  • It's sad that people are already capable of forgetting that robots are obviously not 'killable'... It's not even a living thing, but artificially takes on the form of organic things.

  • Oh, c'mon dusteroo. You've just been promoted to Captain in the ranks of the obvious.

  • Niice

  • whats it for?

  • odd just odd

  • oh yes i've built those when i was 5 wat a genius i am =P

  • so cute!!

  • Programming anger would be easy.

  • Lol, I hope no Scientists are ever stupid enough to program anger into a Robot, 'Cause that thing looks fun to kick around.

  • What the fuck, it can't walk!
