Anyone out there read racer Mark Donohue's "The Unfair Advantage"? Open up Chapter 6 ("Cobra") and you will find the story behind this song presented in the first paragraph. He's obviously a Donohue fan. (One of America's greatest racers.)
You all do know, that not only is he the ultimate guitarist and songwriter. He is the coolest guy alive. As McQueen, Elvis, James Dean, and Paul Newman are no longer with us.
Hello Of a Song. Keep playing on my mind. Quite easy to play the chords too...try it. Awesome song, Mark really rules forever and ever. Pure atmosphere.
@dergrossen@spunkstained it's too bad I wasn't born back then, it sounds really good to have experienced. I am glad I've got the chance to see him live performing a few months ago, I hope he gets to make music for a long time still.
Thats the thing about MK..all bout his brain. Hell of a guitar player but in my view it is all about what's inside his head. The lyrics and the melody are unique. There are plenty of folks who are as good I am sure. Just happens I was hooked on MK back in 1978.
@spunkstained My dad was in the UK Eighth Army and he told me that when the Scots played the bagpipes the Germans and Italians knew they were in for a big fight. My dad said the italians used to surrender immediately. The Germans called for more support because they knew the fight would be to the end. Man to man. Hell of a strong people The Scots.
@spunkstained I can see what you mean by the Celtic music, yes. I think he had a lot of influences. I know his parents wanted him to learn the violin and I think they had a piano in the house. He has not lost his Geordie accent. I have always respected the Scots and my dad always said that in WW2 the Scots and the Kurkhas were the best fighters. There is a directness about the Geordie culture that sets itself apart from other regions in the UK. The Scots too.
The song was about Mark Donohue...racing car driver killed in action.."It is about a young racer trying to get a break, on the outside looking in, his dreams out of reach. It was inspired by a short piece in Donohues autobiography "Unfair Advantage."
Moves on the guitar that no one can follow, like magic Johnson's moves in basketball. If NASCAR doesn't make this their theme song, they should. I'm mailing it to all my NASCAR buds. Thanks Mark
I love MK and own every recording he's ever done. He is one of only a few guitar players I can identify in 3-4 notes. His music always puts me in a better place. The fact that he did a song about my car, a Cobra AC427 is that much icing on the cake. Thank you, Mark.
no need weed, mark is one of the few peformers who can really makes me chill without any drugs, but the Dub LP's by Prince Far I can do things no other can do, really makes me fly damn
This is the true music every time I turn the album Get Lucky and I'm in my car, I just want only 1 thing which is now on understanding and highway cruising
@1985f350 Yeah look up British Grove Studios he uses a mix of old and new technology. Guitars are often 1950 builds. A lot of work goes into making this sound and really it is the technology that makes it happen. MK is a top class player but believe me there are lots of guys who could play this. Now in terms of song writing MK is is stellar.
I'd like to know what on Earth made those (at the time of writing) 2 persons dislike this wonderful song.

@spunkstained Well your mind is free. I don't think we evolved from other primates. I think we were engineered by our friends from the stars.

No cursing in the comment box, please. Mark's songs are too good to be misused to insult.

re: Get Lucky Youtube clips..
I have yet to find one evil negative nincompoop comment on Youtube..
(don't some people just do it because their day on the planet just isn't complete until they take a dump on something beautiful?)..
Anyway who knows..
maybe the world has finally found something that's impossible to criticize..
Could we be so fortunate..?..
