I own the same computer. Installed Windows 7 via Bootcamp just for the sake of playing games. Gaming is the only reason I would ever use Windows. For everything else I'm on the Mac side. These 27" iMacs are incredible machines considering the display alone would cost you $1100. The most beautiful LED display on the market.
@jshaw6000 you should have chosen 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200 as it's the same aspect ratio as the screens native resolution, so the image wouldn't be stretched out :)
@jshaw6000 I have windows 7 64 bit running via by bootcamp on my new 2011 imac 27inch and it sees the monitor as a generic pnp monitor.. and image looks generic, any chance of advice because im really lost thanks
@Josh1901 No everything possible has been done and it just looks generic, it still shows generic pnp monitor, all drivers have been installed using apple cd driver disk.
@louinou It ain't fail it's just you don't buy a mac for gaming :P I have a Mac Pro, didn't buy it for gaming but still can do the job if you want to. I bought it for video editing and just because I love it :) I also have a iMac also does the job pretty well :)
No, not a fail. 80% of the time I'm using Mac. The other 15% I'm using Windows on my Dell Laptop. 5% of the time I'll actually use Windows bootcamp and game.
@louinou in a way i can see your point, but more games companys will eventually release there big games for macs as well as pc. bootcamp is just a solution to this in the mean time ...
@louinou Fail? Hows that? If gaming is not your #1 reason for buying a computer and you prefer Macs then its the logical thing to do. I own both PC and Mac and find the Mac to be much better for my needs. The ONLY thing that I use Windows for is to play the occasional game. Thats it. So tell me how having a computer runs both OS's flawlessly is a "fail" as you put it. You people should think before you post.
@louinou Also Lou. Also keep in mind that that LED display on that iMac has a higher resolution that almost anything on the market and would cost you at least $1000 by itself. Yeah, huge "fail".
had this exact imac for couple of months :) great mac however it does get quite hot after a while which sucks i dont even need to touch it to feel the heat just hover your hand over that sucker and you'll feel it my god :|
Just so you know, the WEI # is locked at 5.9 if you have a spinning disk drive attached to your computer, even if it's some sort of WD Raptor or something fast like that.
@jshaw6000 Well, not necessarily that. Unless you have an SSD in your system as the boot drive, your score will always be 5.9, whether you have a 5400RPM drive, or a 10,000RPM Velociraptor.
Trust me, you don't need to play at full resolution with most games. 1900 x 1200 is good enough and it is still HD and it runs perfectly smooth. Look at the fps counter in the top right corner of the screen. It's pretty good considering the game runs at 30 fps.
@chueey14 why get an mac for gaming? i LOVE macs but macs are for other not gaming, hence the 2500$ price but the crappy video cards. lol. i suggest just building your own rig for around 2000$ which will get you playing EVERY GAME running smooth with a COOL looking rig D:
I wouldn't consider the 5750 a crappy video card. And the iMac is an All-in-one computer. You can't compare it to a gaming rig.
A Mac pro is not meant for games but it can game if you get a good video card for it. And both NVIDIA and ATI make plenty of Mac compatible high-scoring GFX cards.
@jshaw6000 well i JUST had a 5750 for my 26" monitor and it wasnt playing 1920x1200 at high FPS especially black ops. thats what i said build his own rig FOR gaming. and the only way to upgrade a video card on ur imac is to buy a new one xD the only upgradable mac is a mac pro which starts at 2500$ with a 5770? lol. a 2500$ custom built pc will get him 2 6850's in crossfire. mac is so overpriced its crazy. but hey i dont hate. i think its awesome(well the OS).
What part of "A Mac Pro is not meant for gaming" did you not understand? It's a media development machine, a workhorse. Of course it's going to be more expensive than your average consumer gaming PC. People don't buy Mac Pro's with the primary intention to game like they do PC's. They usually buy them for business which is why Apple charges their premium for them. And businesses don't care whether something is overpriced or not. They care whether or not it will make them money.
@DrOrtmeyer u mean the glossy apple logo and the overpriced technology from the OS that they want SUPER profit from? lol. and about the processor, they dont use 1000$ processors. they use 300$ xeons which is on the MAC PRO? idk which is on here but it wont be better than the mac pros. and about the ram? they dont use no dominator GT's to call it expensive. trust me ur paying for the logo. lol.
@frankth3frizz im not talking about imacs though, imacs are mobility based for heat issues, they do have heatsinks.. OW YEAH mac pros have a billion heatsinks.... and ECC ram which corrects its own mistakes.. and again has heatsinks.... and last but not least.. macs are meant for company usage and are mostly server based.... AGAIN with the xeons they are in fact meant to run day and night.....
Settings were on high and I had the resolution at 1920x1200 which is just one step down from the highest resolution. I used Fraps to give me the fps reading. I used the camera to recored so I would not get any degraded performance by recording with Fraps..
This Imac is so beautiful I'm getting this one next week ( i7 ) cannot wait after saving hard for 6 months! BFBC2 looks awesome definitely one of the games i'm gonna get for it! any other games you would recommend?
what mice you use for fps gaming?

why didn't you use the 2560x1440 res
RandallvonGilbert 1 year ago
@RandallvonGilbert
Because it lags a little. But you can't really see much of a quality difference at the next lowest resolution. The response is a lot better though.
