  • I am not trying to make excuses for Shin.

But watching the video, it is obvious that his left earpiece came off.

Maybe he cannot hear the music and that affect his performance?

  • hmmmm... i feel way too aisan watching this video....

  • She is great.

Too bad he hurt the performance with his inept, untrained "belting."

She should have sung it solo.

  • @thechinadesk Hell YEah!

  • Hayley Westenra voice is angelic!

  • she sang more than well! bravo!

  • 哇..............真感動唱的那麼好

  • 唱得比我還好

  • They guy sounds pretty good when he opens up for the last verse though!

  • The girl has absolutely wonderful voice but the accent could be improved. "qu" "yue" these ones do not sound right at all.

  • omg, sorry to say that, but i just wanna bite her lips ~~~~

  • Very Nice Voice!!!!

  • fuck the ocassion, she looks like an angel, so does her voice

  • Both are fantastic!

  • The crowd loves it. That's the main thing.

  • She has such a beautiful voice...

  • I thought Shin did a FANTASTIC job.

  • is 'the moon represents my heart' actually a correct translation of the original chinese title? I think the english title sounds a bit .. uhm ..too long. It should be renamed into something shorther, like 'The moon reveals my heart' or 'The moon reflects my heart' for example.

  • @tannewton blah blah blah

  • @tannewton

It is perhaps a too literal translation.

Not "wrong" per se, but as you note, not the most poetic.

  • wow..... She sing beautifully. :">

  • Shin sucked here. Hayley was awesome.

  • mikey is blown away by this beautiful ballad and the two artist esp Hayley singing Chinese perfectly <3

  • the song is from Teresa Teng . <3 she is wonderful.

  • r ock and opera! luv it!!!! Great jobs from these two artist!!! :)

  • Hayley is really amazing. Wow!!

  • spectacular just absolutely spectacular , i'm not a chinese and i have no idea what they are singing about but i just totally love this song and im 19 lol :D and all credits to Hayley Westenra for even singing it in chinese <3

  • @retrofusion ever heard of jane zhang?

  • kiwis all good

  • Please record a version on itunes to download !

  • pls listen to this 10yr old boy..Singing the beautiful song from Teresa Teng...The moon represents my heart by Miguel..

  • love it

  • great :x

  • damn... :| it brought me goosebumps

i could see the difference in terms of talents...

    good tryin though shin :|

    the quality really differs...

  • Very brave of Hayley to attempt to sing a song in her own special way in a language other than her own which she has done very well, excellent phonetics

  • @rachen09 Oh believe me when I say so. My chinese friends and coworkers who sing are usually singing in a low volume coz they sing with their throats. And notice most of the cantopop, their styles are the same. All mellow and soft and vocally it sounds like they're just making tunes talking. There's not enough dynamics in their singing. Anyone could sing nice and sweet if they use their throat. It's pretty much just business and not talent.

  • @retrofusion456

LOL WOW you're such an ignorant imbecile hahaha.

i mean. how stupider can you get lolol. I'm not even chinese, and I don't listen to chinese music either. But you cannot generalize that 1.3 billion people on this planet cannot sing based on their race hahaha. Musical talent does not only come to certain races. it may be true that popular chinese mainstream music may be all similar and not very dynamic. but that's not because the country isnt talented...

    wow some people lol.

  • @icicle0109 i guess he hasn't heard of the famous stars like jacky cheung and andy lau.. who are still living off the Millions and millions they made by "not being able to sing" What a generalizing fool.

  • @retrofusion456 "most of my Chinese friends blah, blah, blah..." Are you by any chance a music professor? Granted that not all people know how to sing PROPERLY, still you should not generalize that one race doesn't have any talent for singing. It takes training to learn how to sing properly with dynamics, good diction, breathing, and all that. This is coming from somebody who is learning opera by the way.

  • Chinese people can't sing. No offense. I don't get how these singers in Hong Kong get to be popular. It's all fabricated business. The only two chinese singers I heard that could sing is Janice Vidal and Olivia Ong and they're mixed with Filipino and Singaporean. Makes sense.

  • @retrofusion456 Excuse me? Who are you to say that Chinese people can't sing? There are PLENTY of Chinese singers that have fantastic voices. I mean, of course there are Hong Kong pop stars that are fabricated, but there are even more HK, Taiwan and Chinese singers that have just as amazing voices. Just because you're not exposed to Chinese music, does not give you the right to stereotype that "Chinese people can't sing".

  • @retrofusion456 Just these singers, not all of them. Have you heard Teresa Teng?

  • Both are amazing! Kudos to Hayley for singing in Mandarin, she did a fantastic job! I loved how powerful Shin's voice was at 2:23! Even if you guys say that was not his best..

  • @heero884 I agree. I also love the contrast after Shin's part @ 2:23 when Hayley start in again. Such a fun version.

  • I love Hayley Westenra! I hope she does more music in Mandarin, like what she did with Japanese.

  • i think her chinese is quiet good, i understood every single words

  • there is a bit accent but the lyric is well pronounced

absolutely well done for a foreigner who never sing in Mandarin before:)

  • @Laurence0227 That's what I thought at first, but when I checked Teresa Teng's recording, it seems that Haley is performing it with Teresa's pronunciation. What a brilliant performance by Hayley.

  • the man sucks, but the girls good

  • @MagnusMas ..alright, but sucks is overstated however agree the girl is really good

  • shin only sounds bad cause hes singing with hayley but i think hes better than a lot of other rocker stars out there

  • Hayley was fantastic! She made an ordinary song out of this world.

  • 那個男的是誰?膽子好大.

  • try to listen the rendition of siti nurhaliza to this song

  • Hayley did a good job!!

  • ok in truth... i love her voice but her pronounciations are off and im just learning chinese!!

  • @DiBs4Dawgz Her pronunciation is actually pretty good. Bear in mind that spoken Chinese varies a lot. Compare Chinese spoken in Taiwan with that spoken in Beijing it's really quite different. In this particular song 的 in pronounced 'di' instead of 'de' (pinyin) as it sounds softer/nicer when sung that way.

  • @sleggat hmmm im taking chinese rite now n i do find the pronounciations very confusing. n it can sound softer/nicer if 'de' is sang too. it just depends on the person if they kno how to sing

  • omg isn't she Celtic women!!???

  • @FIyingDumpling

Yes she is and I wish she was still participating with them.

  • good

  • people that dont know the song wont know what she's singing..lol

  • Her voice is good, but not sweet like Teresa

  • ...( = _ = ) Even though Shin's pronunciation is better, he really ought to stick to rock. Haley's voice really projects well and in a beautiful tone, his singing is well...a bit harsh on the ears. It's more like belting out words as opposed to actual singing.

  • wow, she sounds beautiful...and almost like the singers in those Disney movies...

  • not bad Hayley Westenra, the pronounce of the Chinese language is good.

  • beautiful preformance :)

  • oh shinnn *frowns in disappointment* hayley *claps*

  • She's good. he's terrible, harhar

  • @CupahNoodles This was the first (and perhaps only) performance she's ever sung in Chinese and it was live, not easy and most people can see that. The crowd seemed to like it, also most of the Chinese Youtubers below. I think the adverse comments about Shin have come from people on both sides of the World and it's probably because he couldn't quite hit his top notes and Hayley could. Most people still think it's a really good performance though, but you are entitled to your opinion, of course.

  • I don't know who Shin is either but I think Hayley did a good job, she has a sweet voice and was able to hit the notes effortlessly. I'd love to see her sing more songs in different languages. Performing live is not easy as opposed to pop stars on pop flicks with all the tweaking being done to the clips

  • @hwivid

Yeah! you are right! Even most Chinese singers can't sing this song, only Teresa Teng(RIP) can do that!

  • @CupahNoodles an actual angel:)

  • WAH! <3 She's amazing. I wished I could sing like her. But, I think the guy was good too! Reminded me of Clay Aiken lols. Even if he had to squeeze his hand, his better than me lols. WAH!

  • a great song with great voices. wo shi zhen de zhen de hen ai ni! (jerry yan!) :D

  • Commendable effort, Hayley! ***claps x many times***

  • i think she's an egg - white on the outside, yellow on the inside.

  • wow....white lady even speaks better chinese than the chinese guy, what a disgrace to my country

  • please watch this link...

this version is beautiful sung by Siti Nurhaliza who is not a chinese...

believe me..u will be mesmerized by her voice

    watch?v=gI7mD9DiydQ

  • OMG! She's white! HOW COOL!

  • The male vocalist was not on his game. But Hayley Westenra... wow, PROPS girl. Beautiful.

  • she's so awesomee i can't believe she sang it in chinese!! haha and i think it's so cute how she only has to sing the same one verse 3 times.

  • wow wow !!! I got goos bum listen to Hayley westenra sing in that high pitch!!! This is unbelievable !

  • I'm part Taiwanese.

  • both of them r great..im so pity about SHIN, he needs to held tight his hand for his voice to come out..haha congrats.. they r bith greatt,,

  • @munyinun He's putting his emotion into the song by doing that, not because he's straining to get his voice out. Singers commonly do that to show emotion.

  • Wow! Hayley sings in Mandarin Chinese better than I do - and I am Chinese...

  • I think this guy Shin did very well. I found this video quite entertaining. It takes a lot of courage to step on stage alongside Hayley Westenra as there is a good chance of being labled mediocre and ugly, unless it's a Placido Domingo, Andrea Boceli, Russell Watson, etc (those would be labled ugly only). The guy did well. Well done Shin !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously, the crowd love them !

  • Not bad! Hayley's few verses in her Japanese album were clearer, but her Chinese here is still rather remarkable!

  • Technically, Japanese is more similar to English than Chinese, so it makes sense that it should be easier for her to sing in Japanese than Chinese.

This song is still very much amazing, though. 5/5.

  • I think they're both pretty good. The guy Shin obviously isn't a pure vocalist like the girl Hayley, but he holds his own. All in all a great performance I hope we can all agree.

  • We do :)

  • Sorry hwivid and to all Shin fans. I wasn't intentionally targeting him. I am just finding that most of modern singers just can't sing and always end jazzing up the stage with laser or show a lot of skin to mask their inability to sing. Brittney Spears is another one of those singers using computerized voices and showing skin etc.

  • srr, if you take notice, u will realize that this tone is not for man, but for woman. So that Sin cannot show his voice much. Hayley really has a angelic voice :D

  • Srr, If you take notice, you will realize that this tone is not for man, but for woman. So i think Sin cannot show his voice much. see how hard he tried to sing the high note. He really tried his best but maybe this song is not suitable for him. Hayley really has an angelic voice. I love her so much. :X

  • He's a famous *rock* singer in Taiwan, who was asked to do a ballad... let's give him a break! ;)

  • @pjasonl Shin is good but its obvious that Hayley is in a different class.

  • @pjasonl If he was only shouting and screaming I'd like to hear you shout and scream the way he did =)...or better yet, try to hit his notes the way he did without your voice cracking all over the place =)

  • @pjasonl it provides contrast.

  • @pjasonl ur idea isnt right anyways, look at adam lambert, he dresses up like crazy but he is undoubtedly one of the best singer i've ever seen in my life

  • Hayley is so pretty and her angelic voice is mesmerizing.

But the guy sucks big time.

  • he is a ROCKER, not a vocalist or sth. That's the way he sang.

  • My gosh. I love you hayley so much. You are really worldwide entertainer.

  • The best voice after Teresa Teng. No other version has made me have chills along my spine.

  • I love Hayley very much......Heyy I am Indonesian here and study in Taiwan. I know this event

  • Hayley is the Best!!! hope that she will also come to the Philippines..

  • Hayley however, the best.

Pinche chino que voz tan bonita tiene

  • She's only singing the chorus but that's okay. Learn more chinese songs, sing more of them, and you'd be the best.

  • But I can only understand chinese,

    not speak.

  • I'm Taiwanese and she's from New Zeland. I don't even know how to speak chinese! She has a perfect voice!

  • How would Chin ever have the chance? Hailey is one of the three new stars in the world, including China world, do things on a god level.. Chin do well :)

  • her name is spelled Hayley....just to let you know. And isn't she singing Japanese?

  • She is singing in Mandarin (a Chinese dialect) ... if you notice from the video she is singing at the World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

  • A blank 6

  • Hayley should take on singing more Chinese songs. x3 She's doing pretty well with this one.

  • dang SHE GOOD..

  • wow, the guy really isn't all that great... there's no passion in his voice at all.

  • I see it differently, if you listen to the song w/o the video his voice is fine. It's his facial expression, there's no passion there. He almost looks like he didn't want to be there. But maybe that's his style.

  • What wonderful voice!

Hayley is a angel of music.

  • what a perfect voice!

  • what are the world games? how is it diff from the olympics?

  • World games are the Olympics that features events that are not held at the Olympics such as rugby and frisbee.

  • cool

  • They are both really fantastic. Shin is so cute! I don't think its a problem of him being a bad singer, maybe moreso that he had trouble singing so softly to match Hayley--she is a really high soprano--and if he's a Chinese rockstar, that's a completely different forte.

Well done the both of them!

  • I like the part where he "rocks out". His voice isn't very strong at the beginning, but I love everything about the whole performance.

But the best part is when Hayley first starts singing, and the crowd goes wild, and the way Hayley smiles so sweetly in response. I just love it!

  • T_T Beautiful singing ;_;..

Gotta love Hayley Westenra.. the most natural voiced angel~

  • she got paid...:):) I mean she should get paid... great performance

  • It's surprising that Hayley can sing perfectly in other language. Hayley has an amazing voice, and she seems to express the song well. I can feel the song eventhough I'm NOt chinese. WAY TO DO HAYLEY

  • Hayley does an amazing job at the song! I can understand every word she's saying! Her pronounciations are almost perfect! You go girl!

  • Is Hayley wearing Issey Miyaki? She looks amazing in that dress and her hair and make up is very pretty, I bet all the little asian girls wanted her hair style after seeing her performance. I saw this clip on tv1's Close Up, thanks for the tip :)

  • Hey come on the guys not that bad, he is highly thought of over there from what i have been told by my Chinese work mates.

More of a Rock star .

  • Yes, agree with you.

I believe they want to show the conflict between the classic style (Hayley) and rock style (Shin) in this song.

It seems Shin was bit shy but actually not so bad.

  • the guy sucks, but hayley's voice is amazing!!!

  • She is impressive.

  • okay this guy is horrible

  • i thought so too, but until i heard him singing live i changed my thoughts about him

too bad the tv broadcast can't capture the power of his voice

  • Hayley is so talented in singing in different languages...s

  • Absolutely magic. I've had the privilege of meeting her in person, she is absolutely personable and down-to-earth.

  • she is as perfect as ever =D

  • WOW is all I have to say

  • Love this Vid

Well done Hayley another great performance
