Elaine's documentary blew me away. I'm a young 'un just starting to learn about Canada's soul and R&B scenes of the 50's and 60's. To think that such talent could be forgotten or consigned to the archives...! And to realize that in such an unenlightened time a Queer artist could be taken on his merits: anyone thinking him a novelty would be corrected at once by all that power and raw authenticity! Kudos, Gerry, for putting these up!
For all those who never caught Jackie Shane live, just calm the lights, lock the door, shut off the phone and tell everyone to please be quiet and learn a "soul lesson" from one of the masters at communicating. When Jackie sang he didn't have to be overbearing, not at all. He just poured out his heart and we were all transfixed to the magic that was Jackie Shane.
