I highly recommend this! I have been making & using this now for at least 6-8 months. Yes - it is SO cheap & easy to make! One batch lasts us for quite awhile. Our clothes are nice & clean - no problem there. My daughter uses it for my grandson's clothes - gentle for baby washings too! My mom - who is one who ALWAYS buys expensive name brand soaps finally decided to try it & LOVES it as well!
I've only found two kinds of bar washing soap: Fels-Naptha and Zote. I've made this recipe with both of them and got severe reactions (sneezing, irrigated eyes and nasal passages and throat f. Naptha has citronella and many folks are allergic to it on their skin or get a reaction from just the scent. sneeze when we use it and our eyes, nasal passage and throat are irritated.
If anyone knows what bar soaps to use, let me know. I think if it has moisturizers it not recommended.
I make 5 gallons at a time, but the recipe is different: 1 bar Naptha, 3 cups Borax, 3 cups Washing soda, and 1/4 Cup oxyclean, cooked in 3 gallons of water. Pour into 5 gallon bucket, and add enough water to fill to 5 gallon mark. It will thicken a bit as it cools.
2 cups Baking soda Melt grated soap in a saucepan with enough hot water to cover. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring frequently until soap is melted. In a large pail, pour 2 gallons hot water. Add melted soap, stir well. Then add the baking soda, stir well again.Use 1/2 cup for full load, 1 cup for very soiled loads
If you cant find Felsnaptha, you can use Zote. I have instructions that you can even use Ivory. Either works great! I have shared this receipe with many friends and they love it.
Soap nuts are amazing and last for ages. I bought some months ago and I have only used one little bag so far......obtainable on internet sites. and Natural too.
Yes, you can, but I'm not sure what store you'd buy from. I did a quick Google search and found that there is a supplier in Rotterdam, so it's probably not too hard to find...
At 1:46, did you mean to say "a gallon", instead of a quart? It looked like a BIG quart.
Thanks for posting.

It looked like when she poured the soap concentrate into the bucket, that the top had solidified into a bar of soap consistency?

A better recipe is the one I use which is:

This is awsome! things are so expensive, and this is good, all you would need to do to scent it is put some essential oils into it.
