@Davynn28 There are many, many songs recorded by country artists which crossed over onto the pop charts, this being one among them. Some country artists, Brenda Lee being one, crossed over with almost every hit she had. This seemed to occur a lot between 1956 and 1965.
@Nocaro 1956 to '65 is before my time but I take your point. I found this song by accident and was very pleased by the actual superior [quality] of Mr. Robbins singing voice! Not what I'm personally used to associating with country music - no offense intended to anyone.
@Davynn28 LOL, no offense taken for sure! One of the purposes of my channel is to air a lot of music which unfortunately an entire generation of people (usually under the age of 40), have never heard before simply because much of it is not programmed any longer on the radio and other media. And you certainly can't like anything you have never heard before, therein lies the rationale for my YouTube Channel.
@Nocaro This song goes straight through my heart and I listen with my heart. My name is...Mary. No one can sing like Marty Robbins. We are all blessed to have had him and he is sorely missed.
I had the privelege of seeing Marty Robbins live at the Grand Old Opry in 1964 (age 15) when it was still in the Ryman Auditoriium. My sister drug me kicking and screaming to what I thought was going to be really boring country music. Marty just happened to be the guest star for the night. I've been a huge fan of his ever since. He had other tunes like Devil Woman and A White Sports Coat & a Pink Carnation that didn't have western themes that were just as good.
why why why didnt i know about him earlier, curse this damn world of corrupt new age music, i feel cursed to be a young man in this day and age and have this tresure hidden from me, all the filth that is promoted in the language of modern music is poisonous and will bring the western culture down to nothing else to barbaric, mindless selfish fools who know about nothing else but sex, money and selfishness. What can you expect when no singer now promotes pure love for a women.
@MrGeokal Not to mention, music back then wasn't all Gold material. A LOT SUCKED. The thing is though, nobody sells or downloads the terrible songs from that time, so all we hear are the good ones. So we think that all the music back then was great. But i'll tell you, 9 out of 10 times, a new song wasn't that "perfect" as you are making it out to be.
So just be happy you live now so that you can enjoy all of the GOOD songs from past generations. You aren't "cursed"
my family followed him around arizona, in his early days. kingman, fladstaff my father just loved him and meet him several times. I grew up singing his wonderful music. real country
This was a big hit when I was in the army ('65-'68) and I always liked it. Marty Robbins was a great performer and did a lot of good stuff. I can't think of a single country singer today who is his equal.
he sones like EVILS

@MrGeokal not to bright, eh?
have you ever listened to modern music that isn't just pop, and rap? there are great bands out there that. Devotchka, The National, etc.
here, type Devotchka "something stupid."
that's a good song. If you only look at one or two genres to determine modern music, then you sir will miss out on some great ones of this generation.
