so great to hear him again - first time was '78 and last probably '81 - all the important things in my life at that time come back now through his voice. thanks for posting. oxox
cant believe how time flies. 30 freakin years ago. he oepened up wit htis at the palladium first time I saw him -- back in late 70s perhaps 1980. totally not what the crowd wqs expecting-- it went over great and knew right then his guy was cool. Actually had him in my home in Florida to do a private show in 2006. A very interesting guy and a tru gentleman.
Sometimes you're the dreamer and sometimes you're the dream. Cathy you were my dream and I was the dreamer but it isn't gonna be that way and both of our hearts are bleeding. I'll always miss you. Great video quality. Thanks gussie. this one hurts a lot so I guess it helps just enough.
OMG!!!!! This guy is amazing. This really is when music was excellent and not the manufactured Simon Cowell crap we have got goin on just now. Thank god for You Tube xxx
Hey Gussie, gee thanks for this one it takes me back, whatever happened to those dreams from our youth. I dug up a diamond tonight with this one thanks again.
Seems we share an admiration for one of the most beautiful screen goddesses ever - Gene Tierney. Been mesmerized by her beauty ever since watching "Leave Her to Heaven" on Film 4 last year.
@gussie5555 Yes Gene was a naturally and a hauntingly beautiful woman, largely underrated as actress who could play any role, a great talent, depression and mental illness had a negitive effect on Gene's career however, Gene was nominated for an Oscar for best actress in ''Leave Her To Heaven'', one of a number of movies Gene made, she was considered to be the Queen of film Noir.
... how did I miss this guy??? ....saw this on BBC4 a few weeks ago, absolutely brilliant!! .. never mind, better late than never eh? .. off to see him in Leeds next week
@stevie1610 thanks but I've heard the studio/album version and to my mind, it odesn't have none of the passion of this live version ... its this exact versin I'm after - but thanks anyway
Ah, pure magic and exquisite indeed. I remember seeing this clip on OGWT back in 1979 and bought Alive On Arrival on the strength of both this song and Going Down To Laurel, which he also performed on the same OGWT show. I left home (Teignmouth) for the first time and moved to London a week after buying the album, so I'm sure this song must have resonated with me at the time. I still rate Steve Forbert highly, as it all comes from the heart. The American In Me is also a really good album!
@baldybates Agreed this is a fantastic performance. I love the harmonica (reminds me of his bobness on Blonde on Blonde). Loved The American In Me too.
One of the best songs ever! "A truth I'd never heard" until the BBC show. Think this should be Nick Cleggs new theme tune - naive fools repeating the mistakes of previous generations again and again while the “everything burns”.
We all need music like this, and Bruce Springsteen, in times these.
Watched this edition of the OGWT in 1979, at the time i'd never heard of Steve Forbert. Annie Nightingale introduced Steve (if my memory serves me) as a cross between Springsteen, Dylan and James Taylor. A bit of an OTT description nevertheless he made an instant impression with this 20 year old, I bought the album Alive on Arrival the very next day, still up there as one of my favorite debut albums.
Saw this last night as well can't believe I've never heard it before absolutely, fucking sensational. This live version is far better than the original so much passion in this version.
Such a great talent. He's a a guy that hasn't got the fortune and fame that he deserves. I think he's OK with that though, thanks for posting this.
