one of the best railway clips on here ..thanks so much.. I didn't see any filthy or wrecked railway workers..they just didn't have moisturiser like bluebus does !!
You're joking aren't you? The rail workers look in their 70's and appear wrecks. Most of them are filthy and underfed. It was the era of austerity. Steam? You can keep it.
@stemajad Just a few years after Britain had been bombed and hundred thousands of civilians/troops killed (not to mention the rest of the world)...better than today ?
Want to go visiting Dunkirk or El Alamein in the 1940's, for a change ?
@061369317 I'm not looking for an argument here but I think stemajad is talking about the railways and how it was a golden era for them, they didnt ask for the war of cause it. Indeed it was a golden era for the railways.
@stemajad The whole world was a better place ! It was certainly a better age to live in. I've said it before and I'll probably say it many times again: the only thing that has improved in the last 60 years is medicine and electronics, everything else has gone to the dogs and become trash. You old chaps had a better life.
@TheWidowsSonTemplar Although electronics might be an improvement, I personally feel they are also part of the reason that life these days doesn't seem as pleasant as back then. I'm a driver myself, if you think that because of electronics everything I do is stored and can be found back simply by plugging in a laptop. They can even see when you switch your cab light on. This causes an unease, you can get caught for the smallest mistake, before, if nothing happened, a blind eye could be turned
@TheWidowsSonTemplar Im a young person of 40yrs of age, so I wasn't there when this film was made, but I must agree with you still. One thought I have is about medicine, its generally thought it is better now than then as you say, but weren't ppl healthier then, though smoked everywhere and ate greasy food!?
Really interesting to see how thing use to be done, i do the same job a the stuards now on the same train ( altho its not non-stop or named any more) and its 4 1/2 these days.
oh ! how I wish I was there
