Great great cover!! this is one of my favorite songs to play on drums. once you get the feel of the bass drum and ride pattern everything else just falls right into place. great job man!
This isn't the way Neil plays it. The ride pattern is eight notes on the ride with every upbeat on the bell. The bell accents (and not alternating ride and snare) are what give it that syncopated feel. Although Neil does like the alternating ride/snare (right) and high-hat (left) pattern (like for Subdivisions, for example), he doesn't use it on Animate--at least that I can tell. Check out the live concert footage elsewhere.
dude I dont know why you have to be such a fucking dick do understand that this is rush the hardest drums that you can play and he did a pretty fucking good job so give him some credit
Rush, by far, is my favourite band. But to say that they have "the hardest drums" is pushing it. The whole point of this song is to be minimalist. Listen to the album from start to finish. On this album, Neil's talent shines through not by what he does play, but by what he doesn't play. That's where his genius comes in, and is what separates him from people just wanting to play constant 16th or 32nd notes.
If Neil used KISS then it would have a straight 8th note beat which it does not. Good job man!!!! I always thought the song would be bada** with the ride/HH combination!
For most of the song, and the Counterparts album in general, he is using *relatively* simple, toned down, general 8th note beats. In a good way. His playing on this album is brilliant none-the-less.
Your wee but too busy for this song mate...your left hand seems to be playing some random thing on the hihats and your fill-ins are much longer than they should be.
Great Song Though!
Your so focused on playing loads of hihats with your left hand your forgetting the key drive to the song is the offbeat bell ride pattern. Its not being hit solidly.
It's ok, you should listen to the song more, listen to Niel's fills instead of making up your own cause i kinda ruins the song. Also at 4:19 Neil doesn't open the hit-hat at all he does 8 notes with accents 2 and 4. Well that's all i have to say lol. Peace
Freeker...do not say shit because i dont see any videos showing your talent therefore you prolly cant even touch this guy on the drums so shut the fuck up!
Love this song the bass on it is pretty awsome and amazing playing the beginning drums gets me every time. But the best part is at 2:45 + 2:46 that part is insane i wait for every time i listen to animtate.
Actually I didn't, but it's close enough. I definitely hear you re:flamers, typically those who sound off accordingly have nothing to backup their statements.
I think you should listen to the song a few more times. I'm not hatin' and I definitely see that you have talent, but if you're gonna get it that close, then you obviously want to emulate what the Peart did on that track. That bein' said, NAIL IT !!!! You're not too far off... Good Job
ok I see why that person was saying "you play to many cymbals" but it's ok. I love how you make the song you're own. I think you're one of the best I've seen in a while.
Great Work!

I'm a drummer myself, and yesterday I tried on playing animate myself.

In this song Neil used the KISS principle, and used it well... Your playing all over the place kinda ruined it.

How can you play with no reso heads on the toms?! They sound like cardboard boxes.
Now that that is out of the way, the playing wasn't too bad.
