  • @vagabondsteve I am almost definitely projecting.

  • @Refoops Thank you for your honesty. But your not the first person to say this. It's so odd to get this comment. Maybe people associate being in a relaxed state with being stoned.

  • @vagabondsteve Well first and foremost, in these videos I think you genuinely do look high. (I do believe you when you say you aren't, though!) I think it's a lot to do with the light and camera shade making your eyes look pink and shiny. I think a big part also is that when you speak of self improvement and wisdom, and people think you might be high - it's a sense of reaffirmation of their own habit. It reinforces their idea of cannabis being a beneficial aspect of their lives.

  • @Refoops Makes a little more sense. Thank you.

  • I trust the glaze in your eyes. ;)

  • @Refoops Nope to dope. Probably just tired.

  • @vagabondsteve Really? Because they seem noticeably pink and glazed in almost every video. Ah well I guess I'm just seeing things.

  • @Refoops Really. I don't do drugs. Are you projecting?

  • Is there a Part Two to this video?

  • @clmason33172 Yes, "Self-Discipline for Lazy People".

  • @vagabondsteve Thank you. :-)

  • doers need to think more and thinkers need to do more... basic conclusion

  • magic pill/spiritual silver bullet = sitting on your ass and having someone else bring your dreams to you.

    reality = work!!!!!

Stop watching TV/movies/music/you tube videos that you know is just mindless entertainment. You need to stop entertaining your fantasy. Learn to live with boredom and harvest the energy that will come from that. Sexual lust is another big problem that needs addressing.. I’ll let you know how I get on but for now any tips would be helpful. ha

  • @TheTechController I've found the 30/30 Pomodoro system very effective. You set a Pomodoro timer for 30 minutes of solid work. Afterwards you get rewarded with a 30 minute break to do whatever you want. Also setting 2Do lists, having accountability partners, & removing temptations from your home helps. Lastly check out a site called Stikk.

  • @vagabondsteve thanks for the reply steve.. means alot. i think the key to it all is learning to live with humility. I recently seen a guy I used to give shit to in school..turned out the guy is a champion and probably twice the man I'll ever be. made me feel how much of a shit bag I was at times to people. all been said I have my life to worry about but it helps to know that we are all the same. everyone has ideas for their life and want better. try the style of no styles :)

  • @TheTechController Thank you for your question & comment. It inspired the latest video: "Self-Discipline for Lazy People".

  • This part of youtube, the Good part, has lesser views!

  • @ikor117 The human mind gravitates towards immediate pleasure. It takes self-discipline to rise above instant gratification.

  • @vagabondsteve Agreed.

  • I like this video, I want to be more organised, lose weight, stop being lazy and procrastinating at times. I procrastinate due to a combination of anziety and laziness. I think, if I try to be more self disciplined I could succeed it would build my confidence up and be the confident, slim, well groomed woman.

  • @SuperDeeb123 Read my previous comments for suggestions.

  • Fantastic video. Thank you my friend.

  • i am so relieved to know there are people in this world that actually understand these things. that intelligence still exists in this era. "spiritual community" .. i will have to check that out

  • This is the second time I've ever commented on a video on YouTube. You are awesome! It's not what you say it's how you say it. It was the simplicity of your messages that awed me. Keep up the great work, there is much to gain from your videos for many many people!

  • @parmdhillon99 Thank you for taking the time to comment!

  • i actually thought you were going to say, our inability to say no to additional burdens, obligations...cheeseburgers, tacos, slices of pizza!

  • Very motivational and simple. I like the message of improving in small increments.

  • I love this video! Thanx for posting.

  • thanks for the video, keep good things up!

  • As simple as it sounds - you are absolutely right! Thanks for the video

  • @Sandman86ful Complexity sucks the motivation right out of us.

  • It's really nice to see profound videos..from just an average kinda person..regular common folks besides the Dali Lama or Tolle. Above average message.

  • @asana1973 I appreciate it.

  • @vagabondsteve oh u welcome sugar. you do impeccable work.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • Hey I thought that was great video, keep them up!

  • I find you very sexy in this video.

  • spanish subtitle please!!!!! so I can show it to my students in Chile!!! they really need this... Thanks!!

  • @katiuskatia Usted puede traducir el video y volver a publicar la misma.

  • Very practical advice that cuts through mountains of B.S. Thanks

  • man, i really, really needed to hear that. thank you.

  • dude you are so right!!! thank you!

  • very goood!

  • "with speed!..."

  • unfortunately f***ing around is much more pleasant, and it's very hard to end with it

  • @oscarsstuff See suggestions above. Sometimes we beat ourselves up for not accomplishing goals that we aren't motivated enough to get. If that's the cast then it's better to enjoy the short term pleasures without all the guilt. Or find something different that we're willing to make the sacrifice.

  • Thank you for this. We need more self discipline. Could you do a movie about how to discipline yoourself more. Or let's start a club of self discipline builders. Please help me because I'm not disciplined and it will be disaster to continue this. Thank you again.

  • @MrKliknijtutaj See above suggestions.

  • all too infrequently youtube may offer pure genius, this speaker is such an example.

  • @midcitygym Much appreciation!

  • Hi, Im going to start watching your videos regularly to keep myself motivated towards my aims of reducing my stuff (dont need it, clutters my life), increasing my discipline etc. Your advice in this video is good, keep it up!

  • Have you ever done the "accountability partner"? This is one of those pieces of advice that EVERYONE gives, but I find the notion strongly unappealing since I am kind of a loner and terrible at scheduling people into my life, and I am not sure that many people actually use this method since I almost never hear anyone talk about doing so. The only time I can think of was study buddies, and they were boyfriend and girlfriend, so not exactly what one can hope for.

  • @Aprinsa Good point as I'm a loner also. What works for me is a slightly modified version of this. Example: for the longest time I have wanted to learn Spanish but couldn't consistently muster up the self-discipline to study. I recently hired a tutor which has become my accountability partner. This has made a big difference in my studies. Other examples are group classes, work out partners, and activities which are scheduled.

  • @Aprinsa same here, never liked the concept of an "accountability partner" "accountability partner" I try to avoid people outside my immediate circle. Trying to expand on that.

  • That video was awsome man!! subscribed!

  • This is one of the best videos I have seen for a long time. I am a strng Christian and believe that faith has a crucial role in life BUT practical self discipline is essential.

  • i find difficulties on diferenciate beetween the discipline that make you grow , that make you a better person, that liberates you (we could call it "the good discipline") from the discipline of ambition, the wanting to be better than, the overcoming this not accepted-self ( "the ego discipline"). I can explain the diference in words, but in live is like they mix each other

  • @jruizdemena 'Ego' discipline focuses on destination while 'good' discipline focuses on the journey. It's future living vs living in the now. As you spend more time knowing thyself you will be able to easily distinguish between the two.

  • I must say there's something that drives me mad. I have a trouble figuring out how the message of this video co-exists with the message of the "Wanting Nothing" video.

  • @TheLittleRussian2 What specifically drives you mad? Perhaps you are seeing things in black and white. Balance or the Middle Path is the key.

  • @vagabondsteve You're right. I'm seeing things in black and white. I find it hard to understand that you can want less and discipline yourself more, since I associate discipline with wanting things - therefore I see strengthening self-discipline as surrenfering to desire. I probably see a problem where there isn't one.

The middle path, you say? I've always felt like the middle path is a cheat and that the extreme way is the only one worth walking. It's hard to stop thinking like this.

  • @TheLittleRussian2 Thank you for your honest response. The middle path is liberating. Living in the extreme is emotionally and physically exhausting. Not to mention the strain we cause those around us.

  • @TheLittleRussian2 as i see, wanting nothing means to be free of the many things we are used to: "good" relatinships, status, more money than needed...Self discipline is to set you free, self discipline to prepare yourself in order of not be trapped in attachment, desire, lazyness, blaming and to have the capacity to do what you really want. Self discipline is not for obtain more things or the so called success

  • I have an assignment due tomorrow that I haven't started...

    Thanks, I'm going now :)

  • Thanks for taking your time to help people, good video!

  • True THAT really an interesting issue how to overcome laziness? some comment

  • @zentidoc See my video: "Keeping New Year's Resolutions".

  • i have been waiting to hear this words for the past 10 years. Thank you Steve.

  • Thank you :D

  • i like this video. Nice analytical thoughts!

  • Thanks for the right video...just what I needed to be reminded about.

On the side, I wonder just how much of religion and politics is just a complicated, hyper-response to our need to discipline ourselves. The "father figure" is a metaphor for our inner state of self regulation.

  • @1zenAwhile I would say religion and politics is just a complicated way to control others.

  • Very true.

I assume that I need some sort of spiritual guidance when in reality, my issue is that I procrastinate and put things off.

Thank you for this video. :)

  • Great video! I've struggled with procrastination for a long time, but have really discovered that the saying "First we make our habits, then our habits make us" is so true. To slowly but surely creating good habits is now my way of overcoming procrastination.

Thanks for all the wonderful videos!

  • Thank you!

  • Hi Steve,

again I know a lot of the stuff you are talking about. Want to have a look on my desk with all the paperwork to do, piles of paper to be sorted, CD's to be cleared away... Have you also got an idea how I can fulfill my needs for tidyness, clarity and organization? Grettings, BBQ

  • Get rid of or organize 3 items per day. Do this consistently and you'll be amazed with the results.

  • iv never once watched one of your videos and wished i hadn"t.Thanks for the advice!

  • Great video Steve. I like the way you marry spirituality with the practicalities of everyday life.

  • Wow! You are on fire with all these great videos Steve! :-) Your wisdom, insight and passion is greatly appreciated.

  • I appreciate it greatly!

  • good job steve, just so you know honestly, sometimes in your videos you might get "off topic" even though i kno they are your videos, but i believe you sticked to the point in this one. ty again:)

  • I appreciate the constructive feedback.

  • So true, I've recently changed my life and you're saying exactly what I did. Good diet and excercise helps a lot.

  • exactly what I needed to hear.

  • this video spoke to me. I used to put off studying for tests. I made myself a promise this semester to do the best I can and study much more often than I used to.

  • wow, you are so smart, were di you learn all this?!?!?!!?!?

  • I'm passionate about spiritual growth. Just observing life and trying to apply a simple and common sense approach. Eckhart Tolle, The Matrix, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World, and lots of traveling also helped.

  • I get this alot with my prioritys. I end up thinking i need one thing but really the solution is so much more simple. Its really just your way of thinking that needs to be changed. I guess its because most people have been brought up looking outward for what they need.

  • Steve,

This video hit home for me. I'm starting a new career after getting out of a job I could not stand. But, for me to open this one text book that I need to study to pass the test, well, I keep saying "I'll work on that later". So, weeks go by with nothing gained at the end of the day. Talk about feeling bad about myself. Hard to change these habits.

  • Inch by inch everything's a cinch. Yard by yard everything's hard.

  • Steve, I honestly couldn't have watched this on a better day. I had an awful episode last night, sparked by my procrastination. Your vids are so encouraging and I thought you should know.

I once heard a quote to the effect of, "The less one has to do, the less time one finds to do it in." I believe I got this in a fortune cookie ;o). What a wonderful fortune it is!

  • Thank you Clara!

  • When something is painful to hear, and one wants to stop listening, you know it is hitting home, ugh...THANX!

  • Agreed. The most painful things to hear is often what we need the most.

  • Yes, spot on! I find that if I am keeping up my routine, my self-discipline, I feel much more energetic and in the now, but the minute I start to slack off from that - perhaps stay in bed far too long instead of getting up and getting my day going - then I feel less energetic, and I indeed procastinate more!

  • Your videos are always spot on, Steve. So clear that you are speaking from the depths of experience and not just spouting words. ALWAYS inspiring. Thank you!

  • I appreciate your encouraging words. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

  • procrastination :-D

  • balancing these higher ordered thinking skills with the primitive animal mind that is present in all of us. avoidance of unpleasant experience is more of a primitive function it would seem. procrastination is a form of avoidance. recognizing our behavior patterns helps us understand the level of thinking that we unconsciously prefer to be parked in. self-discipline skills lead to more executive functioning.

  • Very well said. "recognizing our behavior patterns helps us understand the level of thinking that we unconsciously prefer to be parked in."

LOVE IT! This is me. Time to change. Thank you.

  • Excellent Video. Ive just started training myself in self-discipline by logging my dreams and creating a Diary to keep track of my eating, sleeping patterns.

I also drew up a white board for planning my days, and soon Ill make a weekly schedule to keep on top of things. I was amazed how much I got done when I just DID it instead of thinking about doing it and then putting it off. Im also setting out a list of goals I want to accomplish by new years/Christmas time.

  • YES or not, of course.... ;P
