this is definitely a must have wonder you save so much gold, and jacks production up so much. I always have the hoover dam, the pyramids, and Adam smith trading co. to make my powerhouse civ.
Also according to wikipedia the Hoover Dam ranks 32th and 34th among the world's dams regarding hight and lenght respectively. Not really a world wonder. but a great achievement for it's time!
I'm convinced that they mixed this one and the Manhattan Project wonder's music up. Reverse them, play the opposite while watching each one in mute, and you'll see them fit rather nicely...especially when the soldiers walk into the wasteland aftermath of a nuclear test.
@MrWaeseL If only a small amount of "water"(urine) drives us to go to the bathroom at great haste, then we can only fathom how much power a lot of that water has!
@JonathanBloggs because when it was built many died because of the rush to get it finish and it was hard dirty long hours of digging then explosion then cleaning the rubble from the explosions and the sement and the etc.
But somehow it still stands today as one of the most rushed wonders in the world :D
any wonders that give you the effects of city improvements are well worth it because it saves on upkeep (unless you are mega rich democracy then it doesnt really matter.)
the only downfall is sometimes getting pyramids means your cities grow too fast early on and you might have probs with unhappiness (in high difficulty), but mostly those wonders are worth it like SETI, hoover, mikes chapel and bitchez suffrage.
Has too much growth been a real problem? I've just moved workers to less fertile areas. I suppose prime farmlands might also be necessary as prime trade routes.
"A remix version of "Labrea, Circle of Equals (Trial of Grievance)" from the soundtrack of the PC game Mechwarrior 2 by Gregory Alper & Jeehun Hwang. (specifically from Ghost Bears Legacy)"
I never found this one to be too useful. I mean, by the time you get it, you're research rates should be going through the roof and you get solar power.
After a quick Wikipedia look-up and listening to some game soundtracks, it appears that the music is a remix of the latter parts of the 9th track from MechWarrior 2, called "Arkham Bridge".

This music BLEW MY MIND when I was playing this at age 13 in 1998. Maybe because it reminded me of the X-Files. Still pretty sweet.

Certainly, a similar piece might exist in Mechwarrior 2 ;p

It decreases pollution significantly after industrial revolution. In my opinion, it is a really important wonder of world.
apaydin2004 2 years ago
you build the dam and you can't build solar plants. Therefore the pollution is higher then :) solar plants are bloody expensive though.
MichuNeo 2 years ago
You mean Hdyro Plant? You can build solar plants even if you built Hoover Dam.
apaydin2004 2 years ago 3
I thought you can't. Nevertheless this wonder is much cheaper than upkeeping even normal plants in every city...

Thats not odd, theres a dam in Goldeneye. For me this video reminds me of Canon - Johann Pachabel. I can't explain why though.
