  • That's some nice Irish homophobia. Make us all proud, you beacons of fair-mindedness.

  • @allaboutdmagic I think the guy doing the voice is in on the joke. Ireland also just passed a Civil Partnerships Bill allowing gays to marry. Still more to do though and the overall record is not great.

    David Norris for president!

  • Ireland is not Gay friendly hah:P

The amount of abuse you'd get

  • haha, my best friend works at that cinema XD

  • lol, geuss he didnt like this movie

  • I'm Irish (I'm guessing a lot of people commenting this are too) and I think Ireland is one of the most Gay friendly places in the world, I don't think many people really care that much here who you love. I'm from Dublin (cities, I know, are always more liberal than the country) and I found it offensive only because we had to see how ignorant small town America was, although it was hilarious I felt as if I had lost a bit of my humanity after seeing it. Equal rights for everybody!!!

  • @bistrosidecar Yeah Dublin has been very liberal to minorty groups of late.......

  • @kerrykop I don't know what you're referring to. I presume you're talking about isolated incidents of violence against minority groups(?). You can't really count them as representing anything, or popular opinion. You don't see gay hate groups in Ireland like you do in other countries, and all parties are pro some form of gay partnership. It made me proud that only 10 people turned out to protest civil partnership. In most other countries it would have been thousands. (I am gay btw).

  • @bistrosidecar I was Just pointing out the "country" isn't as ignorant as you think when it comes to minority groups and you might want to look a bit closer to home as in racial attacks that have happened in the last few months in Dublin. You made a point of saying "I'm from Dublin (cities, I know, are always more liberal than the country)" when there wasn't any need to anyway. I'm from Tralee and lived in Dublin for 4 years and there's no difference in attitude towards gay people.

  • @kerrykop That's wrong though. Look at any survey, cities are always more liberal places than the country. I wasn't making any assumptions about country people, but isolation tends to breed ignorance. Also, can you give a reference to the attacks? Attacks aren't systemic. They're the outcome of having millions of people living in close quarters to each other.

  • "I think you are assuming that everyone will get the fact that it is satire"

Who said that I was referring to satire? I was not. I was talking about depicting actual stereotypes/prejudices. I think sunlight is a good disinfectant; it should be exposed for its' stupidity.

"I am not sure if you get what i'm on about maybe you are too thick aswell so I will stop."

Well done. You've taken a decent exchange and bastardized it with an ad hom. *sigh*

  • "there is a fine line between satirising prejudice and actually protraying it."

I disagree with your negative connotation attached to the portrayal of prejudice. Showing it is a very important step in understanding it. There is a difference between explaining something to someone and actually witnessing/experiencing it. It makes for a more vivid realization of how needless and "human" it is of us.

  • boo ya bad pup ya...........

  • i tried this nut they changed it lol

  • only in ireland

  • Haha...only in Navan!

    Up the Royal! :D

  • down with this sort of thing

  • Come on Navan!

  • Yeah there is a good few knaks n foreigners, same as every other place, its not as bad as dublin

  • That is genius.

  • hahahhahahahaha

  • lmao

  • cool post, thanks. Bruno has some funny parts but it really is dissapointingly mean spirited. where Borat was likeable, Bruno is just too snarky and mean to like.

Still, much credit to SBC for creating fresh and bold comedy. The guy is flat out brilliant, and of course there will be some stumbles and flops when your an innovator.

  • LMAO!

  • Win

  • Bruno was funny

  • I was gonna see this movie but i've heard theres nasty scenes. I hate movies that use these gay tactics to get shock laughs. Its just plain gay. Fuck that.

  • Hahaha, Hilarious!

  • publicity stunt

  • Wow! A video about Navan, has 82,000 views!

  • Bullshit how did this make news

  • i could watch this movie over and over again and still love it and I'm not even gay

  • Keep telling yourself that

  • i'm a girl

  • Touché

  • actually, if you WERE gay, you probably would have hated it for being based on stereotypes.

  • I'm gay and I took it with a pinch of salt, I'm not highly offended by anything in the film because he is playing a fictional charater that is nothing like myself, so I just laugh with it.

  • i DO hate stereotyping no matter what, but it was a necessity for the film to make the charakter brüno obviously gay, his opponents had to know that. It wouldnt make sense otherwise. and the film made A LOT of sense.

  • haha, bruno was a great movie

  • Comment removed

  • oi say!

  • That would be an ecumenical matter

  • Why cant us irish say wednesday?

  • They are absolutely right. This is an awful film. Completely tasteless and indecent. Sascha Baron Cohen should give the money back which he got to make this.

  • lmao

  • I only youtubed this because of the BBC article.

  • navan cinema is not doing well , this is a publicity stunt

  • Yes im sure it is a publicity stunt, oh look what the recorded message says when you ring up, thats so funny that im going to go to the cinema there instead of the one right beside me!

  • hahahaha

  • Haha the guy from the cinema was on the radio yesterday and was like

"Hey! I could be the next susan boyle!"

  • Hahaha! Sin an greannmhar ar fad! Ach ba bhrea liom Brüno, caithfídh mé a rá, an cliostáil agus "subversive" i mo thuaraim féin.

    GRMA!

  • lmfao this is great.

  • This is one of the funniest things I've ever heard! "It *is* that bad" and "1 or 2 people liked it"

    Are all Irish this funny?

  • YES! Try listening to Irish radio - it's toe curling!

  • Yes. All of them. '_'

  • LOL I wish someone would post the new message here - I can't afford to ring from Australia to hear that! ;-)

And clearly Father Ted was based on real Ireland..... or at least parts of it! LOL

  • I recently finished reading the Book of Prejudices and this film offended every single prejudice in it. It took me hours to console them.

  • LOL very funny ... I happened to enjoy Bruno very much but then I'm an Irish Canadian so I've got the no prejudice vein ;-)

  • your irish if you were born here, otherwise your canadian, get over it

  • LOL, this is hilarious! "One or two people did like it though."

  • this movie is kick ass, i couldnt stop lmao

  • i cant wait to download this movie!!!!!!

  • "It will offend every prejudice in the book."

Well what's so bad about offending prejudices? I thought it was always important to break stereotypes and prejudices against things seeing how they connote ignorance and overreaction.

  • Bruno was FUCKING Awesome,

Ps, All the CLOSE MINDED PEOPLE, - eg religious, homophobes, etc ETC = DONT FUCKING COMPLAIN,

JUST DONT GO TO WATCH IT.

  • totally agreement

  • The disclaimer has nothing to do with telling gay haters not to go. Other groups of people are mocked throughout the film.

  • haha brilliant, only in ireland would you come across such a laughably elaborate voicemail. very funny

  • pull the stick out of yer arse

  • Bruno was a disapointment... It's not about the gay theme or the shoking images (xD) but it's just not funny enough...
